News Elite: Dangerous Steam Keys

Is there a way to unlink your elite account with your now hijacked steam account?

Note: they cant play my elite because of extra sign in but I no longer trust steam to look after my games (three weeks since I submitted a support form to get the account back and no response yet)

Yes.
Log in to your account on Frontier store,
on the left menu click on Third-party accounts,
then click on UNLINK FROM STEAM.
Thats the info I was after, should have read three posts up DOH!

Steam wants to download all of Elite again, but it's already on my computer.

I have just completed this step from the OP:
"You can redeem your code by selecting 'Games > Activate a Product On Steam' in the Steam UI."
I want Steam to use my existing Elite installation. How do I do that?

Do we have any idea of what percentage (or actual number) of players with the original FDEV version actually used the key to transition to Steam?

Valve gets a cut of anything sold on the Steam Store. By purchasing E.D. content through Steam, some of the purchase value will go to Valve.
This account link to Steam is more of a CONVENIENCE for players who like to keep all of their gaming centralized on one site.
I've made purchases from the F.D. Store and have never had a problem with content showing up in my Steam version of E.D, so I won't be linking my Steam account.

What do you do when you get the message

"You have not purchased any games eligible for partner keys."

? I bought the lifetime pass last week. Is that eligible?
I finally got it working. Went to the Frontier site just yesterday and now there was a partner key to use with steam. Hope it works for you!

I linked mine without realizing this part but I haven't generated a key. I think that I'll just unlink it. Gabe makes enough money as it is :)

By generating a Steam key all future purchases made with your Frontier account will also be associated with your Steam account. This won't affect how much you pay for the game or for paint jobs, but sticking with the EliteDangerous.com store remains the best way to support ongoing development with 100 percent of your money on future purchases. We especially appreciate it when you buy direct from us, but we're happy for you to play how and where you like. Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

I did generate a Steam key and activated it in Steam. I have not installed nor played the game through Steam, nor do I intend to.
If I un-link my account from Steam (as shown in image below) will they still get a cut of your profit from my purchases?

Im a bit confused here.....

I purchased ED via Steam a couple of months ago, thus it is in and only in my steam account. However i have just pre-ordered the standard version of Horizons via the Frontier web site. I have not received a steam key and am now not sure how i will receive this product when released. Ideally i would like it added to my steam account to keep all in the one place.

Any help. thanks

From Ed Lewis's post earlier in the thread:

This should be associated with your Steam account automatically. But as it has not been released yet, there will be nothing to see in Steam yet.

Hope that helps.

Steam only gets a cut of profits if and only if you actually purchased the game within Steam itself. This includes any DLC or Expansions that you buy directly in Steam.

When Steam does or does not get a cut:

If you link an outside game bought on another service (like FD): No.
If you buy a steam key from some other store and claim the key inside steam to install/play: No.
If you buy a game using steams checkout process: Yes.

It gets a little more involved on which publisher gets royalties based on initial play time and platform... but that does not apply here, as even if you bought the game ON steam, FD will get royalties if you play it on mac or pc for any length of time.

Hi there... I think I just made a mistake ?

I've gone to my frontier account and was looking for my steam key, to tell a friend where to find his one. But i've gone to "third party account" and Unlinked my key.. ( I though it was just a hide/unhide button ). Should I be worried ? If it's important, how can I relink my steam version with my frontier account ?

Thanks in advance :)

Awkward...

I originally linked by ED account to Steam account used by my two sons.

I have now linked by ED account to my own Steam account but as the Steam Key generated has already been registered with Steam is there a way to generate a new key and remove / delete the old one?

Like it

I'm still waiting for Steam to have the Horizons version. All I see is the standard ED.

Steam has the advantage of allowing you to be notified of when your friends are on line. I like that. :) Not only that but if there is any Patch or DLC you'll be notified or you can option to have the load applied to your game automatically. Nice!

Link it with steam, but buy it from Frontier. Gabe doesn't need the royalties ;)

Steam is nice.. but... every time I start up a Steam game it has to download a new or addition to the Steam software.
Question:.. Does Frontier have a system of notifying you of new Patches or upgrades to your current version of the game? Steam gives you the choice of downloading and installing automatically or notifications of a needed download. Nice.

Steam often releases stability and security updates, those are good and you should install them whenever they show up. I don't get your question tho. Game launcher always inform of new update.

The frontier ED launcher self-updates to the latest no matter what. Steam just tries to pre-empt that by doing its own updating download.

Either way, you end up with the proper and most up-to-date Elite: Dangerous game, so its all fine.

So I bought ED on sale from steam and used that steam key. Then I bought xpac which also had a steam key. I linked the 2, but no black skins. Then I saw that my frontier account has a steam key, which I can't link to steam since it already has a key. So, hopefully Steam will refund me, I can then use the Frontier key in steam, and my skins will show up? I tried restarting a few time and linking and un-linkinking to no avail. So either the skins don't come out till Horizons, or i'm doing the right process. I'm dl'ing a separate launcher, which should let me boot up the version I have, rather than the steam version.
