I’d like more commanders in the Open

I'm not sure if this is one of those "last word" things or not but out of an abundance of caution:

* Good, then the problem of people being in Open is solved and the thread can be closed. Wonderful news!

* That's... great? There's a lot of things in a lot of games that don't perfectly reflect real life?

And finally, I'm aware of the piece. A solid effort. Not quite my particular thing, but you're quite obviously very proud of it and I'm glad you could find that joy for yourself and your readers.

Now, if there's nothing further, I've got a sector to map in preparation for FCs. Very glad we could resolve this issue, and that there are enough people in Open.

Not really going for the last word so much as imploring that you might consider the possibility that defining a fellow player by a singular activity is perhaps a bit self-limiting. I can tell you from years of association that Phisto is the sort who plays the whole game as it is, and not as others wish it was. Who (with the rest of our squadron) takes the storytelling ball that Frontier dropped and runs with it. And, as a writer, I'd thought that you'd appreciate the efforts we undertake to do so.

I'd be happy to continue this discussion later. In the meantime, happy exploring!

Doesn't bother me. Ain't got time for fools these days.

Look, I've helped enough people throughout my time playing this game to learn that holding their hand and patting them on the butt don't do diddly squat.

Pulling them up, dusting them off, and giving them the tools and knowledge to make their own way? Works every time.
If that's what you need to tell yourself to feel better next time you gank a newbie in your kitted out ship then more power to you I guess.

To anyone still preaching moral codes and what's considered trolling, why not arm yourself and pay a visit? We all use the same tools here, it's not like the deciat danger is any more than what you can pose yourself, especially if you come in a wing. Just yesterday I ran into the exact same Commander that kicked my butt in Todd space half a year ago, and ate him for breakfast in my PvP ready mamba. Sht felt so fulfilling, I still have goosebumps.

I urge anyone that was wronged this way, to come back the day you're ready. This is the most combat fun you'll ever have in this game.
I would, but as stated previously, casting for the villains in my story's already finalized and the story I'm working on sees humanity actively cooperating with one another. A human killing another human, in my story, is such an anathema to my characters that it isn't done. "Wars" are still fought, but take on more of a sports feel -- tickets are sold, teams are formed, designated fight areas with telepresence combatants only.

I'm not entirely certain my story is something you'd want to experience. If it is, lemme know, but otherwise, I'd be loathe to force my story on others. It's just not the right thing to do in my eyes. But I can only speak for myself. Good luck out there!

I played solo once and it was boring I played in the open and its still boring. Now when the fleet carriers come, it won't be boring, but I will be worn out by the time I get enough money to buy one, when I could use one to help me make money. So I been playing this game for years and haven't seen one single player except for the cg so how could new players run into players. I do admit stay away from the engineering area until you understand the game and open play better.

There's a far greater chance of running into other players at 1) CG systems (back when CGs were a thing), 2)"hotspots" like Shinrarta or Deciat, and 3) Powerplay headquarters and/or conflict areas, though not as many people engage in PP these days. In Colonia you can usually find people hanging out at Jaques Station, but anywhere else is hit and miss.

For the most part, open is virtually identical to solo. The vast majority of other players are also peaceful. Why certain among this community insist on pushing the false narrative that open is nothing but gankers and torment I can only guess.

Everyone is free to write their own stories in PG/solo. But if you want to write the common, general story of the game, you gotta conquer open. Shouldn't expect the general populace to follow suit, just because someone has different views.

I'm not a writer for the game so I guess there's no worries there. I'm here to write a bit for my friends, and we have everything that we need. But thank you so much for your offer. I wish you all the best with your own work.

Sure, all the best to you too! I may have misinterpreted your comment there, work is pretty hazy nowadays, so in that case, sorry. I just wish people finally realized a simple concept phisto once coined on our discord: The only person that can spoil your fun is yourself.
It's really worth giving a thought.

Stories like in the OP are why I stick exclusively to solo. I don't feel like dealing with griefers and trolls everytime I wanna go to Deciat or Achenar.
Nobody could argue with that logic.
Because there isnt any.
Logic is pretty clear in my view. I don't want to deal with trolls so I play in solo. Seems pretty cut and dry.
Well that does, yeah. Seems a shame though to damn the galaxy because of a couple of risky systems. I play in Open for the most part because I prefer to work with people than against them.
Who cares what mode people play in? Plenty of folks in Open to go around.

Better folks pick what suits them.
Plenty of BGS/Powerplayers care what modes people play in, when what they do adversely affects what we do. It's better to be able to engage people directly to arrange mutual benefit, than have to counter an invisible-hand. So when someone draws a general rule for playing in Solo, based on scare-stories that don't apply to the overwhelming majority of systems, it seems fair enough to me to call out the faulty logic.

So when you’re in a station in PG or solo and the station kills an NPC? Or you’re in a res and pirates are killing miners? Or any of the other NPCs killing each other?

I mean you wanna rp then whatever but don’t accuse others of trying to make the game something it isn’t then do that very thing yourself lol

How do we even define newbie these days?

I can't access the starter zones, so strictly speaking I can't kill newbies even if I wanted to. There's Deciat of course. But if you're heading out to Maia and back you can hardly claim newb status anymore.

Remember, I spend most of my time in Colonia. No new players there.

Why? Most players of this game are quite antisocial, often time ignoring Hellos and hails. In the off chance they do, it's a simple o7.

Interdicting other players often leads to the interdicted player just jumping to a nearby system and escaping.

Gone are the days in Multiplayer MMOs where you absolutely need a group of friends to get anywhere.

Open is a nice option to see the occasional hollow blip on your scanners, but from the ground up Elite was not set up to be a MMO, with heavy emphasis on grouping together. The "iffy" instancing is evidence of this.

I'm one of those unpopular people that enjoys the game the way it is. I play solo sometimes, and when I want to see the occasional commander, who, 90% of the time wont give me more then an o7, then I'll play in open sometimes

?

Son, I operate in deep space, where the signals and NPCs do NOT roam. I haven't had the opportunity to test what happens in a belt out there yet, but you do know you don't HAVE to fight the NPCs that populate in a mining area, right? If you boost away long enough, they despawn? If you didn't know that, now you do, and don't feel bad if ignorance made you leap to a conclusion that was just a mirage due to lack of understanding.

As to the last bit... I have no idea what to make of that there. I'm just gonna assume DWP.
