The Star Citizen Thread v5

The real money will come in when they start making the movies, and selling off performances as extras :D

I can see a brilliant movie coming out of this saga: basically Dr Frankenstein meets Fitzcarraldo meets Titanic meets The Towering Inferno meets Downfall in the greatest disaster movie of all time. Mad genius cobbles together a monster game out of grave-robbed code, zaps it with magic German lightning, and then watches as it drifts hopelessly out of control, crashes into an iceberg and catches fire, leaving Roberts (played by Renée Zellweger in drag under an assumed name, since no male Hollywood actor wishes to be associated with the part) tearing his hair out and ranting about how he has been betrayed and that if only he'd been given another $200 million he could have conquered the world...

But much more Importand.
SC will be an Treasure Chest of Technology and Development. Which is used in the Game.
Do you know just how much new stuff they are doing and testing there ;)

Do you?
What's this new stuff that people will want to buy and make their game with?
What game will they make?
Why would they make it if Star Citizen will have everything already?

That could work!

Who gets to play the baddie though?

Derek Smart? Sadly Terry-Thomas is no longer with us. Maybe we can persuade Renée Zellweger to take that role too - Roberts and Smart never appear in the same scene together, and with a bit of cosmetic wizardry the audience will never notice.

Nooo - I meant the baddie! ;)

Michael Winterbottom can direct, but I think CR should be played by a thumb, as suggested by an astute youtube comment on that legendary "Chris Roberts plays Star Citizen" video.

NUJ4

THUMB: "It’s gratifying to see Star Citizen mentioned across the gaming and mainstream media; how its broken records, how it shows that people still believe in PC games, how they want to play a space sim, how it is another nail in the coffin of the traditional publisher model."

Uncanny. Plus you'd be able to intercut it with archival Ten for the Chairman footage and it would blend together seamlessly.

Star Citizen: Its Biggest Money will come from selling the Rights, Knowledge and Developments

blah blah blah changed so much it's ACTUALLY called StarEngine blahblah blah. Which is of course, nonsense. it's CryEngine and always will be no matter how many changes they make because they picked a terrible engine for the needs of the project.

Despite being the most visioniest of visionaries, CR couldn't foresee the fact that making their own purpose-built engine when the money started rolling in was the only way to go. It's not like they didn't ALREADY redo all the work up to that point several times anyway!

I don't hate CR. I have a low opinion of his abilities: he's a buffoon and a blunderer who has no business running a studio and I totally understand why one of the terms of the Microsoft buyout of Digital Anvil was that he waddle off to movieland and go mess things up there instead of continuing to be the main problem with Freelancer's development.

But hate? Not really the right word. Kinda annoyed I can't get a refund but reading this thread is usually very amusing. There are hardly any lulls in the drama and a continuous procession of very strange personalities popping up to denounce all of us as if were a unified bloc!

The biggest money will come from the rights of the book cataloguing all the missteps, poor decisions, and disasters in the making of this computer game.

Yeah, its just not possible that we have all reached the same conclusion based on the evidence presented...

They can call is StarEngine if they like, but they can't sell rights to CryEngine code.

I am in no way versed in any of the legalities etc but as a layman just considering the scenario.
If CIG achieves all its goals with its modified Cryengine, and there was a market for it, it would surely make sense for Crytech to consider it if they got a piece of the pie?

Google up with how much money Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg started.

Star Citizen might be a lemonade stand now.
And Facebook once was a College Project :)

But what do you think SC will be worth in 3-5 years ;)

Come on! you really had to pull that old cliche out? you do know who is in their family right? they were not just some young fellows who came up with an idea.

OMG, sometimes people really need to dig just a bit deeper than what they are spoon fed with.

I am trying to set up a new Lave Radio episode where we talk about Star Citizen. Have to thank Allen Stroud for helping out. We can take some topics discussed here to the radio show. Will let you guys know when we get a green light.

Hi Nowak.

Nice to see you post again in here.

Hope you'll take up your post again in here posting news items on this. Always found you delivered a balanced view. Also hope your Lave radio piece goes well...you might need to make it episodic ;)

That right there is how they got to where they're now with funds. By selling dreams, concepts and baiting people. And you're promoting it, which will make you an accessary (google that word) if things go awry.

Why so negative? They are delivering. Slowly, but steadily.

Do you think they'd keep delivering if funds suddenly stopped flowing in ?
Do you think their effectiveness is good? The funds they got vs. delivered so far ratio is good ?

This is definitely troll lol, nobody is that crazy.

Star Citizen is going to have a lot of disillusioned players when it releases no doubt, but they're not complete idiots. You'll be hard pressed to convince me you think Star Citizen has a similar impetus compared to Facebook or Microsoft.

So Bluedrake42 (whom I didn't subscribe to partly because of his overly non-critical thinking about various games before) had his Aurora stolen from his account...

Then after making such a video, he received death threats against him and his family.

My thoughts: Yes he could've set up 2-factor authentication. No, 2-factor is no silver bullet. And I do believe he has a point: Being able to resell ships and essentially having this kind of grey market creates an evironment that attracts criminals, whales, and people who have no qualms issuing death threats against anyone who is a threat to their "business interests". This is by no means a Star Citizen exclusive problem.

But it speaks volumes when previously silent accounts suddenly pipe up and post super positive stuff and wildly optimistic projections about SC, trying to push the criticism off the last few pages. That would be fine if it was new information, but usually it's just the same proven-false stuff (be it release dates, SC development time, star marine being already in the game or not, the ever-rewritten history of PG in SC, etc.)

There's money in this, and there's a mafia protecting their monetary interests. This is not a game to them, it's profit.
