Do "purple-haired heroes" scare everyone into Solo?

... where are all the valiant PvP protectors I keep hearing about but never see? Why do griefers own supercruise with no opposition?

Majority play in Open, FDev also said that PvP is a minority activity:
"On PvP vs PvE
We listen to both sides. While it's true that the PvP crowd do tend to be more vocal and in previous betas have given more organised feedback, we're well aware that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP. "

So the "purple haired warriors" need another bunch of minority players to oppose them. If "PvPers" includes actual griefers, PP, pirates, and then protectors, your chance of finding someone is even smaller.

As for topic: no I am not scared into solo, those sorts usually invoke a wearied sigh, engage avoidance moves, and then see how persistent they are.
i'm not their content, so depending o how I feel i'll likewise engage once or twice, then swap to solo.
Best thing i've found is to have a faster ship, disengage in normal space and hang out at 6-7km (closer if they don't have rails), and wait them until they run away from you and surrender the battlefield.
If you do it enough they may even get the idea you're nt worth interdicting at all, and after that you can SC happily back and forth ;)

I do all my trading in Solo just because the forums are right, you can build a ship to avoid being killed and at that point all you get is a constant stream of interdictions followed by jumping a way it just seems to be a very effective way of turning 2 minutes of supercruise into 15 minutes for no real reason.......

If all these brave "I ain't afraid of no griefer!" forum posters actually got off their remlock-suited butts and offered the "blockade runners" the PvP they are looking for, I'd find CG trading in Open more compelling. I actually have more respect for the purple haired heroes, as they at least live up to their reputation (unlike these armchair quarterbacks).
I would, but there's no shortage of emergency rations in Carcosa shrugs
Serious answer: propably related to uncertainty about pips and networking, I'd say there are just less players out there. Guessing though.
Engineered pvp is a good alternative to sleep pills.

Unengineered sidewinder pvp is pretty fun though
Ha, our vanilla fixed Viper PvP shenanigans took longer than any PvP battle. "Hold still, I can't hit you... no u..." 😂
Goes to hightlight how incredibly pointless and un-enforceable blockades are.
This. But they are fun. And sadly one of the very few opportunities of getting combat.
Still fun.
As said. This.
Not that you were asking me, but for the record I fired up the game a couple of hours ago just to shut Stigbob (who's on my friends list) up.
You wanted to say "shoot Stigbob up". Please tell me you wanted to say "shoot" 😜
My favourite forum manoeuvre is the reverse salt extraction where you mention block around griefers.
Not... gonna...take...that...bait... urgh that self-restraint hurts... 😆

...scaring anyone into the mens room?
It's just a choice.

On topic though: imagine how much more fun this game would be if there was only one shared mode. I'd probably never stop playing.
OTOH I likely would never play and game would certainly have failed KSer so you would not have a game to play. (That is a fact btw about KSer)

So be thankful for the modes as they are as without them you would likely have no open either

This is my first CG on PC, woo! I've been "ship watching" at one of the CG stations, and the flow of CMDR trading traffic has been steady. Finally I decided to grab a few tons of grain in my Dolphin to do my part, and on my return to the system I was chased by two very persistent griefers. To my amazement, I escaped two interdiction attempts and also survived an attack in normal space. I love my Dolphin!

After playing cat-n-mouse with the griefers for about 20 minutes, give or take, I decided I wanted to actually sell these goods and get properly "registered" with the CG, so I switched to Solo, landed at the station, sold my goods, and then switched to Open again. Thing is, the station was just as empty in Open as it was in Solo! Ironic, since I was going to ask in local comms how everybody was getting past the griefer blockage. Maybe I got my answer - maybe everyone switched to Solo! Either that or everyone went to bed while was playing with griefers, or perhaps I wasn't allowed back into the original instance I was in...

So I'm asking the question here - does a griefer "blockade" cause the majority of players (the ones trading) to switch to Solo when participating in a CG? While I survived my cat-n-mouse with the griefers, I wasn't able to actually get close enough to the station to safely drop from SC. And let's face it, if I was serious about trade, I would have been there in a bigger ship, not my "let's play with griefers" Dolphin.

The other question I have is, where are all the valiant PvP protectors I keep hearing about but never see? Why do griefers own supercruise with no opposition? Don't go pointing fingers at me, I just started over, and I did my bit for queen and country by distracting those griefers for 20+ minutes, keeping them away from serious traders. Where are all you Elite ShinDez Warriors of Justice? Are you hiding under your beds?

EDIT

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about people switching from Open to Solo FOREVER, but just for a trading CG while griefers are blockading the system.
Yep, I'm playing the CG in SOLO for that reason

This is about right Op, they don't scare them , they bore them onto it.

I believe that for the most part it's more of a matter of people simply not caring about the CG that switching to solo. The CG golden era was until 2 or 3 years ago.

They're probably too busy mining painite and opals, or engineering ships to smithereens now that there's a awesome raw mats farming areas. Or just going about their regular business.

They don't scare me - I just have no interest in playing with jerks if I don't have to.

One of my biggest 'issues' with PvP in this game is was rebuy cost. My Type 10, for example, has a rebuy approaching 38 million (and boy is a lot of that the 8A fuel scoop) . But now, quickly approaching 10 billion from mining, I'm seeing that as a weak argument and find myself more and more tempted to put myself at risk (PvE poses 0 risk for me anymore) . And, if I get bored of interdictions, I can always go back to mobius for a while.

But to the blockaders, what do you suggest (seriously) to make this a challenge for you, and somewhat fun for me? ship wise. I mean, you're not going to kill me in my Type 10, you can't masslock it and I'll be out before you blow me up, as much as it presents a target you can hit with cannons at max range firing blind over your shoulder.
