The thread (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/fdev-ed-relevant-quotes-videos.553526/#post-8671776) I started is for any vid (or other official source or original rumour reference) related to E D mysteries. Please post Twitch or YT vid links or anything else there, but strip off the preceding “https:\\” so the link is embedded without all the graphical stuff that this forum software imposes and which makes page refresh problematic. The link can still be clicked and it will open up the reference.

@Macros- perhaps a link to that thread in the op of this?

I suspect Jameson’s wreck was placed early when (I suspect) the Thargoids threat was due to “come across the Formidine Rift” ( early, now retconned so no longer canon, book reference) & presumably from Bovomit. It’s location could make sense in that context.
I think there was a misunderstanding between some authors on the Formidine Rift. If I remember correctly, on book character places the Formidine Rift between Reorte and Riedquat.

When it comes to the direction Thargoids came from, ED is at least relatively consistent with FFE. The Pleiades is still a forward Thargiod position and COL 70 sector fy-n c21-3 fits relatively well with Miackce (go to Pleiades, turn a bit left and go to 1000 ly from earth).

It's always difficult to compare positions to FFE / FE2. The Galaxy in those games were extremely flattened and the import of real stars were done wrong. All real stars have galactic east and west swapped. This is probably the reason for the Old Worlds jumping to the other side the bubble, as well.

Yes, though having Thargoids coming across the FRift from Bovomit would also explain that graveyard area of damaged ships and their beacon messages. I think it highlighted a certain problem with FDevs
/designers/authors not talking to each other & unawares of the extant lore. It was around that time all the lore seemed to be retconned. Not surprising since FD would likely have tried to maintain Chinese Walls on significant gameplay design details amongst themselves as well as the authors.

That JH quote sounds a lot like the Rebecca speech which I thought was an homage to Blade Runner and Hauer's character when he saves Ford. Sounds like the idea was around for a bit before, possibly on the writers forum, or 2 people had the same idea independently. But JH is the only one that maybe links it to the Rift, if its not a completely separate statement divided by a comma. Interesting.

There was a comment on the Lore Tour about the PS being a young nebula and therefore had more 'energy' iirc and unspecified what that energy was (radiation of some type presumably but could be others?) and this is why the Thargs maybe came from there or had used it as forward base, because of the availability of that energy. I can speculate what that may mean and would fit in with moving Thargs from FR if that was ever the idea.

Re Confusion between authors - it does seem like the game was written over the books and where things arent the same or just arent there its that the game didnt behave as intended after the authors were given info to include or asked for something to be included. And some are just plain bugs. But the game is the finished version of whats 'there' and what isnt and doesnt look like any of it is getting updated to be 'correct' so the books will always seem wrong.

Thinking more about Ram Tah past couple days. I’m not sure his missions are related to raxxla. TDW is the better bet for info imo. If Raxxla is meant to be a mystery for all players that means that includes those without Horizons. Which means they don’t have access to engineers or the ability to search guardian sites since they don’t have planetary landing either. They can land stations tho, like TDW station.

Watching the last FDEV stream waiting for the CG to start. He mentions rewards for CG’s and says there will be rewards other than monetary rewards but can’t say what they are. But that CG’s are connected to the wider narrative over the next 2 years and that some rewards include “invitations to certain things and permits” but can’t say where to or what for.
...intewesting 🤔

If they’re Sirius about that I gotta grind those CG’s to make sure to get top 10% since a certain somebody only invites “the best”
Polaris maybe? Someone got a peek inside by parking a FC nearby and buying trade data to the system. It had a gas giant with 8 moons.

iirc they said that in response to a Q and the permits bit was part of the question and they mixed permits in with the answer. My IRL response at the time was 'They need to have a standard answer for these things to avoid confusion, something like Thats a good question, but Im not going to answer it / wont answer / cant answer' As long as its the same answer it would avoid misinterpretation or placing emphasis on certain words or things a la Gan Romero style or the SB incident :)

[…]
Sorry, but it was never between Reorte and Riedquat. It's from Drew Wagars novel and there its described that you draw a straight line from Reorte through Riedquat and then keep going to "the edge of the galactic arm". On his lore toure Drew said that he considered the gap between the Heart and the Soul Nebual to be the "door" to the Formidine Rift.

So, a few things.

When I talked about homers odyssey I had already mapped out a bunch of stuff to travel between, but I was always unsure as
some things get lost in translation, and eroded
Over time. Place names can changed with various telling a of the story.

To compound the issues, Many myths, legend and stories are Rendered into the night sky
so we can easily find star systems from the lore of the ancient Egyptians, ancient Chinese ancient Greeks, Roman Empire and the learned Arabic scholars who kept academia, wisdom And knowledge Alive whilst Europe fell into the dark ages tabooing non-Christian concepts for math, medicin and astronomy.

So We can look for references in our myths and lo-and-behold there is a star system with that name falling inline with ancient Greek hypothesis as well as our confirmation bias.

I even started looking up the current “real-world” Island names for homers The Odyssey

But what about something concrete....
Like a frame-shift wake scanner.

In the Novell DW, Jason RYDER tells his son Alex RYDER about “raxxla”
Alex gets help from Rafe Zetter.
Alex has two children
In the in-game encyclopaedia it stats the children were oftenInitiated in the DW Oberon RYDER and Neptune RYDER who are a part of the DW.
There are a
Limited amount of Ryders in the game,
Some out in Maia / Pleiades
But we have one closer to home.
Liz Ryder who (after a
Connection to a gangster group Eurybia Blue) got kicked out of her old job
At DEVASTATORS AND SON (a family business? One she got disowned by?)
And created her own company Demolition Unlimited with help from Eurybia Blue
And the oddest named space station hovering above, Chris and Sylvia’s paradise hideout.

so we follow the wakes of the Ryder family(?)

all I need now is a wedding barge in Eurybia with a get together of the Ryder family.

oddly enough, when I just flew over there to have a look to see if that is even possible,
I noted I habookmarked system next to Eurybia called Scylla which was a six headed monster Odysseus had to navigate between it and charibdis a whirlpool/vortex
Which can be found in the real-world of the straits of Messina

(dunk dunk dunk is the sound of my head against the keyboard, either it’s a blatant clue or FDEV is messing with us)

Also dates and when places were colonised ALSO could be a big blatant clue.
I’m not a big lore/timeline guru.

but the first recorded mention of Raxxla is tornqvists story from 2296
Raxxla is of alien origin.
The colony at leesti was established 2413 (according to the tourist beacon)
First contact with the thargoids was at lave in 3125
Soontill Relics were discovered PRior to 3300 (when the game started) but when exactly???
Could we find a link between first frame shift drives and colony dates?

Any factions with the Zetter family name?

I think there is at least a generation or three between Liz and Jason.

From "And Here The Wheel" we have Oberon and Neptune Ryder ,
but also there is Robert and Jordan Garry who turn out to be Ryders too.

Liz's heritage is in doubt too.

AHTW time line is just before 3300, but Soontil Relics were known to CIEP well before that by implication.

No Zetters in the game whatsoever that I can find..

btw, the only Charybdis in game I could find is a Capital Ship LLV Charybdis - flagship of the Imperial fleet.. I expect its quite busy atm :)

Of cource 😁

The Rift between Reorte and Riedquat was just a small anecdote in one of the other authors book.
It was probably due to missunderstanding Drew’s info.

Hmm, I thought I read all the official stories that came with ED. Never heared of that... but reading the books lies definitely some years in the past for me.

A few questions have been stuck in my mind recently with respect to the Raxxla mystery.

1) Why did sap 8 cores need to be nuked out (including player's cargo holds) of the game for a time only to be reintroduced latter if they do not do anything?

The only way i can see fdev responding so aggressively is that there was some catastrophic bug with how they functioned, and that sap 8s at least did something historically. Removing the method for getting sap 8s would be consistent with fdev behavior, but removing them from player's holds is rather extreme. Fdev only seems to do things like this in response to extreme exploits or bugs presumably. (G5 for G1 engineering mats exploit and the print cash exploits come to mind as the only other examples of the top of my head)

2) How was the pre-launch beta starting area chosen (i Bootis, Erranis, Assellus primus etc) ?

Lave Sol, or Ross 154 (or a system very near them) would have been obvious choices. Many of the systems have system descriptions, and interesting names from a mythological perspective. Wyrd is derived from an old norse word for fate or personal destiny (Slightly off toptic: Do thargoids count as ice giants from old norse myths?), and Aulis was the intended starting location for the iliad according to Wikipedia. (just to mention a few). The area is only really significant to the beta backers, and new players would not likely be aware of the area's history. Finding Raxxla with likely make the gaming press, and possible the real press. The story has more impact if an 84er or similar finds raxxla (Playing all the games for years etc, childhood dream fulfilled etc.) When Elite goes EOL and the servers are getting shut down in 2 years who is going to go back for a last push to find raxxla? (assuming it has not been found up to then) It likely be the 84ers and similar diehard elite fans like those that were in beta. Where might they head? if for no other reason than old times sake? Lave, Ross 154, LHS 3447 and the old beta bubble. (just a few of the old favorite haunts one last time.)

I've been doing the paper-trail stuff, to try and hem in the search radius.
So there are 3 mysteries Raxxla, Soontill and the Dark Wheel station. Apparently we will know it's the real Dark-Wheel station because they have ancient artefacts we can walk around and investigate.......sounds like DarkWheel station will have to wait until space-legs........wait, are space-stations like the Dark-Wheel also walkable in odyssey?

Elite ( the first game) sort of takes place in the Elite Dangerous world in 32nd century 3100 sees the Pilots federation give Jameson the first title of Elite.

Soontill is a planet full of thargoid stuff -> thargoids don't come into the picture until 2849

Offical contact is made with the thargoids in 3125 with the for-runner of the Alliance, the Galactic Cooperative (galcorp) who basically goes to war with the thargoids, spearheads inra.
They reverse engineer their tech, and build a Quirium based hyperdrive, allowing humans to jump to other galaxies.

2696 - Galcorp was based on the old words, the first set of truly independent colonies (who could cut ties away from Federal and Imperial and create their own super-power)
these worlds were Lave, Leesti, Diso, Zoance, Reorte, Quator, Reidquat, Tionisla, Uszaa.
Those colonies were founded between 2412 -> 2422

Whereas the soontill relics sold in Ngurri are crystal-based and don't appear to be of Thargoid tech (possibly a teaser for the guardians).
Ngurri does NOT fall into the location of Soontil, which is a planet hidden in a debris field of a Brown Dwarf 2AU 998ls, according to "And here the wheel" by John Harper.
where the circle(?) would launch its attacks on Delta Pheonicis from Grandmort via Broman and then Lanaest and THE PLANETOID Soontill was on that flight-path.

So where does this leave raxxla? A couple of centuries earlier. The earliest mention is 2296 in a journal from Tau Ceti.
By the start of 2100 after the creation of "The federation" in the nuclear ashes of WW3, the colonisation of the moon and mars was well underway, as well as the launch of the generation ships.
Mankind does nothing until Qin Jao invents the hyperdrive (no real date is given) but the first probes based on this tech 2151 come back from Tau Ceti.
2151 Tau Ceti discovered and starts being colonized.
2190 Colonies in Delta Pavonis (20ly), Altair(16ly) are established.
2230 Colony in Beta Hydri (24 lys)
2280 Martian Relic found on Mars, the feds hush it up and whisk it away. (if it was 2080 it would have been cooler as it would have hinted that the hyperdrive could have been based off this thing)
2288 Eotienses begins to be Colonized. ( 115 ly from Sol) This is also Denton Patreus home-system, which establishes a colony in 2312 with a terraformed planet (planetfall) and they sign up to the empire in 2314 )
2292 the republic of Achenar is declared (140 ly from Sol)
2296 the pacifist Marlin Duval who wanted to protect the native INTELLIGENT SPECIES of Achenar 6d gets killed by her brother who forms the Empire as we know today, and he wipes out that species as well.
oh, and also in the same year, some space journal mentions someplace called Raxxla

Now I remember BrabeN saying that the imperials tried to get as far away from the Feds as possible and as quickly as they could, and built inwards back towards Federation space.
The core-systems are (according to the wiki) a sphere of a radius150lys of Sol, this tallies that Achenar was on the fringe of humanities knowledge of the bubble by Raxxla's mention.
That being said it's not an even 150ly radius from Sol, because the "old-worlds" of Lave, Leesti and Diso, but they didn't get discovered until 2412-2422 More than a century later, and they were 115ly away, mankind was not exactly colonizing with the same speed and in all directions.
Sooo.
ignoring the long dash of the imperials and we stick to the Tau Ceti and the federation.
2412 (founding of Lave) - 2151 (founding of Tau Ceti) give us 261 years to play with.
and with 115ly the feds were colonising half a light-year per year(?)
2296 (first mention of Raxxla) - 2151 (founding of Tau Ceti ) gives us 145 years to play with, and going off the half a light year colonizing speed.
The feds had stretched out roughly 75ly from Sol.

So going back to listening for mysterious whispers in witchspace, or looking out for a squiggly green star ( which I spotted near Helios once) on that "odyssey"
I dusted off my old bookmarks from previously in the year...or was it last year? They appear to be incomplete going off my numbering scheme.

OD01 - The planet Trojan in Eta Cassiopeiae (20 ly to Sol) : Curiously enough we also have a planet called ROCK and another called BETWEEN. The stone at delphi was at the center, the middle - one might say in-between something.

and my next entry is
OD04 - Scythia, the cyclops. (169 ly from Sol outside the core-words and well outside the 75ly prediction of the feds colonization)

OD05 Aoelus (65ly from Sol)

(another gap?)
OD07 Circe - The nymfs (47ly from Sol)

Ah and here I have that issue of Most names in ancient myths and stories have a star named after them
So at joint OD08
OD08 Hecate The underworld - 75ly from sol

OD08 Perspherone - underworld (110 ly from Sol)

oh and try to forget that cutey 3 head dog Cerebus guarding the underworld, that's Hercules and not Odysseus...which like the River Styxx (45 ly from Sol)
https://eddb.io/system/17170 is also another greek myth but is outside of Homers Odyssey (I'm not 100% sure of that though not having READ the damned thing)
I Think this is when I stopped charting this thing, and started listening to Stephen fry's heroes....omg...it really was 2 years ago I made this list.

OD08 Thanatos (deaths door) (also 110ly from sol)

OD09 Siren (82ly from Sol)

OD10 Scylla (82ly from sol) big monster on land, and the whirlpool in the sea (having to navigate through the middle)

OD11 Helios (54 ly from sol)

Finally coming home to
OD14 Ithaca ( 46 ly from sol )

So it's incomplete and my understanding of Homers work is rusty at best. I must have made notes in a google doc somewhere that explained my logic to myself somewhere,

Oh and just to really mess with everyone.
the brothers Neptune Ryder and Oberon Ryder, can be found referenced in Sol System, The planet Neptune and Uranus's moon Oberon.
The half-way point between those two bodies(?) well can't be neptuns moon triton can it? although hiding behind that permit lock would explain raxxla still being undiscovered.
Oh and Perspherone is the name of a small planetoid orbiting the Sun and of course there has to be installation called Delphi Control Chapter.

Oh yes it was! Han_Zen knows his lore, even though most of it has been retconned.
Formidine Rift was mentioned by at least three of the Elite authors, Drew Wagar, Allen Stroud and John Harper. Which indicates it was a thing defined by FD and was in the “authors’ pack” which they all received, but clearly FD hadn’t explicitly defined at that time where it was.

Allen Stroud “Elite: Lave Revolution” ch 17
“Traffic from Reorte is constant,’ Cassom said, manipulating the view to focus on Lave. ‘This appears to be the main trade route. Import/export from Orrere tends to be sporadic and mostly illegal. Reorte to Riedquat is another used trade lane, but local pilots talk about problems in the Formidine Rift; something to do with an unchartable area of space and ships going missing.”

Mmm, think I’ve been ninjad, but gotta walk the copawlot so no time tom finish catching up on the thread...

So I've been out of the loop for awhile....but I was just thinking, with the new Odyssey update they said that they're not focusing on ship interior but on station interiors. Maybe they are focused on stations because the interior of The Dark Wheel station will be one of the bigger discoveries, not sure if I am making sense because its 4am for me....but was just a thought

New (?) left field idea. (inspired by last night's Frontier live stream)

Arthur stated (and it's never been hidden, but I don't think so openly acknowledged either) that "having a dev account I can move the ship where I need to be" (
Source: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/743888388
time 29:45).

Is Raxxla this ability? To be able to go to wherever in the Galaxy you need / want to be? I think this might be the best 'superpower' in the game we could wish for.

Still doesn't help answer how we get it / where we find it, but intriguing to think about.

No, I don't think so. What you say implies to me at least that if a player (not a dev or CM) would gain access to FDev testing area's and have access to as yet unreleased content being tested. Why would FDev hint at such an ability being in game and accessible and then never ever letting the player get it. Good theory, but I don't think so.
