News Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return Release Date

What's the image on the left-most screen? (see 0:57 seconds in). Normally no images show there?

Looks a bit like the barnacle mark/tattoo.

Great stream last night. Good to see Sandro looking fit and well.

Quick suggestion - pass the lore script on to Obsidian Ant and get him to do a 3303 on it. That lore script should be front and central to 2.4.

Quicker suggestion. Put the lore in the darn game. I shouldn't have to watch YT videos to learn basic facts about the galaxy. Indeed I don't.

I bet a pound to a penny that nobody in the stations will mention how much they're bricking it about this new thargoid threat. It'll be a admin message in the text box, maybe one of the engineers might have a new recipe, but everyone else will carry on asking me to ship 40t of Biowaste for tuppence ha'penny as if nothing is happening.

Although as the "all seats filled, lip-sync'd comments" preview video was 40t of Biowaste too, maybe FD like it that way.

Do me a favor, check past GALnet posts, that's where the "lore" came from. So they've been in the "damn game" the whole time, this was merely a polite way of bringing people back up to speed on the backstory, old history as well as recent situations that are leading us (the game player) to this story driven intersection.

<Rant Interdiction Initiated.....>
Too many people flying around acting like they're owed something... do the work, do the time and you won't look like such a troll in the future. Now go back under your bridge, I have Thargoids to prepare for... if you plan on joining in, then lead me, follow me or get out of my way.

The Thergoids shields were reduced to 60% but then the humans just sat there while their shields regenerated. Why? Should they not followed up with another volley or beams or something? Seriously. When confronting what you suspect is a superior force you throw everything, including the kitchen sink, to insure you do your best.

You don't jump in the pen with a bull then poke it with a stick and just stand there. The Devs would not put anything in the game that can not be conquered. We just need to figure out how.

Chief

You are joking right?

Gravitus isn't wrong. It is in the game. Navigation panel > galactic powers > galnet. Or you can view it from the station services menu.

Also sounds like you wouldn't like dark souls either, a lot of the lore is in the item descriptions, and I mean every item description.

I don't think that was his mission aim.

Looks likely Vet Cmdr Mason was sent to assess the effectiveness of the weapon, and that meant learning that a volley of x many warheads resulted in a known hull danage to the Thargoid vessel. Plainly Palin has discovered that the weapon would have some effect, weapons deisgners would want to know how much.

He wanted confirmation of the damage done from his crew, which caused him to hesitate but in any case seems he hadn't been given enough information to anticipate any possible Thargoid retaliation. Which came;

Beautifully expressive imho. Image courtesy Cmdr Whitehair. o7

Best type of lore, is the lore you have to figure out yourself....

... :)

FRONTIER!!! I want a Great Library of Frog in the Frog system. The Great Library is a station with a "Library" station service. This Library is an entire encyclopedia of Elite Dangerous lore, written using an in-universe style.
Kthx.

It's the Millennial mindset, give it to them gift-wrapped (along with their fourth place trophies and participation award certificates) so they don't have to spend time reading, learning or creating a better version of themselves... it's sad really.

How can you enjoy a world if you don't know what the hell is going on in it?

You are joking right?

I rest my case, move along troll... go play something mindless and menial like Call of Duty... leave the thinking man's game to the ones who can handle a coherent thought and recommend a solution instead of pointing at the problem like a 3 year old and crying about it.

Agreed on both counts.

Dark souls can be awesome because you can figure out the significance of the player character in dark souls 3 using item descriptions from all 3 games and changing NPC alignments in 3 as well.

The lore and the story in ED is very similar. I have dug into some really old galnet articles just because I could, and a lot of it is very interesting. My only real issue with galnet are the weekly updates that don't mean anything to most people. There has to be another way to have those without cluttering up the galnet. But even then, there are ways to get around that (inara.cz comes to mind here).

I've seen the recording of the stream - well done Ed and Sandy [plus whomever braved the terrors of a live space loach to bring it into the studio :) ]

I wouldn't say myself that Cmdr Mason shouldn't have been more alert to possible risks of firing on - but I can only imagine from his uniform that he was an explorer, probably expecting a non-sentient lifeform in an experiment on a harmless being. He might, through accident or design, just not have been informed about suspicious wrecks and found datapads, so seems possible he was even set up as a target; The effect of Thargoid weapons on human ships counts as fully quantifiable data obtained by the mission too in the end. A warning not to blindly accept every mission you're offered?

I know right.. reading, what a bore.
:rolleyes:

I know, it is possible, in theory, but I don`t think that anybody will go thought 1000 pages of text to find 2 page of lore. Unless I missing something an it is a better way to find it on galnet.

I really think that it a very bad way to introduce lore in the game. Is it a bad thing to want something better?

Would it be nice to have some easy and accessible way to read about Empire/Federation/Alliance lore, guardians lore with known coordinates of ancient ruins, thargoid lore with known coordinates of barnacles, bases. Read about known generations ships and how to find it, about Formidine rift story, again with coordinates of known outposts without outgame tools? Or am I asking too much?

I'd just group things by category using an expandable tree-view.
