Less than 5k cmdrs logging in now.

I wanna believe it!!@ really! But that other game beckons!!
I'm holding out cos I pray I'm wrong..truly
Then go play it! Elite will still be here if/when you get the itch again.

Seriously, I will never understand the need for people to be "loyal" to any specific game/franchise/developer etc. In the past 2 weeks alone I've played a little Elite, Star Citizen, and SW Squadrons, as well as some Overwatch, Halo, Battlefront 2, Planetside 2, Guild Wars 2, Universe Sandbox, Rocket League, Stick Fight, and Minecraft. Multiple genres, with multiple competing titles within some of those genres.

I have this revolutionary new method for whenever I sit down at my PC at the end of the day: I just play whatever I feel like playing at the time. Crazy, right?

If Elite's not doing it for you, just try something else for awhile (or a dozen something else's like me 😝).

I will still say that ED needs the following to bring the masses in:

  • optimization (make as smooth as horizons)
  • lighting really is bad. Why does my ship flash light do nothing in asteroids now? It’s so dark…
  • more optimization - build it to certify to run smooth on Intel Iris Xe graphics (like my XPS 13) and it will be another plus to the game. There is a reason why AAA titles like Overwatch, CS:Go etc are still popular. They run very well. The star forge and ingenuity of ED’s engine is a bright shining point to ED that shouldn’t be forgotten. Build upon that genius, and keep it simple. (we don’t need 4K shadows)
  • I want to pull out an arc welder to spot repair my ship like Han Solo. Or to fix my FSD so I can GTFO. Seriously. This kind of attention to fixing ships, walking around ships, playing chess with a crew member during a long super cruise. This stuff would be really cool to have! EVA repairs, boarding abandoned ships like on The Abyss or Firefly. All that stuff. Give us more interaction with our own ships. I’d like to be able to crawl down a “Jeffrey’s tube” to replace a blown relay after my last battle. Etc. This would be cool to have! And I’m not joking. And you can make fun of me. I don’t care.

Just begs the question. Are they going to continue development of elite.?
Odyssey has cost em dear it seems.
The rebalance needs doing last year.
Exploits fixed
Networking fixed
Multicrew fixed
Piracy fixed
Smuggling fixed
Goid synths fixed
High profit gameplay loops closed.
I'm not a doom n gloomer. On the contrary.
I just want reassurance I'm not flogging a dead horse

Indeed so, it is going to take a while longer to finish 'fixing' Odyssey, then, if it can be ported to consoles (if) a few more months to do so.
If the 'fix' is a good one, more players might buy...

That's almost as stupid a statement as dissing steam usage estimates as of no value.

It doesn't matter that steam usage estimates are not 100% accurate, it's the trend that tells the tale. It's a major platform, you can't deny that however you try.
The trend is your friend, or in the case of ED/EDO, not.

How long?
"fixing" how?

8.01 updates after Odyssey release and it's still a hot mess of grind for grinds sake, credit sink bingo, janky performance++
Release notes padded with inconsequential minor fixes in an effort to look like it's packed full of gameplay goodness, when it's really just air pumped into a wet paper bag.

What is "a good one", given past performance is a predictor of something that still doesn't match the marketing promises.

Hope is not a strategy, neither is marketing with no substance.

That is a valid point (thanks for recapping). I squirrelled around page 5.

I would definitely appreciate a statement from FDev or at least a roadmap of what their plans are. Even if it becomes a new Elite. I’m down if they extend this one, or make a new one. But it would be very nice to see that they have plans to do more. If they did my suggestion of more “in cabin” activities, that could allow more in game purchases to decorate their ship interior (Ka-Ching), but arcade machines to put in your ship, or a chess board or whatever. Something weird like that. It would sell! And we’d appreciate that added immersion. “Hey guys, check out my new living quarters on the Python!”

You do realise there ar 24 seperate hours in each day, not just one? Steam stats give you the number of players at the moment of the snapshot.
That isn't semantics - that is fact...
Why not take a reading every hour for a week (sleep is overrated anyway) then average the number over a 24 hour period to get players per day, then multiply by 30 to get an average per month, then multiply that by 4 to include consoles, epic and frontier logins?

Usual tat, as I said 🤷‍♂️ :ROFLMAO:
Steam logs the averages for the history, you can just use that number. The whole graph is made from all the averages.

I will still say that ED needs the following to bring the masses in:

  • optimization (make as smooth as horizons)

That's the main thing, prior to Oddysey you could play EDH on a potato and now you pretty much require higher end hardware.. good luck running EDO on consoles.

Someone in Frontier really needs to sit down and ask is the visual quality in "x" situation worth the performance hit?

For one example replace "x" with stations (without getting out of your ship) and compare that to Horizons, why do stations in EDO tank so much performance vs EDH for literally no visual upgrade?

Grr... why cant I quote the title?
Anyway,

Your starting premise, less than 5k players logging in now, doesnt mean there are only 5k players.
It only means that at that particular moment in time there were 5k players in game

Assuming an average gaming session is 2h, that means 60,000 daily players.
Assuming someone plays ED once every 3 days, that means like 180,000 weekly players.
And assuming that 5k figure of yours was from Steam Charts - that's only Steam, without Frontier Launcher figures, Epic figures and Console Figures
But all these are madeup figures based on some starting numbers that may not be really anchored in reality.

Let me point out that in their financial report for 2020, they reported 500,000 monthly players.
Problem with these numbers:
Participants in the 3x FSD CG according to Inara: 6007.

Found any sweet grapes yet?
