Lego Technic SRV (WIP)

Update: 13/03/2020
Been working on wiring up more lights and placement of battery pack and expansion board for the lights. Here you can see I have two rear lights and four front lights. I will have a total of eight lights at the front, once those arrive I'll be wiring them in. The expansion board for the lights has Lego sized holes at either end so I can mount it securely once all wires are attached. This will be powered by a seperate battery pack similar to the Blackweb one in the picture below, but hopefully I'll be able to find a smaller one to fit inside better. failing that I'll run a cable out connected to a USB power source.

I remember how fun it was lighting up my RC cars. Great days. Is it all going as expected nick?

Oh yes, I’ve very quickly taken a couple of (not very good) snap shots of my Nebulon-b medical frigate. The purpose of this build (other than i like this ship) was to use up a load of left over bricks from previous builds. I was amazed how much of this i made before i needed to order some more.

It’s no where near finished yet by the way.

That looks awesome! I love the detailing in it!

As for my project - you ask if it's all going as expected. Well, for the most part yes - I'm quite suprised how well the build has gone to be honest. Had one or two design issues but I've had extra pieces laying around and adjusted the troublesome parts to great success. Fiddly part was wiring in the lights, but I had left space in the design for that. I remember lego being much bigger when I was 10! Surely my fingers can't be that big and clunky now :p

Thanks nick! Not bad for a load of left overs😂.
Lego is amazingly therapeutic.... for my super over active mind.
I always wonder if the Lego designer program is ever in conflict with the real brick build? regards to complex fittings interacting with each other? You know, when two bricks don’t quite interact correctly, causing a slight push apart.

I love the Nebulon B, great work Flimley 👍🏻

@Flimley , @nickweb . Hate you both. Damn creative types with your expertise and abilities.

;)

Awesome work gentlemen. Just awesome.

I'm still bright green with jealousy though mind. I thought I was 'clever' just assembling ready-made Technic sets.

You can do it! Go on you know you want too.

I have worked up the sides, front and rear of the main body now, got the roof pieces attached although I did have to modify them slightly as they were getting in the way of the turret's track mechanism. Also attached the turret too. The turret track sticks a little - I'll need to figure out why, but the boosters go up and down really nicely! The orange and black thing you see directly behind the cockpit is the IR unit so I can control the motors wirelessly.

I have the middle wheel assembly built and ready to attach, just need to complete the front and rear assemblies now.

Since COVID 19 has made buying more Lego difficult, here is my UCS Lego Asp Scout progress:

I was aiming to finish before December and New Era.
Looking really good! I'm not sure what the current situation is with sites like Bricklink - plus when I used it I only bought from UK sellers (for the quicker postage times) Hopefully you can continue this beast!
Looks like you really have the frame nailed there well done!

Thanks! Its gone through about ten revisions so far mixing old, new Technic Lego and regular bricks and plates. I want it to be free standing (so it will have landing gear) and interior like a UCS Millenium Falcon. I spent ages pouring over photos and pulling whats left of my hair out getting the angles right :D

I ordered a LEGO set from a seller on eBay yesterday and it dispatched by Pack Link at the end of the day, should get it tomorrow...

This is amazing! I'm glad somebody finally decided to take on a large scale asp. I attempted to start one back when I used ldd but I wasent skilled enough to make a proper frame. I have a few questions, will it be minifig scale? And will it have an interor? I cant wait to see the final product. 👍

Cheers! It will be Minifig scale just- in scale terms its roughly 1:96 so technically it sits a little between Minifig and the weird Microscale (I think) size.

I will be doing an interior, I've planned out roughly what I intend to do but I need more Lego for that.

EDIT: here is a poor photo of scale, as well as some work on the back (and really early landing gear- the whole model is self supporting).
