Escape Pod Ejection

Alright, I stand corrected. That wasn't a good idea. There should be a realism/time balance in any game. Consider this thread closed, good luck and have a happy New Year. o7

There are realism things that I would also like in game, but I have to face it 99% of players would find them just utterly boring and time wasting. For instance I think we should have a sort of fog of war, you shouldn't be able to plot 20kly unless you are following another CMDRS route, the number of jumps you can plot without a preset route should be determined by sensors and spectral analysis of stars on your proposed route and the amount of time you take to scan the region of space. The fact that in the ED galaxy the location of every single star is known to the route plotter is unrealistic, some areas are hidden behind dust clouds, stars might have gone nova over thousands of years it would take the light to reach us, but that would make the game annoying.....to put it mildly, for many players.

But at least we can have a sense of humour about it right?

Have a good new year and fly safe CMDR o7

I can't speak for the Fuel Rats but if it was me scooping up Cmdrs in pods I certainly wouldn't be handing them in.

My corvette could sure use a few "crewman" around the place and no mistake. The state of the recycling unit has
to be seen to believed and it's sure not going to me cleaning it out with toothbrush.

Yes I know the Empire is supposed to have laws about the ethical treatment of slaves and all that but old woman Empress
aint on my ship and what she doesn't know won't hurt her.:devilish:

In theory, depending on where you are destroyed, it would be logical to assume you'd spend oodles of time in your pod waiting to be rescued. That would be fine if this was a single-player game where the clock (upper right hand corner of the screen) could be advanced dozens of hours (or even months/years) into the future. You'd expect stuff happened while you were waiting to be rescued (What do you mean? The Beatles? They broke up!!!?????).

Since this is an on-line game and the clock doesn't have the option to jump you into a future time where you've been rescued, there's pretty much no choice in starting immediately again at the rebuy screen and BOOM there you are, alive and well in your new ship where only a few seconds of time have passed.

It would be neat and immersive if, after death, there was a short little scene where your escape pod launches from your doomed ship and, after a few seconds in the darkness of space, you see the lights of a Search & Rescue Patrol shine on your little pod before you hit the rebuy screen. Just a small, short scene to segue from the ship's destruction to you appearing at a nearby station. Admittedly it still wouldn't make any sense if you were way out of the Bubble...

Mechanically, I don't see any way to implement OP's suggested features. It would either be too obtuse and waste player's time without enjoyment, or it would be so slimmed-down and unobstructive that it wouldn't accomplish its intended purpose, which is to provide some real "weight" to death. Still, the current "explosion then rebuy screen" just doesn't cut it.

Always thought it could be a 5min rescue timer in the bubble, add 5min per 10kly from sol. If I die ~>20kly from the bubble I'm probably going to take a break anyway.
I'm all for anything that fights telepresence as an explanation. I'm also for trying to inject more sim into the game.

Interesting thought, i like the roleplay aspect, however i dont see how that would be viable as a gaming feature which wouldnt almost immediately upset alot of people who are forced to sit in space for hours :p

@OP: for real? And you'd call it gameplay?

Thanks, but we have already too many timesinks like having to watch the same weapon/ship changing animation 86 zillion times. Your suggestion would be the worst of all

I don't think we get into escape pods. We're in our seats and then BOOM. I see us floating in space in our remlock suits. I would enjoy a quick cutscene of a rescue ship (NPC) coming to my rescue, fade to black, another scene with me in a medical bay, fade to black with "two weeks later", finally fade to me at the insurance office claiming my rebuy.

However, being a live online game, there is no "two weeks later". What we have is the best that can be done in an MMO-like game. If you're looking for the ultimate in realism, playing full iron man mode is the only way.

BTW - Did you know the game logs records us as dying and resurrecting? So if anything, we're Cylons being reborn in a clone body back in the station every time we die.

What about the medical bills?

I just RP it and switch off for a min of 4 hours after dying before picking up my next craft. Certainly its not for everyone but it works for me and doesnt impact any other users who want to pick up straight after death and fly again. Not sure why Id want to force everyone to sit looking at an empty screen for a couple of hours just to maintain some resemblance of reality in a made up electronic world tbh

Just imagine the exciting gameplay of....sitting. In a pod. With nothing to do for hour after hour after hour after hour...

No thanks. I’ll take the handwavium micro-FSD in the escape pod nonsense.

I would like to see an animation of when you eject, activate your beacon and then a short timer 5-10 seconds for when the rescue ship arrives and then a fade to the insurance screen.

Have it optional too, so that you can turn it off for people that not that bothered by it.
