Of course when referencing why they like the external view it becomes clear. Because the Xbox had one. Only reason to have one in this game is for what?

Wait, What?! Theres already a 250 pg thread on this for the past several months? WHat!?!

Referring to the newsletter "This week, we’re taking stepping outside and taking a look at our ships with the new external camera, available in March’s Wings content update."

Before anyone pings me on this, i've already looked through main poll/discussion thread and i'm not digging through 200+ threads as it should be consolidated.

I have a few questions for those who know more about this feature being implemented as it concerns balance/immersion.

1) Can you use this external view and rotate the camera during combat?
2) Will there be new keybinds to control camera?
3) Will any HUD elements be toggled or enabled during external cam or is it purely cosmetic?

If usable in combat this would prove to add to some serious balance concerns. #wtfneedsradar

I'm just afraid this is what external cam would be like

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

I don't think so.
So this is just your personal opinion.
I hate it when people state their personal view as a fact... it just looks stupid.

As stupid as "this ain't every other simulator" sounds. It's a space sim, it is not a carbon copy of another game, and it's not a train, plane, farm or truck simulator. Elementary, it is not the same as all others.

Your last sentance is exactly what i said: "this ain't every other simulator" ;)
But i might get you wrong...

I find it entertaining that you type "referring to the newsletter", yet, you didn't actually read the newsletter. I'd start there first.

Is there really any reason to be so rude just because someone is looking forward to having an external view?

I thought this was a space simulator. http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/

Never really though of the Elite series as sims per se.

It's the colloquial usage of the word sim, afaict. Elite's technically in between DCS and Tom Clancy's Hawx on the realism scale, leaning more towards DCS but not at 99%. It's a soft-sim, attempting to provide a fair few layers of realism above arcade-pew without going full-on IRL.

My Elite terminology post of the day. :)

Oh that's great. I guess.
.
Still no word on a rear view camera (?). (or downward ... or side view camera's)
.
Still my daughter's new 2014 SUV is more high tech than a 3300 era space craft.
.
I'm thankful for what I can get. Maybe I'll buy a paint job now. ... maybe
.
Have a nice day

You're right, I somehow missed that. Since it was like 5 PARAGRAPHS DOWN from where it was first mentioned at the top of the newsletter.

Let me get this straight, you read the tiny 1 paragraph summary at the top of the newsletter (where they have briefly summerized what is supposed to follow below) and thought you had all the information?

What advantage?? Don't we have a all seeing radar? ;) I`m a flight simmer and every time I pop to outside view I loose my advantage.

I think the idea is that if using an external view gave an advantage (by being able to see what direction fire on you was coming from for example) it would, as it does with many games, mean that everyone would end up having to use it or be at a disavantage. FD want ED to be a first person game not 3rd person and so they have chosen to restrict the usefulness of the external view for combat.

this is absolutely amazing, an external view feature, can you imagine!

techmology is progressing at breakneck speed, man might even land on the moon one day!

Yup apparently I skipped it, only glanced. Doesn't matter though. 3rd person is lame. But not a deal breaker here, since you can't abuse in combat.

Yeah Kaburan, seems like it'll work like Darkstar One's (X360) external camera; you'll be able to move the camera to any angle and presumably zoom, but no ship control while in that mode. First person is the only way to actually control the ship.

And as for the belief that the external camera is being released to sell more paintjobs; if that's the sole motivation, FD is about a couple months late. They probably would have sold a ton more paint jobs if external camera was available from day one. I'm not saying that selling paint jobs isn't a motivator, but it doesn't logically seem to be the single or key motivator. Fans wanted the camera, FD held off, fans kept voicing their needs, FD is finally delivering.
