Community guests at FD HQ on 27th for Q4 news

I think that was the point of reducing the scope of 3.1/3.2 releases, to have something to forestall the community's boredom and/or exodus while freeing up the resources for more complicated changes.

A while ago they showed a stream with some 'enhanced lighting' (can't find it right now, I hope you remember that stream where Adam Woods went into full enthusiasm mode about) for Q4, something not everyone was so happy about as what I've seen didn't look much different from one of the already available and well known saturation enhancer.
That enhancer does not work with the Oculus (or with consoles, I would assume), so if the new lighting system creates that effect in-game for all platforms, then that would already be an improvement for many players.

I think it is important to point out that system in game will be dynamic. Something that no third party tools can really do well.

Thanks, hope you don't mind when I'll stay on a somewhat skeptic standby about this.

I might be able to answer this one. And yes, I was one of the individuals invited to the offices. I am a Twitch streamer that streams under the Malic_VR username if you have questions for me when I am live (I hope my signature block still works, and be aware l likely also will not be able to go into too much detail until Frontier show it first) I had been reading this thread but after it was expanding faster than I could read it, I waited till I got back home to start from the beginning and read it all the way though so I was not missing anything.

Yes, I would have to say the pictures that were given out several weeks ago do not represent what you can see in a live played version of the game in a video format.

Is one of those things, if you are in an ice ring, the ambient coloring, effects, star color, nearby gas giant, shadows, it gives this feeling of "this is a cold place"

If you are on a rocky body, back to the sun, just looking over the ground, the brightness, the sharp reflections off of glossy surfaces, you know this is a hot place before the camera was turned around and you see that the star is taking up half the sky.

Because the lighting system is dynamic, you will see a totally different effect right after you drop out of hyperspace, vs if you travel the distance out to Pluto, are in different types of rings, etc. Overall I feel it definitely adds to the game.

On top of that, there are performance improvements with the new system too.

As the avatar shows I am also a VR player, and started the game in Oct 2014 during the beta with a DK2, and did have many questions about everything that was shown when it came to use in VR.

Thanks Malic. Is there any VR-related info you gleaned that's generic enough to share, or specific to the known additions?

I'm sure some feel that way, but most posters in here seem more disappointed that they simply can't be told what was seen. Many of us would love to know more details about 3.3, and waiting to find out is frustrating. Particularly now because not everyone has to wait, a chosen few have been allowed to know while the rest of us don't. I feel like that's the larger source of angst, not that they weren't invited too.

In a few weeks the information should start flowing from Frontier, hopefully. Still, waiting sucks.

Most of the secrets around Bletchley Park were released twenty years after the war. Frontier will take longer. :(

Then we should leave it at that. At least I've dropped some feedback this way about something I hope not to see in Q4. I only see Sarah Jane monitoring this thread right now (Hi Sarah! :)) and not sure if she is interested in these things. But I hope you talk about everything in your office... ;)

She is, indeed. Save Us, Mistress!

I'm really surprised that the Dev team are influenced by what these YouTubers publish. These guys rarely ever represent what I think about the game and don't seem to have well thought out ideas on most aspects of it. The reason this game is successful is because Braben's a smart guy and assembled a smart team to do what they thought was good. That's why hes got an OBE! The worst aspects of the game have come about by pandering to the outspoken part of the ED community. The silent majority might want the Dev team to ignore these guys and just do what they or the OBE guy think is good.

The Silent Majority thought Richard Nixon was innocent...until the evidence started flowing out. Now, they are even *more* silent. :(

Question is ..... once the dust settles, what will all those Devs be doing next? Did anyone ask ?

It's IT. We will leave it as an exercise for the students.... :(

Once upon a time, in a century near, near away, there were jobs that lasted your whole working life....and paid enough to support a family.

I did ask about several VR things, mostly 3.3 specific stuff when those topics where what we were being shown and during each Q&A section afterwards.

Also asked about other VR related questions, and I am trying to get info if those are things I can actively speak about, since they had nothing to do with 3.3 directly, but is weekend and am not expecting an answer until monday at the earliest
