List of Earth-like worlds, v3

Submissions require a screenshot, see OP for how you should format them. Also, none of these ELWs are in EDSM. While it's not required, it would be very helpful if you sent your data over. I'd be very interested to see the system data for Vegnooe AA-A h4 as it also has an O-class star.

If you posted them because you'd like your Earth-likes added to the list, then sure. In the five years it has been active, there has been pretty much just one rule: "no screenshot, no entry".

As a reminder, to you and everyone: as I wrote before, I'll be closing the list for new submissions on the 20th, ten days from now on.

So, @Leif_Erikson 's post in another thread got me thinking, which led to me having some ideas. In short: as originally planned, updates will be closed from tomorrow; as not originally planned, I'll be making an improved version of the sheet. Once that's done, I'll continue adding entries again, though likely on a WIFLI basis. No promises on an ETA, but it'll probably be done before Odyssey ;)

Now that the short version there is done, allow me to elaborate. When I saw all the effort he (Leif_Erikson) put in there, I thought that if he found one, I'd like to add it in. But that would be unfair to everyone else whose entries I wouldn't add in, and I wouldn't like to start giving preferential treatment to some people. But wait, why would I like to add it in? Because it would be extremely rare, and it would be much easier to look both it and also other rare ELWs up later (in case we'll ever get to interact more with ELWs) here than it would be elsewhere.
💡
Now that's an interesting thing to look into, and to improve what we made. The list started five years ago to make a catalogue of ELWs and find out as much as possible from crowdsourced data. That latter part is pretty much done, I believe. As for the former, bear in mind that there was no EDSM, EDDN, not even journal files back then. There are now, and there are far more Earth-likes in there than here, with almost exactly as much data stored - the journals log nearly everything that's visible on screenshots. But if somebody wanted to find rare ELWs, they'd have to dig through either the data dumps from EDSM or the processed data from EDAstro, there's no quick and easy way of finding them.

Meanwhile, the list here already has a pretty neat rarity score calculation, but there's one problem with it: it draws from the list's data set, which is quite limited compared to what's out there. So I have some ideas on how to use the complete data to calculate a second rarity score as well; we'll see which ones work out.

Some of the planned changes: the new version of the list will be sorted by rarity score, not by distance to Sol. (That's becoming less and less relevant anyway.) I'll also be removing some charts and calculations that I think are now obsolete: the "By Luminosity", "By Distance" and "In Nebula Sectors" subsheets. I'll keep a copy of the old version public, of course, so they won't be lost.

I think that's all for now then. Apologies if anyone feels bad about me announcing closing the list, and then changing my mind and not actually doing it. If I had this idea for a new version sooner, I would have just said nothing and made it :) (I think Odyssey's announcement actually helped, since it gave me some hope that maybe Frontier will add landing on Earth-likes before the development of the game is finished. Before it, the expansion looked to be space legs only.) I'll let y'all know once the new version is up.

When the journals started putting pretty much everything in EDSM I, for one, lost interest in contributing to this list but if it becomes focussed on tracking the rarities then I might well start to contribute anything out of the ordinary I find again.

So don't feel bad about refocussing rather than closing out of hand.

Okay, this last update is up, the next one is going to be for the new version. Also, a heads-up in case somebody would notice it on their own: the rarity scores of a few dozen entries have gone down (none of them drastically), because there was a rare error in the calculation that I spotted only just now. Whoops, my bad.

Had added four more to the public sheet over the weekend but I guess they missed the cut. Thanks again for all your work.

Quick question :
Do I understand you correctly that new ELWs we discover in the meantime we should still track for a future version of your list?
