Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It's a good job the buildings don't take damage when we do that, we could end up with
Mission reward 325,000 credits.
Bill for damages to Settlement 25,000,000 credits.
It would be fun walking aound the ruins of your destruction though. I actually renamed my Chieftain "Santanico Pandemonium". Mind you, there'd be no mats left to harvest so maybe not the best thing... :D

Did a power restore with scavs to take out. Think I may be getting the hang of combat - it needed a tweak to the binds which, while seemingly minor, made all the difference. Anyway, half-way through, the game crashed. Ergo, all lockers were empty and there was no data on any drive. It had four HAB's too which, apparently, are great for OP's.

Sucked it up and handed in the mission. Hopefully, there'll be another one there soon.

Well, that's the Corvette pretty much sorted.
Now, do I keep the greedy SLF crew or not?
If I'm doing wing assassination missions, probably.
If we get a bounty CG, she's back to the job centre.:D
If you need the money sack her before claiming the rewards that way you just pay the hiring costs, if it’s just the XP you are after then if you are making any progress ranking her up to the point of being useful then just leave her in the bar, you still pay her but she doesn’t steal your XP.

Ouch! I managed 160 tonnes in one hour and that wasn’t even trying!

Ah, like everything else in Elite Dangerous, you have to be prepared to do out-of-game research to optimise. Google yourself a double hotspot, be prepared to travel a few hundred ly to get to it, make sure you have enough collectors to keep up with your laser, don't bother with multiple lasers in a medium or small ship, use a grade A prospector, have one of every type of mining tool in case you find a core or deep bore - with all the research, mining can become very fast and efficient.

But if you go looking for hotspots yourself, have more lasers than you can power, only 1 collector, a cheap or nonexistant prospector and no ability to deal with core/deep bore, then it's many hours for very little income.

This reminds me I once encountered a very cool installer program, keep prompting me to close the installer itself to proceed with the installation!!!
Found it from my archives!

.net 3.5 sp1 installer asking .net 3.5 sp1 installer to be closed to proceed.

Granted I did search for a hotspot and found one around 130ly away from Dulos. So only a single hotspot yet still managed to grab 160 tonnes in less than an hour as I got bored so decided to try some core mining for Alexendrite and such

I don't often go mining, but when I do, I go "mixed mode" and accept what I find. Sometimes it's a painite rock, other times it's got osmium deep bores or surface deposits, or maybe even a platinum core. It's a lot less boring than buzzing around for ages trying to find that one core asteroid because today is <insert mineral> or bust! 😸

End of first week as a CMDR...

Haven't died recently, which is a plus
Got rid of the Sidewinder and replaced with a bog standard Hauler.
Made ~80 Mil exploring and upgraded to an ASP Explorer (About an hour ago) Again, bog standard.

Unlocked 2 Engineers and now have to figure out how to get materials - Mining?

Still a nasty smell of N00b in the cockpit, but things are improving.
I can now fuel scoop faster than I can honk the system :)

Stay tuned o7
Did another stack of bounty hunting.
And just to mix things up a bit, I took a 'wetwork' mission.:poop:
It was rubbish.

So I abandoned it, swapped over to the Tanya Wu account and started pulling Belugas out of supercruise. Because... reasons.
Felt much better.:devilish:
Where did you purchase the Hauler? I'm in the bubble. Will have 300k credits when you read this and I need a ship more capable than the Sidewinder. I will consider the Hauler or Adder with my current amount of credits. Thanks for any help.

Others are better experienced than me for advice, but if you take a look at EDDB and enter your current system, it will show you the nearest available system that has what you want.

If you can, try for a Cobra MK III instead. It is much more of an all-rounder and great for any discipline - just not all at the same time.

Had my first go in a Combat Zone this evening. We won the first one, but I had me winders blown out on the second go. Took me a couple of minutes of oxygen to orientate myself with the nearest station, seeing as I had no targeting. Managed to get to safety with a couple of minutes spare oxygen.
Strange how you can SC with no canopy. A passing Cmdr could have mistaken me for Wallace!

I am old fashioned so like to stick to the advice of always having 3 times the purchase price available when you buy a new ship, which would suggest you should wait until you have about a million credits before going for the Cobra.

With a good enough life support or access to the synthesis materials you can even jump to another system.

The first time it happened to me I made the mistake of heading to an outpost, I was a couple of metres above the pad when the life support ran out if it had been a station I would have been fine as soon as I got through the slot and into atmosphere.

upgrading my Krait mk2 with a few more rolls to the shields, guns, dibs and all that guff.that if of course horizons stop giving me orange sidewinders everytime i leave leu chang outpost.finally manage to get out of lei chang outpost by manual boost up to the ofc line on hud, then hitting the jump button. (do it before that and your get sidewinder error) and when you reload you get a nasty drop/bump back into ground.

now need to look for more Grindy stuff.:)

Messing around with graphics settings to see if I could improve performance... 48 fps on a surface, in external view. This used to be more like 20-25 😸

The magic setting was this...

But I don't really know what it does.

I also got multiple CTDs after this, but I think that's because I've been undervolting my graphics card 😹 I will sneak the volts up a bit and see if it stabilises. Side note; I've noticed that in space I get 60fps with tiny percentages of GPU utilisation... planetary surface, maxed out.

Also I randomly discovered the West Leeds Yacht Club, a player faction that sounds like it might be based in my neck of the woods... Or it could be Leeds, Alabama, near Birmingham, Alambama. Because America never was great at coming up with names 😼
