Is Chapter 4 "make it or break it" for you?

Why do some people in this thread even mention atmospheric landing in conjunction with the Q4 update?

This was never ever promised or even hinted at. Q4 will not be atmospheric landing!
Please guys, get this out of your minds or the dissappointment will be inevitable and the "breaking" part get very real ...

As I keep saying, aside from what has already been mentioned relating to Q4, my hopes for that update are, in no particular order:

1. Making Notoriety more meaningful-& Useful-for criminal players. Oh, & significantly beefing up bounties for crimes like Assault, Piracy & Murder.

2. Flesh out the Military component of the game, so it is more than just taking the odd faction mission, just to get a few rank locked ships.

3. Tie specific Powers to specific Factions, so that work for said Factions can assist your standing with your pledged Power.....& vice versa.

4. Make our affiliations to specific Super-Powers more meaningful.

5. Flesh out missions & give them more of a sense of *context*......for want of a better word.

6. Give us the means to trade in Faction & Engineer Reputation for special favours with both groups.

7. Tier 2 NPC's!!!

If most, or even all, of these things get into Q4......then I can see myself getting very addicted to this game again.

Who could thought that the stupid honk mechanic was an ok gampleay mechanic, or the stupid docking at full speed mechanic for smuggling. They should be doing cellphone games instead.

It's OK as a placeholder, but definitely not as a one of the main game activity for 4 years... Multicrew (also feature-stripped BTW) was more important apparently ;)

Are any of those even on the road-map? Q4 is exploration for the most part. Reckon you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Sorry, guy. :<

I hope we get that Panther Clipper or whatever it is called, and a couple of other huge ships.

And I hope they fix the long super cruise passenger missions.

I fixed a pork tenderloin this evening, stuffed with apple pie filling, and wrapped in bacon and it was great.

People want atmos' landings sooooo bad. When FD mentioned (back at last year's expo) that there would be paid content this year as well as the main 4 updates I think many believed it could be some form of atmos' landings (or perhaps gas giant gameplay). It's an obvious thing to sell as an add-on because it's so easy to gate ... like Horizons, if you've paid and thus have the appropriate ship module (akin to the Horizons Planetary Landing Suite) then you can get past the exclusion zone, if you haven't then you can't. Alas, as we get into the 2nd half of the year with no hint of this, I think hope for this is now fading, oh well. Perhaps next year?

Come to think of it, my breaking point would be if they remade Elite: Dangerous into something like Farmville. If they did that, I'd be leaving, definetly and permanently.

Q4 has an Exploration Update. Q4 will also (supposedly) see a DLC. Not hard to envisage that DLC will be atmospheric landings done in conjunction with the exploration work...

I'd be surprised if the Q4 DLC, or ED 4.0 is not atmospheric landings...

Ye it won't be part of Q4. But FDev are happy to allow anticipation for one of the 'big' content adds (atmos planets, space legs and gas giants) as part of the paid content to continue in the community. One would hope if we're not getting those they would have quelled that chat quickly.

I am certainly one of those people who want atmos' landings badly! ;)

And I even stated my belive (multiple times in other threads) that the next premium DLC will likely be launched at the same time as the Q4 update and therefore we might get those longed for feature(s) together.

However, both launches are not related and the payed DLC could come later in the year or even be (god forbid!) postponed until 2019.
Furthermore, Q4 is free (for owners of the 'Horizons' season pass) while atmospheric landings (or whatever will come) will definitely be premium content.

TL;DR:
Q4 update =! premium DLC.
Atmospheric landing is not part of the Q4 update but maybe part of the premium DLC.

You'd be surprised if a massive addition, for which there is zero evidence, doesnt come unannounced in a few months?

I hope for you gamescon is an overwhelming success...

Yeah, this is certainly solid theory till disproved. Considering volumetric clouds we saw at Lavecon reveal, there's strong basis for this theory. They clearly show off tech they will use for new DLC.

Technically we have tons of evidence. Horizons got revealed around same time before it's end of year release. We have seen volumetric clouds (in space of course because why not) showed off by FD. We also know lot of lightning improvements are also meant for creating atmospheric shaders.

Only evidence we're lacking is time about reveal. Is it gamescom? Is it later? Who knows.

Chapter 4 won't bring me back to the game now, I think i'm pretty much done with ED. I might log back in to see what the changes are, but i can't see me ever putting in the play sessions I did in the early days, when i thought the game was going somewhere.

Q4 may bring some greatly needed QOL improvements for those players that are still very much into the game, but I think that those of us that are just too tired of the repetition and grind will never be tempted back for any meaningful amount of time.

Yeah, but we don't know which year that's supposed to come.

To be fair it doesn't matter much. 2018 or 2019, as long as FD has solid release schedule after Beyond. Only question is Zac statement. If FD can clarify - if that content is delayed to 2019 for example - I think we all can live with that.

Content itself is important. Release date - not so much, as long as FD communicate it with us.

I disagree really. Release date is not important as long as it's in some reasonably near future.

"Hey guys, yeah, the premium content for LEP holders will be released in 2025. Cheers".

What?

See, I don't mind waiting either (although my patience runs very thin). It's more not knowing at all that's the issue for me.
