Notice ARX and Frontier Points Conversion

Will these Arx be purchasable through Steam?

I'm sure FDEV will be along to clarify but...

Steam users currently have their very own mirror of Frontier's Store from which you can purchase with your Steam Wallet funds. I would imagine this (like Frontier Store) will simply switch to offering ARX bundles which you can purchase with your Steam Wallet funds.

EDIT: Actually it seems Steam already supports the functionality for purchasing varying quantities of premium currencies as a DLC. A recent example would be RAGE 2's - RAGE Coins. I expect this will be the method employed and the store variant retired.

Covas currently costs £5 on the FDevStore.
Covas will cost 8850 Arx from next Wednesday.
The 8840 Arx costs £4.99 -- 8,400 ARX Pack (+420 bonus) = 8,820 total ARX
Earn the extra 10 Arx required by playing the game for what... 15 minutes.

That is not a price increase - COVAS has actually become cheaper by half a penny ;)
Its a price increase because they give you a bonus it not purchaseable with out that bonus... and youll need to spend the next amount to instant buy...

If I got this right, then paintjobs will have the same price but with the additional requirement of playing the game a little bit.
Which is totally unacceptable of course.
I think we need a term for this new discipline, all that fuss about fluff -> fluffuss or so...
:ROFLMAO:

By simply engaging with those activities, as you would normally (such as exploring a new system, hauling cargo or destroying other ships), you will receive a number of ARX.
Is the grind search for engineering and synthesis materials included in the awarded activities ?
This is another, time consuming activity ... and taken into account the state of the HGE spawning mechanism, it can often lead to long periods of jumping around, seemingly without real activity and then occasionally gathering ...

Also, mostly with combat - is the difficulty of the encounter taken into account ?
There is a very big difference between destroing Hydra interceptor solo and killing novice sidewinder ...

ARX PACKS
It seems there has been some confusion regarding the number of ARX in a pack, specifically if that bonus is included in or added to the displayed amount.
The bonus is always added on top of the base ARX in a pack. We've added the Total ARX included in each pack for you here:
  • 5000 ARX Pack
  • 8,400 ARX Pack (+420 bonus) = 8,820 total ARX
  • 16,800 ARX Pack (+900 bonus) = 17,700 total ARX
  • 25,500 ARX Pack (+1,300 bonus) = 26,800 total ARX
  • 51,000 ARX Pack (+3,000 bonus) = 54,000 total ARX
  • 85,000 ARX Pack (+15,000 bonus) = 100,000 total ARX

So right now, £10 gets you 1000 FP, or 100FP/£
that same £10 will get 17700 Arx, or 1770Arx/£

GAME EXTRA PRICES
You can expect these prices for the following item types:
  • Decals - 50 to 150 ARX
  • Individual Fighter and SRV Paint Jobs - 460 to 3280 ARX
  • Individual Ship Paint Jobs - 620 to 5,520 ARX
  • Individual Bobbleheads – 2,450 to 6,450 ARX
  • COVAS – 8,850 ARX
  • Ship Kits (sold in Bundles) – 11,750 to 13,520 ARX
So, let's compare prices of a few examples
COVAS:
500FP/£5
8850Arx/£5 (No change in pricing, though anyone on console with an existing Frontier Point balance would have more Arx to spend on them if the plan of exchanging them at 1:20 goes ahead, so should save them to buy after)
Bobbleheads:
300FP/£3
2450Arx/£1.40 - 6450Arx/£3.64 (seems some will be cheaper while others will be more expensive, this may also be due to being able to buy individually some bobbleheads currently included as packs)
Ship Kits:
700FP/£7 (12 piece) 800FP/£8 (16 Piece)
11750Arx/£6.64 - 13520Arx/£7.64 (Presumably 12 and 16 piece sets respectively)
Individual Paintjobs:
150FP/£1.50 - 200FP/£2
620Arx/£0.35 (Presumably for paintjobs included currently in £3 packs) - 5520Arx/£3.12 (More than the current individual paints like the pulse ones cost, some other type of paintjob not currently available?)

Hello everyone,

Firstly, thank you for all of the feedback you have shared so far!

We’ve been looking through your comments and wanted to provide some clarity on some topics of discussion:

GAME EXTRA PRICES

Some of you have understandably requested some context in the form of prices of Game Extras in ARX, so that you can get an idea of your spending power, and how much your weekly free ARX will net you. We’ve provided a list of item types below and the range of prices they will cost in ARX. There are too many products to give you an exhaustive list of prices here, but to give you some idea, here are some examples of products and price ranges:

You can expect these prices for the following item types:
  • Decals - 50 to 150 ARX
  • Individual Fighter and SRV Paint Jobs - 460 to 3280 ARX
  • Individual Ship Paint Jobs - 620 to 5,520 ARX

  • COVAS – 8,850 ARX
  • Ship Kits (sold in Bundles) – 11,750 to 13,520 ARX
As mentioned by Executive Producer Adam Woods on the livestream, some Game Extras will only be available in bundles, such as Ship Kits and Holo-Me Customisation items.

EARNING ARX WHILE PLAYING

A key pillar of ARX is the ability to earn Game Extras over time through gameplay, which has previously not been possible. When earning free ARX, every Commander will be able to quickly spend them on a variety of items or save them for later purchases.
  • We don’t want to alter the way you play Elite Dangerous; we’ve looked at common in-game actions across all the main careers or activities (such as Exploration, Trade and Combat) and ensured that those actions provide a number of ARX.
  • By simply engaging with those activities, as you would normally (such as exploring a new system, hauling cargo or destroying other ships), you will receive a number of ARX.
  • Being in-game but inactive will not reward you with ARX. It isn’t based on time spent in-game, but on the actions you take.
FRONTIER STORE DOWNTIME
  • To clarify on the Frontier Store Downtime, cosmetic items and Game Extras will not be available for purchase from 16 September at 07:00 (UTC) and will go live again once the September Update has been deployed.
Please let us know if you have any questions and we’ll do our best to answer where we can!
I like it.

See guys, nothing to panic about.

This is no more or less reasonable than any other game's MTX system.

Actually scratch that, more reasonable as we do get to earn a bit of "pocket money" for free, just by playing.

Yes, it's a price increase if you completely ignore the Arx you actually get for the purchase, and pretend to receive a smaller amount.

Also let's ignore the Arx you earn by playing, because it's well known that CMDRs who buy cosmetics naturally don't play the game.

"I'll have to play the game to get enough Arx to buy cosmetics now, this is a travesty!"

And we get to still choose the cosmetics we want, as opposed to RNG lootboxes or cosmetic-season-pass conveyor belt thingies.

Hi Will, thanks for clarifying! One question from me - will gifting store items be a thing again at some point in the future or is it gone forever once Arx is introduced?

You didn't mention mining ... is that counted among trade?

gues mining will bring double arx like it did for trade rank, cause you got to sell the stuff.

arx is good, smart move like the tuts it could be implented since long but cool to see some development

Its traditional to sell the stuff you mine.
Interested to know if you get rewarded as you mine (ie materials gathered in tonnage) or if its on a credits payment (in which case find the highest seller becomes more important) or if it's just the action of mining, or selling.

Cheers for the update Paige ! o7

People complaining clearly don't play the game lol - How can someone whine about being able to earn FREE ARX / cosmetic by simply playing the game ?

FDEV : Hey guys, thanks for playing the game. Here are some free ARX for you !
CryBaby : MOMMMMM ! THEY WANT ME TO PLAY TO GET FREE GOODIES !

CMDRs buying stuff on Frontier store are active players...so they play...so they'll earn ARX...so they'll pay cosmetics CHEAPER than before because they'll have free-earned ARX added to their ARX wallet + will be able to buy specifif paintjob (instead of pack) for cheaper.

How many paintjobs pack I bought for using only 1-2 of them...now I can buy the one and keep the extra ARX for other stuff...

There many issues with Arx that no one is talking about.

1. Due to the bundle structure, you are actually overpaying for items now. Yes, it's not as bad as the old days but this hasn't be acknowledge.

2. Cosmetics are a big deal to some people. Luckily we are not as immature as the Fortnite community but there are still people who are compulsive buyers that will be basically ripped off by the conversion to Arx

3. Fdev (who are partly owned by the Chinese company Tencent) may start selling items that are not cosmetics. What's stopping them from selling ships or new weapons. Remember Bethesda made the same claim in Fallout 76. Then they started selling QoL improvements. With a shrinking player base, Fdev maybe one bad quarter away from selling Fleet carriers. Why does it matter. It's classic progression as they slowly escalate requirements.

4. There maybe financial issues as well since it maybe harder to cancel credit card purchases. Rather give you your money back they may just give you the equivalent in Arx which is worthless.

5. Earning Arx in game is just a gimmick. In the US the average hourly wage will soon be $15 an HOUR. Arx earning is rough equally to 32 cents a WEEK. Also some dedicated players may "earn" enough to hit the cap. So why is there a cap since items are cosmetics.
