There was a tweet the other day with a pic of David Braben playing elite in a dk2 at FD.

Oculus have also confirmed that they've sent out around 100 or so DK2s to various developers.

Lucky beggars. :D

Yes
It was a DK2 that an Oculus Rep dropped by with to show it off. This was probably when they added DK2 support to the game.
The Rep took the DK2 with him when he left.
The DK2 in that picture did not stay at FD.
This was confirmed by the Rep in question.

Here's another point that leads me to believe that FD do not have an DK2 or if they do then they can't say that they do.
Why did they not use it at E3?
They used the HD prototype rather than a DK2.
That's because they do have a HD prototype but do not have a DK2.

Or they do, and have it in the studio working on it for, I don't know..their pledge to fully support it in July? :D

When that picture appeared some people (not me) kicked off a little because why should some devs get one and others have to wait till July. Oculus confirmed that the DK2 in the picture did not stay at FD. If I could be bothered scrolling through a ton of Reddit threads to find it I would.

A picture of DB with a DK2 and DB saying E: D supports DK2 does not mean they have one. People are jumping to conclusions.
They could indeed have one as Oculus have said they have seeded DK2s with certain devs but if that's the case why didn't they have it at E3? If you want to show off the game and the potential of DK2 with the game (as it is better than the HD prototype used) then you'd use it if you had it. A caveat could be that there is an NDA about having one as it might get people's knickers in a twist.

I'm not ***** if they do have one or not, all I'm saying is that the evidence people are pointing to them having one does not prove they have one once you know the full story (DK2 in pic with DB did not stay at FD)

What I am trying to tell you is that

1. We have seen DB with a DK2 some days before E3.
2. FD have stated that they will support it fully in July.
3. It is confirmed that Oculus have given developers DK2s to work for the release.
4. If FD have a DK2, and if the FD DK2 was in E3 (highly unlikely as FD would use it for their game development, not for press coverage) then Oculus would have blocked any footage or mention. We already know they partially did that with the HD sets FD have.

So no, what you are saying does not make sense man..

What I am trying to tell you is that

1. We have seen DB with a DK2 some days before E3. - Confirmed not to have stayed at FD
2. FD have stated that they will support it fully in July. - Support added while DK2 was on site
3. It is confirmed that Oculus have given developers DK2s to work for the release.- Agreed but that does not prove FD have in fact have one
4. If FD have a DK2, and if the FD DK2 was in E3 (highly unlikely as FD would use it for their game development, not for press coverage) then Oculus would have blocked any footage or mention. We already know they partially did that with the HD sets FD have. - Again does not prove anything either way

So no, what you are saying does not make sense man..

Comments above.

I prefer to be agnostic on the issue. Unless a FD member can confirm it then we don't know.
I can say the DK2 in the picture did not stay at FD.
I can say that the support for DK2 was added while the unit was onsite (else DB wouldn't have been using it in the picture).
The reason I'm not saying they definitely do not have one is that Oculus have given some developers a DK2 but aren't telling who. FD haven't said they have one.

Anything else is conjecture.

p.s. I wish a Dev would come on and say either "We don't have a DK2" or "We can't say if we have one or not" which wouldn't break the NDA but would confirm they have one (not that I really care either way!!).

p.p.s I'm not arguing about it any further as it's like arguing if God exists or not.

It always amazes me why in all the photos do they have a screen in front of them. Is it just a box with a hole cut in it strapped to your head.

There is a very simple reason for that - No operating system supports the Rift and as result you need some way of navigating to and from the game.

Here's a screenshot of my desktop @ 1920x1080 duplicated with my Oculus Rift Devkit 1.0.
In the Rift, I can only see what is on the inside of the yellow circles and just make out the circle outlines.
(Disclaimer; May vary slightly depending on each individual persons settings and how tightly they wear their Rift)

*IF* the devs have a DK2 (personally I reckon it's reasonably likely), then I would imagine that there's a strict NDA in place too.

Doesn't really matter though, DK2s are already in production (boxed versions glimpsed at E3), and they're going to ship tens of thousands of them within a matter of weeks anyway.

Would have liked to have got some kind of CV1 release estimate from Oculus at E3. Maybe after DK2 orders have been mostly fulfilled would make more sense?

So far, E: D is the only game I've been able to comfortably play in the rift DK1 without simulator sickness for up to an hour in combat, which is an impressive feat. Can't wait till the DK2.

There are some bugs however, which I will be ticketing later on, regarding shadows.

Can't click apply when in Oculus Rift Mode

When this the Oculus is enabled my mouse is confined to a small square in the center of the screen so I can't move it down far enough to click apply.

Has anyone experienced this or knows how to fix it?

Oculus Rift .... Extend or clone for ED?

Greeting commanders

Somebody suggested to me the other day that I use the extend function instead of clone to get a better performance, but have as yet been unable to figure out how to make this work..?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You set this up within the monitor settings in Windows.

Check out this link, explains things well. Clone is good for people watching but adds latency apparently.

May I raise an inconvenience with the rift I don't believe has been, that virtuality is all well and good in cockpit where all the dials, guages and HUDs are 360 degrees, but, ummm you can't see your hands for the keyboard (to type messages) nor your hand(s) (for the buttons), or the chianti and cup of tea next to the monitor!

I'm presuming a pilot could use hat switch on joysticks for looking around?

Use Voice chat for messages or learn to touch type.
Don't need to see the buttons for anything else.
Voice attack takes care of any you can't map to your controller or joystick.

As for drinking and stuff I assume that when you drink while playing E: D currently that you don't stare at the screen at all times but look at your drink before picking it up. You can do that with the rift:- lift the rift up, take a drink, lower it back down. It's not screwed on.

On the 'can't see your hands' thing, from recent comments, and the acquisition of Carbon design team, it would appear that Oculus are working on 'multiple unannounced projects'.

I'd bet real money they are working on input device/s so that you can see your hands in VR.

The rift sensing your hands and your in game avatar mimicking the movements is different to being able to see your hands and do stuff in the real world.
Not sure why you would have a camera on the rift that you could switch view to so that you can see around you in RL without having to take it off.
Just take it off. CV1 will be differently designed to the DK2 and I would be surprised if it isn't easier to take off and put back on.
I can see the point of sensing your hands so that your avatar responds in the same way as the first thing most people do when using the rift is try and reach out for stuff and say "where's my hands?". It add to the immersion.
