Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

I confess that, outside of Mining & Exploration changes, the things I'm most keen to find out about are:

Have missions got a better difficulty/payout curve than is currently the case?

Have they finally let MoM's AI creations off the leash? ;)

I think they are. Wait for the live stream demoes. There's a learning curve and depth, yet with experience it should be quick and easy to identify interesting Star Systems.

<Wipes brow> Phew. Was a little worried for a while.

Incidentally, this is a popular thread for the devs, 3 of them out of 180 browsing the thread.

This is most reassuring thing I have heard in weeks.

Fingers crossed for speedy beta. Can't wait to see this puppy update in action.

Well look - why not wait till the Q4 beta now? We've all discussed this point to death by now, and there's very little point in regurgitating it here. Let's all wait till we can get our grubby paws on it - then the salt can flow further.

Because of the NDA's we have to wait until Frontier decides to let the rest of us know what is going on. All we can do is hope the solution is a good one and that it addresses the issues the community had with the original proposal, without marginalizing the new mechanics at the same time.

David Attenborough voice : 'And now we see, in the wild, the reason FD don't answer many questions. See the constant stream of requests for more information, clarifications, and updates, and squabbles over the exact meaning of words as the young of the tribe try to come to terms with the offering of hype-food from their parent figures. Often we see this clamour continuing on for weeks, until the onset of a time called "The Beeeeta". Truely what the say is true .... the hype is real'

He isn't real, his name was changed from Boaty McBoatface

Indeed - they're all under an NDA so no point in asking specifics. It's up to FDEV now to spill the beans.

You'll be aware of the concerns I've raised in other threads, so I'm hoping FDEV solution to those have been covered, and from the vague reports in this thread, they might have been - but I fear it might be in ways I won't like, however, I'll cross that bridge in the Q4 beta when I'm going to be livestreaming testing it to death and hopefully not swearing too much.

So I'm just waiting now for more information, which is only going to come from FDEV when they're ready to give it. And/or when Q4 beta becomes available.

Interesting as in

(a) Credit-valuable
(b) Surface POIs
(c) Dramatic surface geography like deep canyons, tall mountains, mist, etc

?

I said interesting Star Systems - not planets - as in their layouts and compositions. For surface scanning info, see FDev's previous threads.

Malic, who's a prominent canyon drifter always seeking new planetary environments to zoom around, had doubts of the new exploration mechanics prior to yesterday - but no longer has those concerns.

Yeah, I was talking about systems. Made up of planets. That, to me, is what makes systems interesting.

Thanks. That's a definite (if a little vague, for obvious reasons) note of optimism.

Was there anything on the new USS system?

I have this worry that materials are suddenly going to become a lot more scarce.

As in it may become easier to find a specific material you want, but getting a number of those will be much more painful.

Figured :D

Ok one more angle: Were any sections of the dev zones out of bounds to prevent expansion spoilers? And did you get any impression of how much of the team were on 3.3 right now vs other parallel work?

Cheers S

The Elite Dangerous devroom is one huge, open area, so the vast majority of monitors were switched off for our brief 5 minute tour of it. A few dozen monitors were displaying things for keen eyes to see as we passed by.

Not specifically. See FDev's previous announcement on the team, regarding 3.3, and the next era.

T.j. will be happy to know, if the update disappoints I'll be blaming G.T. for getting my hopes up.

Thin ice, ice, baby.
