News Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return Release Date

Hm.
V2.4 : The Return. Civilized Aliens finally retaliate against the long series of human aggressions carried out by the Federal Navy.

*grabs popcorn* *watches mayhem from a distance* :D

PS.
Really looking forward to Limpet Synthesis and the new Route Plotter.

This. I really hope that The Return features ways to interact with the Thargoids that aren't running or gunning. Despite previous encounters just as awful as this one, the Thargoid in the video did not act aggressively until fired upon save for the standard shut down pulse (pretty reasonable response when dealing with 5 armed human vessels). Perhaps they can and actively do distinguish all humans as singular entities despite their hive consciousness?

I really hope so commanders. For all our sakes, I hope the Federation is not the only legible symbol of humanity.

Better dead than Fed :p

Well, it's looking like it might be time to pack up the vette and start heading towards Colonia.
Dale made a comment somewhere on one of these many 2.4 related threads that implies that colonia may not be far enough away. Might I suggest brushing up on your brave sir robin tactics?

Yeah. Great...for 12 year olds.

Now, what about the gameplay...?

After all this time, just more things to shoot at? Really?

The vid is a great marketing tool, but that is all it is. Synced speech, NPC crew, etc; none of which is available in game.

Boring doesn't even begin to describe this eternal, grind-filled, arcade shoot-em-up.

Help me but my take away was 5 ships armed to the teeth will not take down one of these ships so you will need multiple waves times the number of Thargoid ships you are facing? Colonia I am coming soon.

I need more training in using fighter ships etc or count me dead

Same. I'm not a fan of the narrative that Thargoids are one-dimensional Hollywood antagonists. I want to be able to interact with this alien race, to trade, to visit their planets, to possibly obtain some of their ships, to exchange technology and ideas...along with the possibility of exchanging violence. :p

But I won't hold out or hold my breath either, seeing as in prior Elites...that's all the Thargoids seem to have been.

Gods, one would be forgiven for thinking people like you were being forced to play the game.

Stop playing it, and move on. It's not difficult.

Suspected as much... ;)

"brave sir robin tactics"? Could you elaborate?

Brave Sir Robin ran away
(No!)
Bravely ran away away
(I didn't!)
When danger reared its ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
(No!)
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
(I didn't!)
And gallantly he chickened out
Bravely taking to his feet
(I never did!)
He beat a very brave retreat
(All lies!)
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
(I never!)

Oh how I wish I didn't knew anything about this.. Imagine having this encounter without knowing anything beforehand.

Anyway I'm looking forward to hear why human weapons can't damage them, because for me that sounds a bit silly. Some dev said that if a human were to touch a thargoid it would burn them. But it can't be killed by a Plasma Acc?

Meh.....another attempt to bring ppl to play together like with multicrew!
In short nothing for me, i won't even bother download this update once it's out.
However graphics looks nice, i'll be back on october 7 to check about future roadmap of Elite, i hope it will be about atmo planets ;)

Unfortunately, yes. ED feels like this more and more with each release.

I sincerely hope we can write off the whole "Horizons" as a "pew-pew update sprinkled with planetary landings" and be finally done with that, shifting development focus to other areas of the game. Grinding weapons to shoot more things is boring, is all. Still like many times said, willing to yet again give FDev benefit of the doubt so waiting till frontier expo for some hope or a final push to uninstall. Watching from outside I think I understand why Horizons turned the way it was (tough business decisions are tough), and hope that now they will allocate the fruits of those decisions into fleshing Elite a lot more than it is today. As in, start delivering and get us excited over this game once again. I still hope there will be peaceful interactions with the aliens (Oresians?), but am not yet seeing the tools for it, and comments like "how you will fare against these potentially deadly blahblah" don't give much hope for that.

Stop playing it, and move on. It's not difficult.
It is difficult, akin to ending a long time relationship, at least for me. You still hope the other person will change, and it doesn't happen. Life. I know there is a large group of people who enjoy the repetitive nature of E: D, more power to them. I still hoped to actually explore the galaxy, not to watch loading screens ad nauseam and repeat honk-scoop-jump with a occasional landing on a bland and featureless template of a barren planet with the only real difference being in sky backdrop and an occassional ringed giant over the horizon. The reason I am still here is I'm keeping tabs on what is happening regarding 2.4 and possible 3.0, but I do not log in to Elite anymore. On a break so to say.

Well can't say this is unexpected, but a man can still dream... I hope there are at least some surprises for us non-pew-pew folk in the final patch notes.
