The Star Citizen Thread v5

Hmm, a video showcasing the talent of a couple of guys messing around with some Star Citizen assets and actually making what they had look BETTER than what CiG are able to do, without a single cent from backers.

Remind me, *how* does showing this video in anyway make CiG look GOOD?

*Edit* Oh and just so you know, please can you confirm that CiG have *definitely* told backers, the gaming press and anybody else, that planetary landings will be coming out this year? :)

Haha, oh my!
And they said the the SC community are the "Toxic" ones [rolleyes]

Hehe if you think that video is good ... well you will like what August will bring. That's all CIG assets, from graphics to animations (yay for mocap).
All the guys did by themselves was write the script, pretty cool actually, those INN guys got some writing skills. And the cryengine job was the work of Fiendishfeather, a backer who twinkles with Cryengine for a while now.

About planetary landing it is know that is the next big push to add jointly with the large scale solar system with procedural planets.
They talked about it in the monthly report as in other recent events. Going from space, to atmosphere, and eventually landing on the ground.
Planets with water, trees, Mountains, Caves etc. I firmly believe it will be showcased @ Gamescom Show and some months later released to backers.
Similar to how they showcased the Universe Multicrew Demo 2.0 in september 2015 and released to backers in December.

I want a non-hacked version of this:

watch their bums as they walk away from you and tell me you've ever seen a human walk like that who's not got serious lower back problems. it's still nothing to shout about, the rest i've seen in games for years - I'm not trying to be nasty I just genuinely cannot for the life of me see why you'd be so excited about it?

The video? It's just a large asset. I've seen many large levels. And I have zero trust that's a genuine playable state video and not a pre recorded path rendered slowly so it worked. :(

Why would you think I'm excited about it? I'm just sharing some nice work from backers. Things don't have to be a constant fight you know, the other user started prerogatives of "why would you even post that it's making cig look bad" lol. Dude it's machinima about the game of this thread, watch or don't watch, this is not a mission lol. Stop being so defensive/negative about everything Star Citizen, it's just a game anyway. Sleep time folks, cya tomorow.

I don't know about customer discrimination, but it has been suggested elsewhere that the practice of taking a customer's details, stalking him on unrelated sites, linking together his usernames and retaining that information within their own records could be a severe breach of the United Kingdom's Data Protection Act. This is relevant because, moral abhorrance aside, CIG's customer support is based in the UK.

Well I am sure that this must be prohibited either way, tagging their paying customers and tracking their identity on the internet?Who are these ppl. and what are they doing actually cause they ain't building a game?I mean after all of this Circus some ppl. must be blind to not see that something is very wrong at CIG...

"I firmly believe it will be showcased @ Gamescom Show and some months later released to backers." So that's a big fat "no" then, you haven't the foggiest idea when and if they will have planetary landing and are just making wild guesses.... Unless of course you happen to be an employee of CiG and have access to insider information that you are trying to "tease" people with here? Though if that was the case, wouldn't you be showcasing videos that aren't months old? Or for that matter, if this was such a big reveal, why bail at the very last second on an appearance at E3, where CiG, if they had something substantial to show, could have whipped up a showreel that could be displayed at the event instead, whilst they got on with knuckling down and working on SQ42 and such....

you're clearly excited about it fella - there's nothing wrong with that - i'm just curious how you can't see any fault in these things when it's often staring you in the face only 4mins apart on the same video?

The lack of e3 action really set alarm bells ringing.

All they needed was someone playing the first hour of Sq42. That's it. Surely that's ready by now? Just a big screen and one hour of gameplay and all the worries could have been eased, all the naysayers silenced and I'd not be asking these questions - heck just put it on youtube but i look and... and.... no it's just people chatting :/

One more video that "prove" how "good" are actual physics in SC 2.4...pay attention when 2 ships at 1:23 collide....

That full newtonian modelling is amazing. Getting the mass distribution across the objects so right really adds to the feeling that every thruster and bulkhead is planned and they know just how these things fly and move.

This.

I don't get how the activity of playing a game is enhanced in any way by watching a mini-movie chopped up into tiny yet inescapable portions regardless of who is in it.

If I want to watch a movie I don't sit down in front of my PC to fire up a firkin PC game!

It can be done extremely well; and when wrapped around a great game with a great story populated by believable characters you actually care about because they are well written, then it can be a very satisfying experience. For example, The Last of Us is one of the finest games to come out in the last 10 years for just those very reasons (seriously, play it if you haven't already).

Sadly the chance of CRoberts and chums ever being able to produce something as groundbreaking as that, judging by both past works and currently delivered/leaked material, are so close to zero as to not be worth mentioning...

Mu77ley my friend - you are being particularly uncharitable here.

We can clearly see a groundbreaking work that puts absolutely everything else to shame. They have delivered the most physically realistic simulation know to persons. There is absolutely nothing else that comes close, and they have 5 years of development and the $$$$ to prove it.

It's not their fault that the unwashed masses cannot appreciate real physics, a script written by gods, or gameplay so beyond good it's perceived as bad.

Maybe because this isn't a "flying a spaceship game", more a "first person universe game", with ship's and other stuff.
Besides, yes it looks boring and IT is boring to manually change loadouts.

"Weapon here, missile over there, engine ?? Oh buger it's on the other side..." It's the base foundation of the system, I think the direction they are going is that you will be able to do it automatically (Space-Shop$$) or by yourself one by one or all at the same time with the holotable in a 2D/3D UI.

Not sure how having to walk around a ship to change missiles is the basic foundation. Being able to change them is the basic foundation. Doing this is worryingly like someone's bad idea of super fun immersion.

It's something that at first glance seems a good idea, but for the player doing it more than once would be a PITA. Like the helmet to access menu's thing it won't last because it's rule of cool not fun and convenient.

What's with the sounds?
They're incredibly bad and out of place.

Sound design in SC is hit and miss. There's a few very cool ones but a lot of pretty drab stuff.
As for that video, gotta love the epic missile impact explosion at 1:05. The sound even does the inception-horn. Too bad there's no visual effect at all. And that ship explosion at 2:14... that's pretty sad. Remember when they showed the AWESOME ship destruction sequence?

There's a world of a difference between that, and what's in 2.4
