Automation and Scripting - An investigation into further abuses of BGS and Powerplay

Apart from the initial increduality at the professionalism with which both sides (the alleged bot farmers and the player investigators) have approached this, one just has to wonder, why do it in open where they can be seen? If these were ran in solo/pg they would never be seen / caught.

Kinda makes sense. If you think about it. Everyone and their mother uses private and solo for BGS stuff so they wont get stopped.

Why take the trouble with these bots. To put something illegal in the game for everyone to see?

It does indeed seem a bit odd.

Could you email community@frontier.co.uk with all of the commander names that you suspect of botting/cheating/economy manipulation? Will follow up with customer support and our anti cheat team on this. Thanks!

Whilst I bet you won't share your methods, maybe this time you could share some statistics regarding how many bots you have stopped etc?

The response to combat logging wasn't convincing and, as far as I can see, frontier still appear to be pretty toothless in respect to it.

Well, maybe the Guardian AI is taking over commander accounts? Or wait, no - this is the 'emergent gameplay' everybody was talking about?

Zynism and bad jokes out of the way, I really think scripted "bot" accounts working in private groups can't be good for the game. Either Frontier should be harsh on violations OR they should provide a level of automation to everyone as legible game-mechanic: this would mean including an auto-jump-pilot, a supercruise auto-pilot, and maybe even the abiltiy to maintaine a NPC controlled fleet of ships that can be sent around by basic commanding abilites. I guess I know already this idea will not be popular. But I, for one, would love it!

Remove solo, private group, and ignores and problem solved no?

Sorry, checking the game mode is child's play. Press escape and read the mode near the bottom of the screen. Even a bot can do it.

Only if it's built to do it. I didn't say no bot can do it.

Remove solo, private group, and ignores and problem solved no?

Then you create additional problems, like forcing PP players into Open where they'll serve as fodder for salt miners.

No, and FDev said as such on a live stream (in relation to buying a second account for purposes of crewing up with yourself to get an extra power management pip). You buy the game once, you get all the entitlements that brings. You buy it again, you get all those entitlements again.

Lol, okay I really didn't understand this reply. If anything it simply reinforces (my) point about gaining an advantage or as you say 'entitlements'. But anyway, one player using multiple accounts at the same time is often very clearly considered and described as a cheat in other online games, and is not allowed. Just because FDev created a scenario to do this without considering the consequences doesn't mean it isn't an exploit. The test here is simply asking: why would one use multiple accounts? You know the answer: it's to gain an advantage over using one account whether it be the pips or whatnot. But this horse was beaten to death when MC was released and deserves to remain buried I guess!

Back to bot scripts: what happens when you shoot them? Do they quickly respawn? Aren't NPC ships also bots affecting the BGS? Like someone else said role play them and go hunt them down. The video example suggests they're easy to take down.

Implying that other games don't allow multiboxing or that a single pip will garner a massive advantage.

Although I'm not sure open/pg/solo is that related.

And I also think the "get rid of pg/solo" is a bit blinkered.

What would happen if Frontier openly permitted botting in open mode. But made everyone aware they would issue no compromise account bans for botting in solo/pg.

Seriously; How can having and running two or more accounts be considered an exploit, when! The Game Developers actually marketted it, to gain sales! Just because 'you' feel you can sling the 'exploit' title around doesn't meanit's an 'actual' exploit. You have an opinion, no-one has to respect it.

You have to remember its only an exploit when it is pro PVP.

Credit exploits arent an exploit because of that. Even after they get nerfed.. still not an exploit.

Sadly the majority of the player base do not see BGS and Powerplay PVP, as actually PVP.
Which is why they continue to support the stupid mode system. They can continue to ignore the obvious, have access to the easier modes but keep all the advantages.

what happens when you shoot them?.

I don't need to use multiple accounts simultaneously to affect 'Consolidation' vote. You only need to earn about 60 merits per week to vote. It's common for players to have multiple accounts, right? I just make sure all mine can vote.

When you scan, interdict or shoot them they log. Not much you can do with that.

In fact, when searching if these were real CMDRs, one of them appeared in a YouTube video. A few months before the AOS had found this CMDR, another player had got so annoyed at the log on interdiction behaviour, that they'd posted an example video of it.

Do you seriously wonder why no one want to play with you? Why Solo/PG are so popular.
You PvP “heroes” are your own worst enemy. Where does this weird Open mindset come from. Cringy!

To any and all who are in the "so what if they are using bots" camp, please have a read of the relevant section of the EULA (https://www.frontierstore.net/ed-eula/) that every single one of us has agreed to in purchasing this game (my emphasis):-
