Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

For killing scouts, can you find plenty of them in the Pleiades area, or do you have to travel to the weekly systems?

Just thought I'd follow up, maybe others might find useful too. Followed yours and Conte_Vincero tips and few from Reddit too, and came up with this build which has so far been solid when I've dropped in to NHSS level 3 and 4 plus a few 5's. Having the MC's and beam has been good back up while I practice with the Gauss gun (slowly improving). I made the beam long range, but I'm not sure it's really necessary so might look at oversizing. Otherwise the build is good. In battle I could possibly dump the Guardian FSD booster for AFMU in order to stay out a bit longer.

Build preview:

For scouts, well, anything goes really, but I started out with a similar build but ended up with:

The reason being; you don't need a Xeno scanner for scouts - and a heat sink is something I have never used. Instead, I went with the caustic limpet. 3 x AX cannon and twin gimballed cannons gave me all the firepower I needed. Last night I played for 45 minutes and got through 5% of Deadly rank (I actually got Elite) so that build is more than powerful enough.

That all said, I used Gauss for a long time and it worked well, but on a laptop I could never aim the things (in VR I was lethal) so the MCs made more sense for the gaming I have been doing (7 month old baby, so I've switched to laptop to move around the house :p ). For training purposes with the flowers, I'd certainly try a few things out since it's quite low risk.

I am now in posession of an Anaconda, as soon as i have engineered it to the eyeballs i will will be back. Fear me Thargoids, fear me i say!

I have been grinding trade to get enough cash and rank, got to elite (my first) and had 663m creds, happy days. Will be trying to solo a basilisk as soon as the good ship “heavy messing” is finished, couldnt do it it my FGS.

Happy hunting all

ahh yes - 16 month old in my house so play time severely limited.

Definitely I'm using scouts as a practice for the Gauss. Interesting that VR made the Gauss easier. I've got a Rift gathering some dust so maybe have to dig it out. Reduced hours of gaming has meant I tend to bypass it.

P.S. - for scouts you're right the heatsink is a waste of time. However without Xeno do I get no info on %hull of the scout?

Yeah, Xeno gives the %age and the type of scout (as there are several). I think it's worthwhile, if only to know when to stay away to avoid the corrosive deathspray ;) With interceptors I believe it is required so you can target the hearts.

The Xeno scanner also provides the status of the Thargoid panic shield I believe, so you don't charge back in too early ;)

The exerted hearts are easy visible on an interceptor but if you're using "goose" cannons the sub system targeting is very useful, my successful interceptor kills were using shard cannons on a heavily engineered FAS so the area damage doesn't require such accurate targeting.

Scout build, even with synthesis ammo is the limiting factor with AX builds

Yup, used to play exclusively in VR, then I bought a laptop so I could be a bit more flexible with my gaming (which is still very limited) and I reserve VR for the Friday night.
My laptop screen is 17inch so targeting is just that much harder than it being in front of me in VR - so it's just that I think. I could play on a TV I guess and the Gauss would likely be fine then - but again, it's just a limitation and I was keen to get as many as I could in each instance, as quickly as I could.

Everyone is right, of course, about the Xeno - but with Scouts, they pop so quickly I just went with an extra shield booster. It makes a hell of a difference in grade 5s when those Caustic missiles are flying... and it's fairly easy to know how/when they're going to blow up by the sounds they all make (same for shields). It's a personal thing - I started off with them, then got rid. I'll be replacing it for flower fighting. I'd rather the scanner told me where the hearts are and not have to do it by eye.

Targets this week : Wayutabal, Negrito and Iota Pictoris A

HIP 9141 attacked this week

Hydra in Celaeno, also Merope. Not seen recently.

Looks like the full range of NHSS in all targets this week.

Eagle Eye targets this week:
EE3: mel 22 sector mc v d2 19 bc 1b
* Ngaiawang - Bellmarsh class megaship wreck near planet 1
* Wayutabal - Kaiser Terminal
EE4: hip 14909 2a
* Brib - Gordon Class megaship wreck planet 4
* Negrito - Steakley Station
EE5: hip 22375 3a
* Opet - Henry Class Megaship wreck
* Iota Pictoris A - Barmin Dock

Systems are saved by kills in the target systems- each kill counts the same, so a Scout is as useful as an Interceptor. Bonds do not matter.

Locations of the Aegis megaships Acropolis and Vanguard.

* NHSS will be found in systems within 10 Ly of target, these are not important.

There are wrecked megaships in each targeted system as well. Also, more instances of Interceptors (at least Hydrae) that are chilling at NHSS without having scouts present.

So I was stopping by Malthus Terminal in Pleiades Sector HR-W D1-41 about an hour ago and just as I was heading in to dock at the station, spotted a transmitter in the contacts list 1000km out. I stop by Malthus quite regularly and hadn't noticed it before. I was planning to go have a look but by the time I launched less than 5 min later it was gone. Tried super cruising back into Malthus to get it to spawn again, but had no luck. My quick google efforts indicated it may have something to do with an upcoming thargoid attack, but I have no idea as I don't follow this eagle eye stuff. Make of it what you will. Hope it helps.

Malthus was attacked a year ago I think - transmitters remain after attack.

How often do they appear? Cause Ive dropped by Malthus 5 or 6 times tonight, maybe 30 times this week, and god knows how often over the last year, and Ive never spotted it before.

They always are there, but they are 1000 km from the starport and appear very sporadically on the scanner. I've had them appear first time, other times you need to use a Thargoid Link to find them (for current targets only).

So 3 Thargoid attacks all with in a short distance from each other. Is this random or does it at least look like they are converging on Achenar?

Yeah, I noticed they are close this week, didn't look how far from Achenar, getting lazy ;)

After watching the Frontier livestream this evening, I wonder if there will be a BGS state that represents a station owned by a faction being under threat of Thargoid attack. Ever since the Thargoids began attacking stations people have wanted to see NPCs and factions (and Aegis!) respond to the imminent danger and this would be a natural way to do it. If this happened, it might also mean you could filter for the state on the Galaxy Map and not need Eagle Eye to tell you where to look each week. Are there any activities related to this planned for the Beta (e.g. visiting Eagle Eye stations, checking the pipeline works and seeing what it tells you, fighting off Thargoids - which might also get scenarios of their own)? I want to test the scanning mechanics during the Beta but I expect to feel the need to take a break and do something else sometimes (and play on live - I want to be back in the Bubble in time for release).
