Patch Notes Update Beta 2.06 incoming

Folks, there is no mention of a graphics fix in the first post.

FD are trying hard to resolve the various chronic stability issues that are totally blocking some people from testing the game. They are also trying to ensure that our sessions don't explode spectacularly at random intervals.

I know it would be "nice" if FD were to spend more time and effort backporting their graphics fix from the source they are actually working on into our Beta 2 source tree, but it's a short-term cosmetic issue we know won't be with us for long. We know the date for Beta 3.

I've got the grey-boring-graphics problem too, by the way.

Yes, it's not pretty. It does, however, play perfectly well. It doesn't interfere with any other game mechanic whatsoever. It's not blocking testing. It's NOT critical.

Backports should be for critical issues, and for issues FD need to get nailed down as a dependency for subsequent work to build from. Every minute spent backporting something cosmetic is a minute taken away from advancing the game, with no benefit to FD whatsoever. And no, "selling the game on YouTube" doesn't count. ;)

So please, just exercise some patience. It'll be sorted in two weeks, when Beta 3 drops. Then you'll have 50 new bugs to deal with. :)

Lovely - I had a feeling 2.06 would be out soon.

The main bug that needs work on is the graphics bug.

I see the graphics lighting change when coming out of SC, inside a dock, going into outfitting and always when going to the galaxy map and returning.

The last solves the problem of lights being too bright whether it is sunlight or other light sources.

Will ticket it again - have GTX 760....

It's exactly the same for me....I have an NVidia GTX670M. As you say, it's most noticeable on the new outposts.

The graphics bug seems to be related to camera volumes (I get it when I move too far from my initial position with the Oculus rift).

Can you guys try to reduce your field of view a bit? It seems like in the screenshots it's always completely maxed out, and/or the screens don't seem to be 16:9 screens.

I have a Titan in my system, and until I lowered the gamma quite a bit, everything looked just as washed out as all you guys complaining about a graphics bug. Have you tried reducing the gamma? What happens when you do? I mean, in the screenshots of the problem, I can see the shadows and everything so maybe it's all just too bright?

Another slap into the face of the whole gaming industry!
You really make all of them look lazy :D

Thanks for your hard work in the universe ...

I'm using a 16:9 monitor and have adjusted my FOV quite a bit for unrelated reasons, it has zero effect on the lighting issue that I've seen.

Hah, well I wish I could say I planned that. Hadn't read through the thread yet though... some of us are just really passionate about immersion, and the bug is a deal-breaker for us...

Try to look at it from FD's point of view.

The bug is fixed in Beta 3 which comes out in 13 days. To fix it in Beta 2 a developer would need to stop working on Beta 3 (which has an aggressive release date) to fix a bug that is already fixed and isn't game breaking.

There are so many game breaking issues that need fixing, lighting isn't one of them.

Sure that makes sense, I just think it'd be nice if they said "we'll have this fixed for beta 3. It won't be fixed in beta 2 because this would require a bunch of redundant work." (if they did say this, I missed it)

No worries though!

I do. Still... it's a bit hard to understand that they have a fix ready and simply decide not to include it in two updates since the solution has been found. In the meantime the holo displays (a cosmetic non-issue in my eyes) were fixed with the first update. Why did that not take away precious fixing time for more serious issues?

That was the first thing that I tried and it doesn't change anything, expect that everything is darker. Shadows and material shaders are still missing with lowered gamma, and the low gamma setting causes other problems (burned out galaxy backdrop, posterization, too dark system map etc.). Trust us, it's a bug that has nothing to do with the gamma setting. ;)

Just played it...

Its buggier than 2.05 ever was! I'm docked at a station, just bought fuel, and I'm looking at the galactic map, planing my next jump, when I hear some kind of UI bleep. I exit the menu to find my ship floating through the innards of the station and a warning that I'm trespassing! Luckily I exited the game before the lasers started.
