No, and I probably won't either. Its not that I don't like it - I think it is awesome and probably pretty cool in games, but it's also extremely anti-social towards ones family. I usually game in the living room with the rest of the family, and as such, that would take away the social aspect of being there.

Yep. Ordered mine the day it was announced.

Roll on July!

ditto. Fingers crossed on July delivery for me.

My logic is.

1) I have wanted a VR device since the early 90s

2) As tempted by DK1 as I was the resolution and lack of proper tracking put me off. These are fixed now.

3) As much as CV1 may be better, I am not convinced my PC would make full use of the resolution anyway, plus it seems like all of the pieces are essentially in place on DK2

4) I reckon (complete guess) it will be 12 months before CV1 is out. I dont want to wait that long

5) Have you seen the prices of DK1 on ebay? chances are I wont lose much money even if I sell it.

6) In the grand scheme of things its not expensive.

7) When CV1 comes out CV2 will be on the horizon. I am hopeful DK2 will let me sidestep CV1 and get the CV2 in a few years time. (according to an interview CV2 will be out 1 to 2 years after CV1 by which point my PC will be able to get full use out of the increased resolution etc).

And yes I've got a DK2 on order, hope to get it next month.

My thinking is pretty much the same as Mike's on this as well.

Posted this in the "other" thread but might as well seek advice here too:

Would like to consult the wiser minds in this thread:

Based on what I read I presume my puny i7 950 (3.1 Ghz) and GTX680 will not be able to handle the DK2 at 1080, correct?

My game is normally above 60 fps though (cept in rings and stations as usual)

A friend of mine accidentally ordered 2x DK2 and offered one (at cost!) to me upon shipping.

..and up until that point I had been very good and all "yeah I'll wait for the consumer version even tho my PC probably wont manage better than 1080p anyway" ....

I've seen several posts and articles that say A GTX770 is the recommended minimum spec.

Some people would jump at the chance of being cut off/isolated from some of their family members.... :D

On the hardware side, it looks very likely that the CV1 will be >1080p.

This does *not* mean that you will be forced to render in >1080p if you don't own a super duper gaming beast of a computer. Just adjust your settings and render as high as you can and wait for faster/cheaper graphics cards.

I'm down for a DK2 in July, Didn't order till the 25th of March tho so crossing fingers I'll be in the first batch.

No one can really say with any accuracy that your PC will be able to use the DK2 at it's maximum potential with all bells and whistles turned on in game. DK1 was lower res and lower framerate. DK2 has a higher res and frame rate is higher so what worked AOK on one may not work as well on the other (or at least won't be the best it can achieve).

Ideally you will be wanted to play games at 1080p at a rock solid 75FPS.
To do this you will probably need vsync on with the frames limited to 75. This also means that your lowest FPS should be 75 not the max or average. Soon as your frames drop below 75 you'll get a sub optimum experience.

On top of this your GPU will need to display side by side 3D which is more intensive that just one image.

I currently play at 1440p with all bells and whistles on and mainly rock a steady 60fps. It does drop though on occasion depending on where I am and what's going on (was getting 10fps at the Fed distress call the other night, major bad hoojoo going down for some reason). Hopefully dropping the resolution down to 1080p from 1440p will give me some wriggle room (although I've tried the Alpha 1.0 missions at 1080 on low settings and didn't notice much of a difference).

Anyone with doubts or are poo-pooing the Rift then you haven't tried it and I'd recommend (as with pretty much everything) not passing judgement till you've tried one. Ideally hold out for the consumer version as the dev kits are just that and the consumer version will blow your brain through your rubber underpants.

p.s. how is ignoring the family by staring at a screen for hours any different to having that screen attached to your head. If you want to see them just to make sure they haven't left or are doing nasty things to you then you can just take it off for a moment

Its somewhat easier to make conversation with fellow family members whom you can see, than the total absorption I imagine the Occulus to be :)

I wait for CV1 and a CC to be able to order it.
dK1 and DK2 with limited numbers. Less dev support due to lot of non dev owning one.
