The game won!

Thanks FD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for.... something that is absolutely basic to have in any such game. I'm glad it's coming...it should have been there long ago. And i don't mean to fly your ship from 3rd person, i hate this, but to take screenshots and marvel at my ships.... the way a lot of ship functions work in ED, it would be pretty impossible to efficiently fly your ship form eternal view anyway, For one you couldn't access your screens.

I read that DB thought it was unrealistic earlier in this thread?...i'm a bit bored with the devs apparent insistence on realism. You do realise the whole concept of the game itself is utterly unrealistic right? And... like... oh ships have to be symmetrical because otherwise atmospheric flight will make no sense....yeah it IS a game. You could decide to make a brick fly if you wanted to. There comes a time when someone can just be too much of a nerd about certain things.... i say.

Aw please don't be like that. I completely agree with your statement on realistic vs gameplay. But when they don't do something they get nailed, when they do, they get nailed. How can they get out of this vicious circle? In the end, they decided to give us that feature. I'm just incredibly glad they did!

You know how to do something and avoid getting nailed for it? Do it properly, instead of opening debug features to the playerbase in a post-launch game. That's just f'd up to me.
They haven't given us a feature, they've given us one of their tools because it happens to have the same basic function. Does that not seem wrong for a post-launch title?
Don't expect the vanity camera as a mechanic to make it off the backburner any more quickly now as people get used to the debug camera.

Why reinvent the wheel currently? Seriously, this is an easy win for them...which you see and disagree with. Will people complain that the camera isn't what they wanted? Maybe. Let's see how functional it is. It meets peoples criteria that it cannot be used to fudge fights. It WILL give folks the ability to see themselves and make videos and machinima...which helps the game overall.

Possibly they have set out their internal roadmap and they only have a limited amount of development they are allowed to do before they strart serious work on the first expansion pack. Given this, the camera drones concept may have been a lot of work and they had to take the pragmatic decision to do it this way.

Use of the term "debug camera" may be partly so that those who were against this internally save face and to try to maintain consistency with previous comments from devs on this topic. I doubt they are just giving us all of the debug view features that they have internally - I suspect it is a version that's more limited than what they can do internally.

By the way, have they stated yet what your ship will do when you enter the debug camera? Will it carry on according to the last control settings you had made?

What an extraordinary reaction. This is in no way whatsoever an "arcade" feature. If anything, it's the opposite. I can't remember putting 10p in any game that involved sitting still and admiring the scenery (while 100% vulnerable, with no means of defending your ship).

It's less an easy win, more of a lazy win. All of those criteria could be met by the actual finished vanity camera feature, without being a lazy hack to keep the kids from complaining for too long. It's pandering, it's insulting, and it fits their entire MO perfectly so far. Why bother producing gold when the plebs would be happy with pigiron? Things like this are just starting to me off now.
