News Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return Release Date

My question is simply: Can we join them?

In Elite Thargoids sometimes turned up with other races and human players I'm wondering if this will carry over to Elite Dangerous?

I'm quite excited about the new stuff. I really hope there are different ways to interact with the Thargoids than just shooting at them.
And NPC-Wings would be great, I've been waiting for them for a long time.

Anyway I'm looking forward to hear why human weapons can't damage them, because for me that sounds a bit silly.

I'm thinking these things - seem organic to me - "live" in deep space, so theyre going to be hardened to EM radiation (beam weapons) or solar wind would damage them. And as you can't cook a plant with green light, it just reflects off it but other wavelenghts are absorbed as food, given the right kind of kevlar type (almost polymeric was it) chemistry, projectile weapons wouldn't be effective either, it's a tank. I think the Thargoids are known to absorb meta-materials so, like a jellyfish does, the bullets might stick and slowly get absorbed, only helping this ugly thing to grow bigger.

I also think we're misdirected by the name 'Operation Retaliate' .. I think Aegis sent Veteran Commander Mason to 'see if' the Thargoid would retaliate. Yep. (Ah, the bravery of being out of range, eh General?) RIP.

<s>Oh, another thing - why do we see Feds ATTEMPTING TO GANG-GRIEF the poor thargoid with a wing? Where is the C&P system? Will this senseless murders stop?! Will karma get them?! Surely fdev doesn't condone GRIEFING?!</s>

sorry, couldn't resist ;-)

I got the impression Aegis is a collaboration between Federation and Imperial forces (is that right?) .. so you can't necessarily blame one faction. As an independent, maybe I should stand between these people and our new neighbours.

Greetings Commanders,

We’re very pleased to announce that Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return will be released on Tuesday 26 September.

On launch day you’ll be interacting with the most mysterious and deadly things you’ve encountered in the Elite Dangerous galaxy – the Thargoids.
Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return will then continue to roll out with interactive narrative-based content emerging over the coming months.

We can’t wait to see how you fare against these potentially deadly adversaries on Tuesday 26 September.

You can see the cinematic short on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38bHNSB4cDM

Good luck out there,

Ed

Great, as far as I can see there was no reason what soever to attack this alien ship. Just a bunch of aggressive humans. So these commanders get what they deserve.
I love Thargoids. I salut them !!

Even though I'm more of a jumphonk than a pewpewist, I'm looking forward to this update. At some point, I will have my kids and myself doing a wing and get some Thargoid clubbing going. Just for the fun of it. Yeehaaw!!!

Also, I'm excited about the news that there will be updates in the future both with the engineers and exploration.

Is the lore text Ed read out available anywhere yet?

Ed said he'd post it.

Time to move some ships out to the Maia area :)

Definately not griefing, but a clear case of ganking! Griefing would be if they, while the poor thing transforms into a brick in order to fit through the letterbox, SMASH right into it in their brandnew Corvettes at 1% hull - repeatedly! Of course the whole bunch of shaved apes would, and should rightfully so (!), take a massive (!!) KARMA-hit: After all our multi-legged/tentacled/whatever friend wasnt even wanted!!!*

Tell me about 'resist' ;)

* Well, he was carrying a load of highly illegal Thargoid egg flip, but those fools in their Corvettes should have really waited for their cargo-scans to finish...
