Oh heck please do wait for the consumer version! I kind of thought about putting my dev kit on eBay, this is the first game that's really made me think about buying the real thing when it comes out. Everything else just makes me feel sick, the consumer version should be massively better with regard to latency and resolution.

Ex-helo pilot. I have hundred of hours in simulators so well used to them. On the other hand, I wouldn't think of buying a half completed product (OR) normally, however the enthusiasm and vivid descriptions of folks experiencing even the rough devkit makes it hard to resist.

Since no-one in my corner of the woods (well plains) has one, and there is little likelihood of having a games show locally where the kit would be demonstrated, testimonials and video are all I can base this on.

;)

Might be worth looking for a bargain on eBay, there seem to be a fair few on the UK site at least. The dev kit really is a ..dev kit though, too many wires and poor resolution makes on screen text impossible to read. There is a cool virtual cinema app that I really like where you feel like you own a cinema and can sit in any seat, but that will be oh so much more awesome when the HD consumer version is released.

From what I have been reading, they are close to having a consumer version ready, but the big issue is whither they can get somone to sell them the screens in the quantitys needed and at the right price. If not and they have to to arrange development of a screen from the ground up, that could delay the consumer version.

Have you tried warthunder and iracing?

If you are into simulators, the OR is made for you Mazhurg. :)

Rift settings for ED

First off I dont have access to the alpha forum as yet.

I have been trying to use the rift with ED this morning. Unfortunately the images are miles apart so its unusable.

Was wondering anyone have a fix or some settings that resolve this?

cheers

My primary concern with the Oculus Rift right now is how I am supposed to see how cool my X52 Pro looks while I'm wearing the Rift?

I have tried War-thunder. It didn't work so well for me, I think when I tried it they hadn't implemented a "center oculus" button so I had to physically turn my chair to where the plane was facing which was annoying. ED has this set to F12

War-Thunder has a head lock on target button (in Arcade and Simulation anyway) so it makes the game harder as you have to look around like a real pilot when everyone else can just lock on. You have to read the cockpit controls because you can't see the HUD as they are outside the rifts circle of vision. But the controls were too low def to be able to read them. Other planes didn't look so good for me, and the latency was bad enough to make me feel ill.

I too sit with mouse pointer over the buy DEV KIT button for hours on end... sitting hitting myself in the eyes with small salt whips and drilling into my shin bones to stop myself.

PLEASE OCULUS... GET THE RETAIL UNIT OUT!!! PLEASE..

The question of when to sell your Oculus Dev-kit springs to mind. Do you get rid of it early, allowing someone to get involved at a cheaper price? Or do you sell it after the consumer version is out, and potentially not be able to sell it at all? :)

Well there are about 9 on UK ebay right now with prices from about £200 up. About double that number on the US ebay.

I would really recommend people wait for the consumer version. The dev kit really does feel a little like staring at a 640×800 monitor up close enough to see the pixels, which is probably why there are so many on ebay. If you were going to buy a monitor and you knew that vastly higher resolution flat screen options were just months away you wouldn't buy an old CRT low res one would you? I dunno..maybe you would :)

Or alternatively buy a Crystal Cove dev kit.

I know how you feel. If there's a Crystal Cove Dev Kit Kickstarter I don't think I'll be able to resist.

I just assumed.. Have you heard anything about selling Crystal Cove Dev Kits?

They've only said that they'll be another dev kit before retail release. It will support all the final features, but could be another step on from the CC prototype. No comment on release data for the next dev kit or the retail version.

I'd link to the CES interview but can't remember which one it was. :)

I must resist temptation and not buy one of those. Unless they give us original dev kit owners a nice little discount towards the new one of course! ;)
