Maybe you CMDRs who've been there can help me better understand this. I went to Mitterand Hollow over the weekend trying to experience the SRV-in-Space shenanigans.
I had much fun at the beginning finding out about the gravity zone, trying to land on a surface that seemed to speed away from me at 300 m/s, getting a moon in the face while trying to land from the other direction and dying, getting stuck below the surface in the SRV and self-destruct, being returned to my AspX which was now also below the surface and self-destruct.
But in most of my further attempts trying to find a usable landing site and drive the SRV into the "gravity up" zone, I wasn't even able to find a spot less than 1Mm from the Gnosis to land near. I would start from the Gnosis' hangar, going to SC pointed directy at Mitterand Hollow's center and approach until I reached the orbital cruise zone. Now, with the Gnosis selected, the sum of my distance from the station and my distance from the surface per the right-hand bar, should've been less than 1000 mM, but it wasn't. Flying around looking for the closest point between the two also didn't yield anything closer. I tried this several times, starting again from the station, logging out, restarting etc. Only once I was able to find a surface area closer than 1000Mm to the Gnosis again, but hadn't the opportunity to land.
Can someone explain to me what's going on and if I'm making something wrong or thinking incorrectly? Or is the Gnosis's orbit around the moon just elliptical due to New Africa's gravity and I was just unlucky to try at the wrong times?
Edit: ofc it’s 1.000 Mm or 1000km.
