The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

That's exactly what we analyzed.
During the month of December we studied (DSN POI recon team) the EDSM star map and we noticed that the Perseus Arm was very little exploited. So we decided to create a mission of recognition and analysis `Perseus Survey` in this galactic arm.
We left Bubble Nebula on January 14 and we ascend the galactic arm slowly. Our goal is to find a maximum of POIs for the Galactic Mapping Project and reach the Perseus Stem in March.
Hoping to find us in the right place at Q1 release.

Very nice! Looking forward to learn about your findings :)

Challenge accepted :) I have a long boring flight for next couple of evenings, so should be able to do that.

The GMP is here to throw out challenges :)

Going from Ishtar to Mare Desperationis / central Abyssal Plain. Hope to find something interesting.

It is a rarely travelled area, so you should be able to find lots of undiscovered stuff out there. Safe travels.

Yes, but just being undiscovered is not enough to become a nice POI. ;) I wanted to fill the Ishtar-gap on EDSM POI map, so have been searching for anything interesting but it seems that the gap is there for a reason. Or that I devoted too less time. Had found one neutron-based green system but then found out that greenies are no longer needed. Found a gas giant with 10 landable moons but missing polonium made it "nothing special" instead of "jumponium planet".

Life of an explorer is tough sometimes... ;)

Orvidius has made a heatmap showing all scanned stars in EDSM.

When I merge it with the GMP map of the galactic regions, this is the result:

Clearly there are some regions out there who are still quite rarely explored... (Im looking at you Hipparcos Bassin!)

Very interesting map Corbin ! Thank you.
It would be interesting to have progress every semester. However, the map doesn't retrace the galactic planes. But it's interesting! :)

They are still needed in "greenless" regions, including the ones you are going to, as Corbin Moran stated earlier:

With the new feature to search for green systems via the EDSM database we will be much more restrictive about adding green systems to the map.

Still, it is a nice feature to be able to spot at least some om the many green systems directly on the galactic map as a POI entry.

There are a few regions on the map entirely devoid of player-submitted green system POIs:
- East: Gallipolis / Circinus Transit / Euros / The Torment / The Ascendance / Hipparcos Bassin
- Far Northwest: Mare Desperationis / central Abyssal Plain
- Far Southeast: Orion Spur Shallows / Perseus Transit / Tenebris
- Near West: Anthor Patch / south Orio-Persean Conflux

If you have found anything in those regions, please let us know.

If you find green systems outside these areas we will probably not add it to the map.

Cheers :)

Don't want to enter this if it's not interesting or if it's too common, but out of 15,000+ systems I've visited how come I haven't seem to ever seen a High Metal Content planet like this?

Atmosphere: Water-Rich
98.5% Nitrogen
1.5% Water

No volcanism, but is a candidate for terraforming.

If it is worthy enough I'll enter in a POI for it, but I can't believe I haven't seen this before (or at least not noticed ones like it)...

I tried to help out this project, and realized my 'helpful post' isn't really helpful, I oughta follow the proper format.
Ahem, here's the one generation ship currently missing...

- POI Name: Artemis Generation ship
- POI Type: Mystery POI
- GalMap Ref: Mu Cassiopeia
- Description: Generation Ship Artemis was discovered on October 4, 3303. It is located in orbit of planet C 1 in Mu Cassiopeia. Recovered logs indicate the ship's crew and passengers were murdered by a single serial killer over time. Fancying himself a wolf in sheep's clothing, he faked teeth and claw marks on the first victims to throw investigators on a false trail. Euthanizing the stowaway dog did not stop the murders...

Hey! I think I'm responsible for that square above and a bit left of SagA*!

Edit: Ok, I apparently still don't understand how to use imgur tags.

POI type: Nebula
Galmap ref: Hypoe Ploe JA-C c14-44
Poi Name Hypoe Ploe Nebula (please rename if any ideas)

Desc: Small nebula with just handful of systems and out of usual travel routes. Typical shape and colour. Search so far did not reveal any unusual features.

POI type: Nebula
Galmap ref: Egnaix CW-H C12-4
Poi Name: Sky High Nebula (please rename if any ideas)

Desc: One of the highest nebulae about 2300ly above galaxy plane. Just a handful of systems. Search so far did not reveal any unusual features.
As it is so high it offers interesting view.

NAME: The Glitchtron
SYSTEM(s) (there are three of them):
1st (consider it main one, name, screens and description provided are for it): NGC 6567 Sector IR-W d1-40
2nd: Bleia Dryiae LP-M D8-3
3rd: Blae Drye JN-H D11-17

DESCRIPTION: A neutron star rotating with madly insane high speed (possibly due to coding mistake or a glitch). Besides abnormal rotation object acts like a normal neutron star, flying through its spectacular thick jets is safe. The pair of stars - red and brown dwarf - are orbiting it just 30ly away, making perfect opportunity for a spectacular photo. One of them is also scoopable.

POI Name : The Big Three
POI Type : Stellar Features
GalMap Ref : Floawns RZ-G d10-1353

That looks like some serious anomaly of the stellar forge

Could you (or anyone else in the vicinity reading this) post images or screenshots showing that fuel scooping is possible and flying through the jets is safe? Would be great material to add to any map entry about this.

Are you on PC or Xbox?

New POI

POI Name: Name required
POI Type: Black Hole
Galmap Reference: Engopt HL-Y e0

This small black hole of only 2.6 solar masses is a rarity as its located in the Perseus Transit region of the Perseus Arm.

Really? I come by at least 3 of such systems everyday when I travel... I do not even take photos anymore as they are quite common.. Never considered it a glitch, just a very fast one, but my knowledge of these things is minimal :) Thinking of it if there is another star less than 10 ls away then neutron star is usually much faster.

Well, this phenomenon is news to me at least :D During my current two year expedition I have stayed away from neutron boosting for safety reasons. I will ask the rest of the mapping team about their experience with fast spinning neutrons.

I'm on PC. Unfortunately I am now like 2-3k Ly from that system, so I can't bring more screenshots now. I can however give screenshot of flight log from EDD, showing that I entered this system, overcharged my FSD and safely traveled further without taking any damage:

I concur with Baton, I've seen many examples of mad strobing neutrons. Millisecond pulsars are a thing in the real galaxy so they can spin mindbogglingly fast for something with so much mass.
