I'm presently running with a CH Fighterstick and Throttle. Now considering the pedals. The obvious choice is the matching CH pedals.
Should I be looking at something else, or just go with the obvious?

I have both the CH pedals and the Saitek Pro Flight pedals. I have had problems with a set of Saitek's that required opening occasionally when one of the linkages inside flips out of a slot. It requires a multitude of screws to be removed for a 5 min fix then replaced again. I personally think the CH pedals are better built. But one comment I have heard about the CH pedals is that the pedals are situated too close together for some people and has earned the nickname 'nutcrackers'. I have the Saiteks on a permanent setup and bought the CH ones for using in an impromptu laptop setup which I find them ideal for. If I had to give a set up it would be the Saitek's.

I believe the CH pedals are well-respected, and it would seem a shame to not have the full CH Control Manager experience for calibration, maps, etc., in view of you already having the other two. I have the three CH devices and the pedals haven't given me or my nuts any problems.

I got that stick from ebay (sealed in original box) very cheaply; about $30USD and it's been working perfectly.

I have never understood why MS did not capitalize on this superb piece of hardware (in almost everyone's opinion). I have the Sidewinder MK 1 on my retro box and use the FF2 USB for Elite (dual sticks). No joystick has ever fit my hand like the Sidewinder.

Unfortunately there was a dearth of mainstream flight games for a period that probably meant there wasn't a lot of profit in maintaining the brand. That likely contributed to the demise. Now we've got all kinds of great flight stuff from everything to the arcade gamer to hardcore simmer.

Using Hotas & X-Box controller for Ship and SRV

I would like to be able to be able to use Hotas for Ship and Hand Controller for SRV. Is it possible to have both plugged in to PC and for commands from both devices to be recognised without having to go into Options and change the key bindings every time?

Although I haven't tried it myself yet, I believe it is possible to have a separate controller device for the SRV. There are separate bindings for the SRV for this purpose.

I believe that you can use say the same joystick for both the SRV and ship.
For all that, tried it, and hated it. I use my HOTAS for ship flight and a mouse and keyboard for the SRV. My preference would be a steering wheel and mouse for control of the SRV, but I have no wheel to hand and won't be buying one just to drive an SRV.

i use the foot rudder controller for steering the SRV and the hotas joystick for turret control. I takes a little time getting used to driving with your feet!

Sorry if this is not the correct thread.
I am new to ED (got it a week before horizons was released, if I had only known.)
I have been playing with mouse and keyboard and want to put my CH Products HOTAS system to use, however I can't figure out how to map keybinds for things in the galaxy and system maps. I would like to be able to route to a system or planet without the need to use the keyboard or mouse.
Will someone point me to the setting needed in ED, thank you.
Maybe I am just daft (given my username).
Teteched.

I am debating getting a HOTAS controller, am currently using mouse and keyboard, I am also considering an xbox or ps3 controller, Any suggestions? please PM me.

HOTAS are great but can be pricy. I use a CH Fighterstick and Pro Throttle. I wouldn't change them for anything but they aren't really starting gear. May be worth getting something more basic at first to see how you like it. Lots of choices out there.

Get a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X and use Joystick Curves to calibrate roll, pitch, yaw and throttle for the ship, SRV and the turret. You will never look back. For the cost, yes it's plastic but the quality and reliability makes it a no-brainer for value for money all in my opinion. If my memory serves me I paid approx. £40.

You might want to check with Frontier customer service to see if you could get it since you did purchase so close to its release.

In the Controls bindings, there are specific binds for the galaxy map. Usually, the controls that allow you to move on the map should be the same that you use to move your ship but you might want to check. Options -> Controls, then down to the Galaxy Map section.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need ED to buy Horizons?

No you don't.

Horizons 'comes' with ED - otherwise you could not land on different planets in Horizons.

Thank you for the clarification, Ian. Correct me if I'm wrong but new buyers are getting Horizons (and ED of course) at the moment. That was why I suggested to the original poster to check with customer service. Usually, when a software is upgraded, buyers that have recently bought the software before the new release will get the new release for free.

Now I'm confused. Why is Horizons described an expansion to ED?

If you get ED with Horizons, I wish I hadn't paid for ED in the first place. Getting a £10 discount and the possibility of buying a Cobra Mk IV doesn't seem like good value for money to me.

Thank you for your answer (and suggestions), however I did look in in /controls/ Galaxy Map and while I can see how to pitch, yaw, zoom ect, I don't see any keybinds to select a system or route to a system. Maybe I am just missing them but I don't see the settings.

The only way to "select" a system in the maps is by moving the round cursor in the middle of the map over the celestial body you want to select. If you position it right over it, you can then use the joystick to plot a route to it. There is no key that will let you select a body, you need to move the cursor over the said body to do so. The other thing you can do is type its name in the search panel of the galaxy map. This will select it and you can then plot a route to it using your joystick (or any other controller that is correctly setup).

Thank you for your answer, unfavorable as it seems to be to the cause of using only a HOTAS setup. I can't switch between two sets of devices (HOTAS or Keyboard/mouse) due to limited mobility in my shoulders. I guess I will have to stick with keyboard/mouse for now.
Thanks again.
