$80? Wow....

No, he meant that you basically pay 45 $ for playing the game early because the other 30 $ are just the price of the game. But early bird package still costs 75 $.

Which is pretty ludicrous. If it was an extra $10, then OK yeah. But an extra $45 to be an Alpha/Beta tester is taking the biscuit, the butter, the wine and another AAA PC game. [woah]

No one is forcing you to buy Early Access, if you think it is too expensive, then wait until final release. It just depends how eager you are to be able to play the game. Yes it isn't cheap, compared to the final release, but imho worth it!

That is the key point I believe is being missed Coasterbuff.

It's great that people are so very keen to get the game that they want to buy early access but;
No-one is forcing anyone to buy it, no-one says it should be 'x' value and FDev didn't HAVE to offer it.
At the end of the day it is an optional purchase, not something we are all entitled to receive.

And just because it's being publicly available doesn't mean it's a finished game! If you're dying to get your hands on it, be prepared for the worst. Bugs. Little content etc.. Things will only get better by time, but it's far from finished yet.

I'm not missing the point, not even by a little bit. I know I'm not being forced to buy it, but I'd like to, and I think so would pretty much everyone, they'd love to alpha and beta test, but $45 extra will push people away from doing so.

True, nobody is forcing you to buy it, but you can't sit there and think that $80 is fair when a alpha beta cost more than the actual game.

Yeah, that is pretty crazy...But I don't mind paying a little extra if it means that the final product will be that much better and might include more content than they originally planned.

Value is subjective, it's not a question of whether the cost fair or justified.
All we can do here is voice our opinion.

At any price there will be people willing to buy, and people unwilling to buy. If Frontier are getting a reasonable uptake at the price they've chosen, good on them. They are not morally obliged to sell at a lower price just because there are always people unwilling to pay the chosen price, by that logic everything in the world would end up being free...?!

Based on the enthusiastic uptake on this forum, it sounds like they've priced it quite well, especially given that MANY people here have willingly handed over extra money to get "extras". And Frontier are getting market feedback early, so that they can plan a sales and development strategy for the coming 2-3 years. Our enthusiasm and willingness to pay more will help them choose how to price DLC, expansion packs, etc. The more we appear to value the game, especially this early, the lower their risk in assigning expensive resources to expand the game for us. If they halved the price, they might sell more units sooner but the risk (of investing in further development) is higher, so we would all lose out on future excellent extensions to the game.

HOWEVER: many passionate players simply cannot afford to pay more (the very young and the very old, it seems). I get that.

To be fair, Frontier have not ignored that fact either. Frontier have segmented their offer so that if you only want to pay $30, you can, and if you are willing to pay over $100, you can do that too. You can even pay $500, if you like. Obviously the people paying more want a little something extra in return for paying the premium. Early access, Coaster Head etc are very smart ways to segment the community, so that many more people can pay what THEY think it's worth. Those of you who only want to pay $30 could be grateful that others are willing to top up Frontier's early returns by paying more, and not begrudge the small incremental benefit those people receive from all that extra money.

To those who have paid many hundreds of dollars for the extras, I say THANK YOU for helping to contribute to early returns on investment and show Frontier that collectively we are a valuable market for this excellent game. To Frontier I say THANK YOU for segmenting the offers so that each of us can pay as much or as little as we can afford. To those of you willing to wait for release, and even those who will wait until the price drops after release; THANK YOU TOO for being vocal about it, because you will provide the ongoing revenue that will keep Frontier investing in the game, so that we all benefit, and it's good for us all that Frontier can hear your voices on this forum.

As a community, if we maximize the value of the game to Frontier (good, solid revenue stream), they will maximize the value of the game to us (good, solid features). I trust these guys not to "take our money and run". They are building a great game with great passion, and if we keep supporting them they will keep doing that.

Wel spoken and very wel explained chapeau [up]

i could think of, that the price will be lowered every month, maybe to "buy in" in june only costs you 25$ or some...

I'm just gonna have to wait and hear opinions, if I like what I hear, ill get early access.

Me too, I normally didn't spend that much, but the team seem so much excited when they talk about the game that they convince me. Maybe that the game will dissapoint me, but I don't think so, so I spent 75$US on this game and I'm happy with it because I've the feeling to contribute to the game I want.

Such a Great Wall of text! You're 100% right! [up][yesnod]

Coaster Head v. Early Access,

Talk about a rip off here, sorry if this is already posted, but I was gonna pre-order the early bird to be able to play in the alpha, but for $80 is just way too much for game+beta access. Do you get something else, other than beta access I don't know about?

In my opinion, if you spend $76 + shipping just to have access to extra pictures and videos, and receive a t shirt and a wristband, you're crazy. Apparently I am crazy. I purchased this in the hopes of them changing it so that coaster head members would get early access (at least earlier than official release) too. i don't really understand. Either you can order early access to the game but no early access forums for ~$75, or you can get a tshirt, a wristband, and access to early access forums, but NO early access to the game for ~$75. Why? I want early access to the game, forum access, a tshirt, AND a wristband. But if I want early access I have to pay a total of >$150? I feel like somebody messed up the pricing scale. Why no early access for coaster head club? Wouldn't a true coaster head want early access AND all that stuff? :/

I am with Jamesviago. He explained everything in plain English. Whatever you can afford or whatever you are prepared to spend towards the development of this game, is going to relate to its future development. I am a pensioner, I don't buy lots of games like many of you on here probably do, because I couldn't afford to do so and I only spend money on games that I really have an interest in.

I have always had a passion for Funfairs or Theme Parks, as they are better known these days, since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I have all three RCT games and still use RCT3. So I decided to put some of my hard earned pension into opting for the Early Release, of Planet Coaster, because I think it's worth it, to be able to have the chance to play the game from the start, as well as knowing, that what I have paid, is helping Frontier, develop a better game that will be ongoing for quite a few years to come. In fact it will probably outlive me.

Before I found out about Planet Coaster, I had pre-ordered RCTW. I couldn't really afford to spend out on two games, so I made the decision to cancel RCTW and invest my money on the Early Access for Planet Coaster and, I am so glad I did, for a number of reasons.

(1) I think that it is a much better looking game and attention to detail is outstanding.
(2) Frontier, are communicating and listening to their potential customers, on a regular basis, which is good.
(3) Most importantly, Frontier are creating this game with such passion, enthusiasm, and dedication, and creating new features to make the game even more enjoyable than previous titles of the genre.

So no matter what you can afford, or are prepared to spend towards the development of this game, at least we know that it is going to be a great game, that will be even greater, for the future and will probably still be around for many years to come.
