Dad Lando is the best. This guy kind of sums up a good part of the community imho.

Moving a company like that to lose employees makes no sense as they would have to offer the same redundancy anyway in the UK. You may as well just say you guys are sacked it is no different legally. They will just be moving to cut costs long term - at least that is the theory...

That's assuming they're full employees, and not long-term contractors. The latter are pretty disposable...

You mean lie about playing 4-6 hours a day and don't even know the name of the ship they fly?

"The one thing I learned about Star Citizen is there are no limitations"
"Star Citizen does not disappoint you"

Everything he says sounds like fake emotional marketing talk.

What will be the believer's take on this? Haven't we been told so often, that building up CIG took oh-so much time and the five years of production by Roberts account are therefore to be taken a bit more lightly? Hey, that had to build up 3 (?) studios first! Took them so long and now they're building a new one or downright replacing an existing one? What would a capable doublethinker make of this?

I think we all know where that will go.

Clearly you can't count development as even started yet until Brno comes fully online!

4 to 6 hours a day seems a lot to play on an incomplete game. The only reference I have is the Elite beta. When it started all we had were the tutorial missions. I understand about that "make your own entertainment" stuff. What we did was set up a competition to see who could destroy all the barrels in the quickest time, and the reason I kept at it was to hone my flying skills and to determine the best control setup for me. I was not playing for 4 hours a day.

I don't have the Star Citizen Alpha. I'm waiting for the full game to come before I buy it, but this is really intriguing. Is there that amount of gameplay in there? How much do the people here play the alpha?

Yeah, zoo tycoon next from FD is no brainer. Tycoon/management sims/grand strategies seems to be getting second chance - majorly from European studios, although Firaxis is not staying behind itself. And despite Zoo Tycoon limitations and some mixed reviews, animals looked gorgeous on XBO. They also solid number of copies for it.

Back to topic - it will be interesting how CIG will look in few months time. It seems big employee shake up is unavoidable and coming in fast. It certainly will push delivery dates for any deliverable further down the line.

No there isn't.
There's a few generic missions.
Then you can fly around, walk around and attempt to shoot other people or other ships.
The flight model is bad (imo) and the shooting mechanics are okish but don't really feel very responsive like in proper FPS games.
Add a few more hours of gameplay if you're playing with friends and pretend the gameplay mechanics are fun and you're having fun.
and that's about it.

I doubt CIG's own QA testers play 4-6 hours a day.

And the worst part is, this might even be true. Because so far, i see much effort in producing demos and running crowdfunding campaigns, but little effort in getting a base game up and running (no, current PU is far, far away from being a base, it's a prototype for some systems at best).

I think SC Alphas at this point serve for those people who just want to hang out with their buddies in a single virtual space. Those people don't look forward to SC as MMO but more like open MP sandbox they can do stuff and act stupid in space with heir friends. Those people are most likely least disappointed about state of the things.

So it's not like you can't have fun...just really depends what you are looking for. As an overall game though - there's very little.

They seem to be quite big on standing around saluting though - so there is that.

Reminds me of second live.

Reminds me of second live.
Some people during big discussion of SC feature creep kinda pointed out that many of these players have been active Second Life supporters too. It is really interesting discussion - not for this thead perhaps, and not with brandings or names attached - but something I would be keen to discuss.

Reminds me of second live.

Anything second life completely flew over my head, but from what I know of it, are we surprised? The big point of all their theory crafting hype space ship videos in 2014/2015 was how ultra detailed everything is modeled. Down to the literal (!) kitchen sink. That doesn't have any game mechanic relevance whatsoever, but it sure made the impression, that it was going to be a space poeple life simulation. That's also the angle where all the theory crafting for ships is coming from. "This ship as a bunk bed, so it can be used to bla, bla, bla...".

If second life spoke to certain people and they're not totally averse to a graphically impressive speace version of it, Star Citizen must be their thing. Even the name implies that players are living in a virtual space world.

Frankly, I wouldn't have minded myself as it sounded awesome, if only they were able to produce anything. When modelling ships to the kitchen sink rather than getting grey boxes to fly in a multiplayer environment are the priorities though, there's small wonder this project is going to the dogs.
