I noticed the void and some regions around there lack heat signatures and poi discoveries,
You can see a big difference in explored areas, there is also allot of circular areas that are actually locked systems, what has got me curious is the bottom of the sanguinious region and keplers crest, that split in between, maybe thats the omphalos rift? I plan on visiting it soon, thank god i have a carrier! But there is also established permanent dssa carriers established all over the galaxy, the map has a filter for it, that makes exploring very simple! As for the dyson sphere theory i think its in no way a clue, why? Because its not telling you where raxxla is, you won't know what it looks like to similarly quote ed, you will find it and be stunned yes but its not a clue to its location, if you seen a dyson sphere in elite you would loose your mind! Also no one seems to talk about the darkwheel logo? I think the raxlaa logo is hope, wanting a clue, to me its a coriolis infront of a star, but what would i know? I haven't seen raxxla. We need to pull away from the whole dyson thing and stick with the word facts, but the image could mean its behind a sun, light being cast around the object, the question is are the light rays dark or light? Negative or positive format? Which would indicate its obscured from the light source with something between it and the sun or its hidden behind a sun and that sun is projecting rays around the object, its tough to understand.

If you look at the code by sector (tabs galaxy-regions), at least I do. The Guardians and Targoids are mostly from the center and down.
And the Guardians have a lot of sectors and there is even one near the center and it is in the gap for some reason (Impyrean Stairs).
One sector where there are both Guardians and Targoids (Inner Orion Spur).
and 1 sector below with only Targoids (Sanguineous Rim).
I.e. Targoids only have 2 sectors...

Dark Wheel station could be the key to finding Raxxla

The way I see it

  • Raxxla is confirmed to be in the game
  • We are having trouble to find Raxxla directly because Dark Wheel finally found it and hid it from everyone 'not worthy' (speculation)
  • If Raxxla is inside permit locked system, could Dark Wheel be the ones that can issue the permit?
So, finding Dark Wheel station may be the first and most important step in fulfilling necessary attunement to enter/use Raxxla (whatever that turns out to be).

Some important observations

  • Frontier clearly wants us to find this station. Quote from Codex: "...this starport is still in use, and is the only means whereby the genuine Dark Wheel can verify its identity; new inductees can examine the record and artefacts preserved there, and thus satisfy themselves that the group has indeed been operating for centuries."
  • Frontier said that there will be no clues besides what's written in the Codex, which would imply that there will be no false leads either (common sense)
  • Another quote from Dark Wheel Codex entry: "...the original group was based in a disused starport orbiting the eighth moon of an unnamed gas giant. The station was toroid, hence 'wheel', and operated with a minimal power output so as to avoid detection, hence 'dark'."
Therefore, the image of Dark Wheel station in Codex is the most important visual clue which I'm basing my research on.

What I did

I've been using a list of all 8th moons that are orbiting gas giants (up to 500 Ly from Sol, but Delphi may be better choice) which was compiled by CMDR Fartlily by pulling large amounts of data from EDSM json files and filtered to show only said bodies (8th moons). There are 5031 moons that satisfy this criteria, but after I started to check them out and compare them to Codex image I've noticed that:

a) moons are too far away from the star

or

b) star is just too small to match the Codex image perfectly

Naturally, I started to think how to narrow the search pattern even further and decided to check moons only orbiting first gas giant in the system. There was one moon at 684 Ls distance from main star (closest I could find so far), but the moon was still too distant and nothing like Codex image.
Next, I filtered map with only M and T-type stars for which I believe are only types that match the Codex image. And finally, I decided to skip populated systems simply because there is no way such secretive faction would risk being detected due to random traffic.

I approached every moon that matched my criteria with my ship and went full circle around it looking carefully for very faint station light, but inside 200 Ly area I found nothing so far. I will keep looking, but that list definitely needs more refinement so I contacted author to see if he can help any further.

Finally, to sum it up, these are my guidelines for finding the right 8th moon of a gas giant with Dark Wheel station in its orbit:

  • It's in a system with M or T-type star
  • Moon is orbiting first or possibly second gas giant
  • System is unpopulated

It is just theorycraft so feel free to correct me or make a suggestion.

Great analysis actually, i came up with similar but how did you go with these leads? Im just starting to follow the journey to find the dark wheel and raxxla but your notations make a great help! Thanks

My question would be- are these names in game hand placed by FDev or are they result of an algorithm that compounds names and groups them together based on their connections to one another? For example the redudancy of a planet named Kore in the system Persephone.

Another thing Ive been thinking about is what if The Dark Wheel station can only be found by dropping out of supercruise? We already know there is code in the game so when you drop out of SC for example to a Nav Beacon, a bunch of ships appear. As a result in addition to flying around the 8th moon of every gas giant I find, I also drop out of SC and hang out for a few minutes and check radar/contacts just in case. If the station is truly low power and hand placed by FDev there is no reason to assume it will glow like other stations, or even show up in SC.
Id say some is random gen, example the names 9f some of the contractors in stations, like the job killing john f kennedy... awkward...

Yeah I used to have the Nvidia equivalent of that setup (it may even still be, I should check). Had the same issue with remembering to turn it off at the right time so it doesnt overwrite though.
I used to use Nvidia ShadowPlay. It was good software which turned into unreliable bloatware. Every update stopped it saving video & usually took me a day or so to resolve. In the end I ditched it and after trying a couple of different apps I settled on the Windows Gamebar. Already in Windows10 and pretty reliable. The only thing I’d complain about is that there seems to be limited choice over the key combinations to control it .

Have y'all seen this?
Anyone have further information on this or got the same encrypted message?

Reddit seems to have a good grasp on it and some very relevant questions...looks like a hoax atm. In addition to Reddit qs about the voice priority etc and analysis the voice sounds nothing like the UCB ones, not in the same rhythm, pronunciation of phonetics, or voice...it sounds 'amateur'. The numbers arent read in the same way either.

Dunno why he went to all the trouble of getting that code to crack it, this website does it in 1 second without any key or text solved, just click Word Divisions - No and 'Computer Take It From Here'.

Then theres the 'acting' in the video, no surprise or anything even though this should be the 'proof' video on reproduction, Id be chuffed to bits I caught it on camera and it would show in my voice.

If he didnt record it the first time how the hell did he keep up with that text to get it written down and solved when he shouldn't have been ready for it at all?

So on the basis that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence....imo that evidence doesnt meet the bar yet, if someone else replicates or GalNet reports we will know, and mean Frontier have gone off the 'standard' message format and delivery methods they have used in every case so far, but so far to me, not ringing true. Good attempt though if hoax, short and sweet not full of self-gratitude and self-praise and 'worship me' that usually drives the hoaxer.

TLDR: 4/10

Well there seems to be a whole lot of nothing going on in Seagull Nebula. No Thargoid activity that I can see. Tried my hand at seeing if Trinkets were still dropping as part of cargo loads at the Nav Beacon at Hell Port (still can't get used to there being stations, let alone fleet carriers, everywhere these days) where they had been reported, and quickly remembered how crap I am at combat. Fitted out a Krait as best as I could there, and still got shot up, down to 40% hull and no shields by a wing of two wanted competent pirate Adders before I managed to jump away, having achieved nothing other than another blow to my ego. Sold the Krait and am back in the Asp, and have a route around the back of Barnard's Loop/Horsehead Nebula into the Orion Dark Region, so am off there after a quick trip to Thor's Helmet. Hopefully we won't need to be Elite in combat (or trading) to find Raxxla. I find with combat there are two poles to the spectrum - boring tedium of easy kills in low risk zones, or quickly getting killed by taking on the next level up. If we do need it I guess I will eventually have to figure out a way to git gud, likely by the first route.

re that video

includes a link to another Reddit with the full story.

Long story short, a friend did it as an in-game story for their squad and one didnt realise and thought it was real. So its an 'innocent' hoax / RP meant for a few people only. Good idea, well executed but not intended to appear on Reddit as a genuine mystery. Kudos to the originator for being honest as soon as they realised what had happened.

@Jorki strange that a lot of the documents linked on that "Independent" Raxxla Hunters Discord are from the Children of Raxxla... I smell another conspiracy!

I think independent in that context just means anyone can join, no need for allegiance to any one faction.

CoR have a long history which Ill get wrong somewhere or miss something important out so will leave to someone else :)

I know, I was among the first members. Until I was thrown off their Discord for the crime of not being active enough (in their view), along with some other folks who had contributed quite a bit to their efforts. Another long history, which is not worth exploring, and just confirmed my distaste for player groups/factions and their internal and external politics and power grabs, and special treatment by FD. Moral of the story, trust no one, particularly if they claim to be "Independent".

PS None of us remember the details any more anyways, as FDev had us all hexedited.

I pretty much lost my sense of smell at age 9 when a childhood “friend” threw a rock at my head! 🤥

There is some dubious stuff and folk to be found everywhere! I judge by behaviour and some of the guys there were very helpful in proving the “green glows in Sol” was a graphics glitch

Excuse me, what's so special about green giants? Why do they stand out on the map?

Rarity for a Jolly Green Gas Giant. If you see one you'll know, they have luminous stripes or patterns.

They were originally a mistake in the Stellar Forge and iirc some were different colours but they removed / fixed most of them but a few green ones left in coz they are cool :) Apparently not one found in every Sector so far so atm the last chance to get name in Codex if you find one in a new Sector.

Theres a thread that keeps track of them but iirc something like only 30 found so far.

So, nothing doing at Thor's Helmet, Orion Dark Region, Barnard's Loop Sector, Messier 78, or Flame Nebula area as far as I can tell. Same sectors are still locked (Horsehead Dark Region, NGC 2264, and Col 70). Tomorrow, or maybe later tonight, will check out Running Man and Orion and eventually California and Witch Head. Took some neat screenshots of BL/Orion et al from different perspectives from "behind", or spinward, which I will compare at some point to the Thargoid logos. At first glance, some look similar, some don't, some have some very interesting differences. I also may have gained an insight into why Thargoid ships look the way they do (the blossoming flower and petals etc etc.) but I will save that theory for after I sort out screenshots and can post an image. One final comment though - if it is Barnard's Loop/Horsehead/Orion etc. being represented in the logos, it is likely as viewed from coreward, because as viewed from spinward, except from a few more distant perspectives, you seem to almost always have the band of the Milky Way and its bright lights cutting across it. Also, you often have the Lesser and Greater Magellanic Clouds in the same view as well. Anyways, that's enough space madness for now.

I thought the independent Raxxla hunters were just a Discord.
The CoR documets are probably only those that CoR have published.

The center of the Thargoid logo is most likely Barnards loop as seen from Cone nebula or perhaps even the cone nebula itself, possible the outside of the logos corespond to the location view of the cone nebula from where each "faction" "Clan" or most likely Hive of that thargoid calls a somewhat home, possible in certain parts of NGC 2264
