The Star Citizen Thread v5

Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
This thread is FILLED with space nerds just in case you didnt notice. Whoever participates in this thread is either interested in SC or at least in the genre SC falls in. So basically this thread is FULL of potential backers and supporters. And if Star Citizen was indeed any good.....then yes WE ALL would play it. Did you really not get that? because if thats the case then I think we nailed down WHY we are unable to communicate here.

Again, we being the posters in this thread is a small number overall.

And a good number of people in this thread do play it.

Yes, all these people (myself included) who are space game fans just aren't that into Star Citizen..?

I have alpha access, i have the launcher on my desktop, and there is no reason at all to bother clicking on it yet alone downloading the latest version and playing it, IMO. I've clocked more hours on NMS than SC. It got an update recently, it was pretty good.

And I'm just the opposite. I have more time in SC than NMS, which I find boring. Even with the latest additions.

Smuggling is one aspect of cargo hauling. Its part of it. I think that may be what he was talking about, not cargo hauling as a whole.

Again, no promise was made for a release date.

There was a promise. CIG has shown the claimed demo of 3.0, and said they are trying to release it in 2016. If this doesn't work, what does constitute a promise in your eyes, a contract written in blood? And smuggling was going to be a part of 3.0 according to those slides: http://imgur.com/gallery/MV2PM

Thank you again for pointing me towards a whole heap of videos. I'm not that great with the You Tube interface, but I couldn't see any videos earlier than 9 months ago

Do you have one single favourite video of the new patch which has just come out? Could you point me towards it? I apologise if the video you were pointing me towards was on that page. Sometimes it's difficult for me to see things which are right under my nose. That's why I'd prefer a link that takes me right to the one single video.

My personal favorite video is the Big Guns of the UEE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGWggc7KjJE). Its NOT a gameplay video. The music (Pedro Camacho is amazing), the fades, the cuts, they are all very well done.

I liked this one recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6GBOLaUZDk and this one (a little older): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ShaKRy_oSk

TRYING to release it in 2016. After he says "NO PROMISES"

Not sure about you but if someone says to me "I'm trying to get this done by then, but no promises". That sure isn't a promise in my eyes.

So you're wrong. It is a promise that they will at least try to do it by the deadline. The fact that a design document for one part of the patch wasn't even started for three months until after the deadline means that they didn't even try to release it on time. After all, the development of a feature can't start until the design is finalized. In other words: if someone says to you that they will try to do something by a deadline and then they won't even try to do that, weren't you lied to?

Most people didn't get refunds. Most people here? Yes. Please be more descriptive Derek. Most people in this thread. Thats not a lot of people.

We would all be playing it. That doesn't say "We all on this thread" or "We all on this forum". It says "We all would be playing it". Due to the use of the words we and all. Its taken to mean more that just a couple dozen posters in this thread.

English is important.

Again Most people in this thread is far from a big number.

My comment "Most got a refund", has no quantification (that's on you) whatsoever. It was a general comment based on known facts by those who i) chose to make it public ii) chose to keep it private (fear of being attacked, retribution etc), while notifying others (like me) privately

Yes - English is important. Reading and comprehension skills even more so. I'm not sure if you are truly reading comprehension impaired, or just trolling us. This isn't your Reddit enclave. Around here, we do pay attention.

Your turn.

How am I wrong. They tried. They couldn't get it done by then.

They didn't try. They have started planning how to release 3.0 in 2017. The goddamned 3.0 schedule was finalized a week or two ago, according to Erin. Did they start developing 3.0 without a schedule or a design document?

Exactly my point.

No quantification was given, thus my comments are accurate.

Finalized does not mean it wasn't started, wasn't developed, wasn't written.

I do work in software. We do major releases of our software approximately once a year. Design documents are NOT complete at the start of the project. We need to know existing bug loads, existing product pipeline, existing customer demands, staffing.

We do a skeleton schedule that gets fleshed in. And it works.

ITIL CSI and all that.

They just need a few more days, the realism and fidelity isn't quite there yet and Genuine Roberts doesn't want to disappoint the fans by showing off subpar content. Him and Erin will hold a go/no-go meeting about it soon - or at least discuss the concept of such. You just have to believe in the vision. You'll ultimately harm the project if you don't fully believe. Without Star Citizen, PC gaming is dead.

Buy an Idris!

uhm, no; that's not how that works. The comment required no quantification because it was contextual; otherwise, I would have said "90%" instead of "most". You know, like how you used a fictitious % to come up with my Twitter mentions of Star Citizen.

Where did anyone say without Star Citizen PC gaming is dead?

Or that if you don't fully believe you will harm the project?

Indeed but thats not the issue.

The issue is that only a few people in this thread care to play it (only a couple really). While a good number of people possess it but dont bother to play it.

Or that if you don't fully believe you will harm the project?

I also think that was the very reason for DS to be expelled :)

Talking of the public schedule tracker thing (mentioned in passing a few pages ago), did they take it down while they start over on the 3.0 schedule? All I can find is this page of recent bug fixes and entirely speculative future milestones with no dates.

I'm excited to see the next promised/hinted/vaguely-hand-waved date that they're definitely going to miss.

I see not one line that says if you don't support Star Citizen PC games will die.

I liked that bit where he was watching a ship swoop and soar majestically past... then smash into the ring <grin>

Sometimes paying attention to your surroundings helps. =)

None of those say without Star Citizen PC gaming is dead.

server build is done, I'll check back in tonight... time to do a code check.
