@Filthymick420

Thing is mick, clearly it means a lot to some people because well, here we are. If you really are not invested in VR why not save yourself the pain this is clearly causing you by just not getting involved. Unless of course that's your poison. The 'U MAD BRO' t shirt could be an indication of that kind of personality after all.
2 years ago i bought a psvr brand new when i got ED because the settings menu told me i could adjust my VR settings. I still cant use VR. Im not on here every third post DEMANDING answers and rage quiting swearing I'll sue for a refund. I still play and enjoy the game. Im sure we could make estute observations about your forum avatar as well but ill leave that kind of drivel to you. Id rather folks act like adults and not like cry babies

PC users waited had a couple of delays for consoles. I didn't mind, because DB mentioned his intention to support consoles before the game was released. I do get your point, though.

Exactly, and i get a delay for consoles because there's potentially a lot of people who might play the game. I think VR is amazing from what little ive seen of the game in VR, but at present it's clearly not a large proportion of the player base. That's unfortunate but you can't design Odyssey if:

a) certain design aspects of it are only really possible using traditional input devices that won't work at all or well for VR players
b) the above can be done but takes up more dev time in order to get it right and delays the game.

I hope they do intend to support Odyssey in VR as id like to get a headset when I can afford to do so, and it would be sad to have the game fragmented permanently like that.

Maybe you arent specifically but this whole thread is a farce. Its a shame it started as a community manager trying to share what little information they are permitted to.
This has blown up because Frontier have dropped VR (in Odyssey), which naturally has provoked a reaction from those involved and from those not directly involved. Frontier, as usual, keep well out of it (probably wisely).

yep well, good luck with that.

Is it though?
So many of the "VR crowd", before it was announced there would be no support at launch, were busy bleating about vomiting over their keyboards or not being able to control their CMDR in FPS, and how they would be disdavantaged over the KB/M crowd, etc, ad nauseum...
Now they are up in arms that they can't play in VR from launch...
Priceless...

Yes, I play in VR, Yes I have a high-end PC... Do I actually care over much? No, not really, I still play more than 50% of the time in pancake because of RL constraints, I'll just play anyway - so, can't play the new content in VR at launch, oh well, that's life 🤷‍♂️

So you don't care, I do. That's life.

But Frontier have never supported the PSVR, and therefore can't drop support for it in Odyssey.

Is Elite Dangerous: Odyssey coming to VR?

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will not be VR-compatible at launch. We’re big fans of VR and we are truly proud of the amazing experience that we currently offer in Elite Dangerous. However, the new gameplay, mechanics and features that will be introduced with Elite Dangerous: Odyssey means that we had to re-examine if we could deliver that same experience without compromise, which, for launch, means Odyssey will not be VR-compatible.
Thanks Tim,

This thing that interests me is whether the Odyssey gameplay will be totally segregated as in Horizons. i.e when you are in the base game you can't even get to planet surfaces. I assume this will be the same for Odyssey. This would mean the locations where space-legs can be used such as Planet surfaces (or ships/stations) would essentially be inaccessible to ships not launching Odyssey. This will be a massive disappointment to VR Players and even result in areas becoming Off limits.

The alternative which I assume MUST be correct is that ships & SRVs can still go to the planet surfaces (with Horizons) but without launching Odyssey you won't be able to exit the vehicle. This sounds FINE to me although it raises the question of whether you can interact with other players who ARE running around the surface on legs.

Any clarity possible on this?
