I was under the impression that famine and outbreak are the invitable consequence of doing nothing, as in all factions will go into those states unless they receive some medical or foodstuff input occasionally - either by trade or missions
Yep - it was on the last BGS livestream. There are small drifts towards these states in systems with no transaction traffic. This is why the systems that usually go into outbreak/famine have tiny populations - there's a lot less traffic because they don't really work as trade nodes.
I thought that if Faction A is in a war state in one system, Faction A inf can't go up in other systems. Today at the second tick in War state, Faction A inf went up in another system (state = none), but down in every other system they are in (as expected).
Is it possible that:
1. Faction A inf can go up in other systems, but only by combat missions/actions as in the system they are actually at war at.
2. Faction A inf can go up if, somehow, all other factions inf should have gone down.
Of note, the CZ's spawned and later disappeared during the first tick. Now, after today's tick, the CZ's are back exactly where they were before they disappeared yesterday. [wacky]
I thought that the inf lock only occurred in the system at war. As a matter of fact, I'm almost positive that that is the case.

I think there is some confusion here. There is no 'inf lock' in the system at war, other than the two factions involved only take inf from each other (other than BGS rounding/100% changes).yep.
i bet it is a combination of A) and B) @Abil

I'm afraid that's not been the case since 2.0 (I think - it might be later). If another faction does rather well during the war it can take influence from the warring factions. The assumption is that, if enough effort is put into the war, they can take influence from the others.I think there is some confusion here. Tick completed after 21:00 today. The new factions and bases have been installed in Colonia.
Well, BMs accept any stolen good, right? So you get hold of a bunch of stolen biowaste and go dump it on the BM. I think when 1T trading was still the deal, it was used pretty effectively as an offensive BGS attack. Not sure how well it would work now.
Oh! You mean how would it work in real life? LOL
we dropped 200,000 tonnes of biowaste on a station last saturday night for giggles as outbreak makes you rich through trade and missions and it didn't put them in pending outbreak (small population). there was no blocking state like war/election. we were mighty disappointed.
These two statements don't seem to go together. Do you mean both can happen? One of two factions at war can 'do well' in their war effort and take inf from the non warring factions. And. That other factions not at war can 'do well' and take inf from the warring factions?... If another faction does rather well during the war it can take influence from the warring factions. The assumption is that, if enough effort is put into the war, they can take influence from the others..
Hello.
What are the major causes of famine and out break?
I'm working on trying to rid the galaxy of these states on cuppa at a time.
I know this is wrong so don't hit me.
But I had this notion that outbreak follows trade around, and that trading with a diseased system would spread the outbreak.
I thought I had a confirmation the other day. A few of us had been out to the Mahon fungal farm and unloaded the exploration data into a system. And there in the news was something about absidia and https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mucormycosis but no outbreak pending.
But it's rubbish of course.

I think it has a head start.Nice. So does that mean utopia is about to go to hell in a handbasket?![]()
Yes, although I'm not so sure about the warring factions taking a raise - I haven't been in a system at war where there's been enough support effort put in - but logic(!) suggests that it should happen. I think it's down to the updated balancing regime. These two statements don't seem to go together. Do you mean both can happen?
