Sorry.
Has it already been considered that Raxxla is an abreviutra of the first letters of the name of something?
R....A....X....X....L....A....
(Really, I can't understand why there are only six letters instead of eight.)
I have been long suspected the six letter thing to mean something. I tried different combinations, but i deleted all that posts to prevent confusion in new comers unbended minds. I got another shot going on right now, if i cant find something with that, i will abandon this idea. And attention to R A X X L A --- P A R A L L A X

There are only six directions. 😉

How I imagined you saying this.

Nah... he clearly says "get invited to join a secret organization" and if you don't get the invite "maybe I shouldn't have shot that cop"....

But hey, they might have changed the whole approach to these mysteries... we'll never know for sure unitl it happends to someone.

Funny we haven't heard of anyone getting such invitation just yet... even after all these years...

I think this referred to engineers, in hindsight

Kind of agree that Engineers are one 'version' of how this played out but yes the original does refer to 'shooting that cop' so there was something else in mind as well. Problem is we never know if it got changed or morphed into something else or got dropped as unworkable. Its hard not to think Dark Wheel when he said it but DB does like his cabals of men in dark rooms running the galaxy so it could be something else.

Hes basically describing 'reputation' with someone, so it is in game but maybe not as intended, or maybe not fleshed out enough yet, or maybe they wanted to get the game to a certain stage before introducing it....like legs first then this storyline. A lot of the early stuff was how it was imagined in DB head, which may have morphed into something else actually in game. Sometimes wish we could ask DB some detailed Qs about what was and what is and what morphed into what and what got dropped and how he sees the game now, how complete is it? How close is it to the original vision etc?

Indeed. I find it strange and a bit disappointing that hasn’t happened yet. I can’t see that anyone getting DW membership would keep it quiet.

I hypothesised that Felicity Farseer is a DW member, which might be hinted by her Codex quote about them. It also ties in with “Whisperer in Witchspace” since she’s an expert fsd engineer together with Elvira, but Elite Premonition makes it clear that Elvira was an assassin (doesn’t match DW membership qualities) and is a supporter of The Club, so maybe the two reflect Club versus Dark Wheel. Felicity’s engineering comments mention she went to the Coalsack Nebula in her engineered Asp Explorer, and she talks about crossing dangerous rifts with pilot courage being the only limitation, phrasing that is reminiscent of the Dark Wheel membership requirements ( Codex entry “only a handful of the bravest and most competent pilots of each generation are honoured with an invitation to join”). Googling Coalsack Nebula it’s clear that it is just one part of the Great Rift, also called Dark Rift or Dark River, wording which also seems to hint at the Dark Wheel. So I went off in my Phantom and did a week of exploration in all parts of the Great Rift, and sold the data at the UC outlet at Felicity’s base, but no invitation so far.

Edit: it might be that an AspX is needed for this test and a Phantom didn’t count. Perhaps someone else wants to check it. Not sure I want to repeat the expedition with second account, almost all systems had been discovered (only got one on the whole trip) & had to remap WW, AW & terraformable HMCs that had already been visited.

Well, I am out near Coalsack right now (for loose conceptions of "near"). In my Asp. Sigh.

Booo, another hunter of Thargs. I hope they do hold the keys to Raxxla and you dont get a ticket coz you shot their Tharg cops the other day :)

Unless you meant hitting as 'finding' in which case, yeah they are all over certain nebulae and regions. Not sure if anyone has done a 'range' for them to appear within.

I'm not hunting them, just seeing them everywhere. My Asp actually has no weapons on it. You guys always send me to the best spots.

It's not quite clear about the murders. After all, someone did kill Ryder in the book, and it seems from what he learned about Raxxla ....
By the way about the engineers, for some reason the engineers are somehow linked into different groups, i.e. some give invitations only to others ....

I thought this too but recently after the Liz Ryder affair they all got together and agreed to be more useful to the Cmdrs so not sure they are as disconnected as they appear. And certainly implies they all have the same goal in mind.

Some are Club (Elvira & Turner iirc), some or at least one should be DW really, some may be independent or have another alliance, but it may be being overwritten or cast aside as we speak. Wouldnt be the first time established lore took a back seat to a storyline or new idea.

I know Drew wrote the Elvira in-game text, and some other authors wrote some of the others, but I dont know when.
