Makes you wonder what the vehicle schematics are for.
The Buckyballers are a bunch of skilled madmen. I like it.RE: SRV racing:
Had to dig a bit in the Events section, but found a couple past events:
Community Event / Creation - The Buckyball Racing Club presents: The Lavecon Lockdown Challenge
For the second year running Coronavirus restrictions in the UK have meant that the annual "Lavecon" fan convention has had to be cancelled in its live form and moved to an online format. The good news is this means that the Buckyball race for the event has once again moved out of the LAN room...forums.frontier.co.uk
The Cortes Base drag strip challenge: another standing SRV time trial from the Buckyball Racing Club
Feast your eyes on that location folks! If ever there was a planetary base begging to be the home of an SRV challenge then Cortes Base in the Ross 1047 system has to be it! (I would like to thank Cmdrs graememk and DeadMeatGF of Hutton Orbital's operation HOT MESS for bringing this location to...forums.frontier.co.uk
And if you really, I mean REALLY, love driving the SRV, then there's:
The Planetary Circumnavigation Club
Having just completed my own circumnavigation of a small moon in an SRV I decided to do a little bit of research and have come across enough other people crazy enough to perform this right of passage that I thought I'd create a new thread to celebrate their achievements. If you too have driven...forums.frontier.co.uk
It can be hard if you drive at unsafe speeds, that is right.I've never like being in the SRV. It always made me sick to my stomach.
Since getting my RTX 3060 Ti and being able to run the game maxed out with solid frame rates it's not nearly as bad, but it still gets me a bit on really hilly / rocky planets.
I find that getting it right, for me, means using the pitch axis on the joystick as the throttle, with yaw axis for steering and roll for roll...flying the Scarab is much better than just driving it...It can be hard if you drive at unsafe speeds, that is right.
It can be a lot of fun if you get it right, though...
Did anyone ever attempt to do some SRV racing, I wonder?
Well at least that won’t land you at the rebuy screen.Luckily, this didn't happen to me yet. But I more than once woke up to the sounds of my ship rapidly speeding up while approaching a station/planet in SC... Fell asleep right in the moment when I wanted to activate the SCA...
This time, though, I fell asleep in the forums.![]()
There is a racing type challenge from one of the other racing groups in the game, it involves departing from a station dock flying a figure 8 type route through and round the station and getting back into the dock.A different experience for everyone, even with supposedly standardized features. I'm loving it.
Quite at the beginning of my journey, I had a situation where it seemed like the computer would attempt to do that. Scared the crap out of me - just had tried this once before, flying manually around the station, which rotated way too fast for my flying skills...![]()
You may be overestimating their sanity. The Buckyballers are a bunch of skilled madmen. I like it.
I am in some awe of those that can do this as my skills with an SRV and patience with driving are too limited for the task.Though, circumnavigating a stellar body might at this point of time a more suitable pasttime...
Get thee to stellar screenshots! (with the full size image so I nick itThe Explorer's Life

Having raced quite a few racing games (mostly arcade) over the years - even the (as far as I know) first RacingMMO - and a long-time player of space-related MMOs, combining those two genres would be a drem come true.SRV racing has been a big thing in Elite: Dangerous for a very long time and something I'm especially interesting in.
Well, as I am limited to 3.8 myself, this suits me quite well. But, being quite fresh to the game, I will need some more training to be able to compete.I should also point out that all the existing SRV time trial challenges we've mentioned are Horizons 2.8 only (where, imho, SRV racing is stil a superior experience).

You won't believe what some people can do in an SRV. The Buckyball folks are always pushing the limits of racing them, too.Kind of a bummer, as I enjoy cruising around in it.

Recent? (possibly an Odyssey mountain climb) or older?I remember a video of an SRV doing a seemingly impossible set of jumps up mountains. It was, honestly, quite something to watch. I'll have to see if I can find it.
Like traveling between two moons in an SRV where the second moon is permit locked. But you land your SRV anyway. You won't believe what some people can do in an SRV. The Buckyball folks are always pushing the limits of racing them, too.
I just kinda mosey along in mine.
Edit. Ninja'd mostly
