My Block list is longer than yours.

Except it doesn't work like that at all. Matchmaking will prioritise wing members over blocks, allowing Bob to get into your instance even if he's blocked by HallMonitor.
No, that's not right. I did a test where I blocked someone on my friends list while I was winged with him, and we repeatedly couldn't instance together. That was a few years ago but FD have tightened block since.

Block lists are nothing to boast about and they're a very blunt tool for a complex problem, but they're what FD have chosen to give us instead of the proper solution of a PvE mode. If there are instancing problems, blame FD, not players using the provided game features.

BTW I think a lot of the instancing problems in Open are because of the internet, not block, but of course it's impossible to be sure.

:ROFLMAO:

Imagine playing Elite:Hall Monitor.

We're blocking people over ship builds now, are we?
Yes I am blocking based on builds. I'm sure that you understand the mechanics behind those builds, and that their functionality is exclusively around snare, cripple and burst - gank lulz.

You seem to be trying really hard to denigrate me personally rather than address the underlying mechanics. Why be so sad about use of the game mechanics as designed? This tool is as fair to use as the mechanics that allow for those builds to exist in game. You can choose to play the game as you see fit, and so can I. Enjoy.

the thing is... if i am a peaceful lawful player that is prepared for ganks with some kind of pvp equip, i would get blocked too. i just find it kinda funny... explicitly taking time to look for playrs to block on some far fetched criteria sounds more like control fetish to me :p no offense meant. everyone is responsible for tailoring his/hers own experience and you are doing it well. i dont agree but approve.
You run OC Frags or APAs with Grom Bombs, drag munis, etc. on a miner/explorer/AX/Res sustain farming build? Please. You are not being honest.

It's not a fetish. It's creating a coop open mode. It works great.

One could (rightfully) argue that blocking is, in fact, passive aggressive griefing.

Short scenario:

I'm friends with CMDR Bob. I like Bob. You're his nephew. CMDR Bob and I want to get together at Space Station Steve to do some mission running and emote to our hearts content in Steve's bar. I jump into the system and dock at the Triple S. CMDR Bob says he's there but I can't find him. We spend the next twenty minutes logging in, logging out, trying to instance together. It never works out, we get frustrated and both log off, grumpy.

The issue? CMDR Bob and I occasionally PvP at the Triple S. The other night, I logged off early and Bob sat in the station, reading GalNet. CMDR HallMonitor over here scanned his build, blocked him because fEe FeE's and gWeeFuR. CMDR HallMonitor was in the instance with me. I saw him. But CMDR Bob had no way of knowing he'd been blocked by CMDR HallMonitor, nor would I have had any reason to think, so CMDR HallMonitor ruined our evening and all he had to do was play future crime in the mailslot.

If you don't want PvP, stay in Private or solo and quit mucking up the instancing in Open.

kthnkbye.
I think you are getting at the underlying problem with the Block function as the official mechanic to moderate gameplay styles in the game.

I use it because it is the only tool to have open coop interactions, and not be pestered by non-coop minded players.

I would prefer that the game had authentic open pvp pve partitions like most of the MMOs out there, but ED is what it is.

The reality is that my list of 165 is exceedingly small given the total player base, and the fact that I play in a time zone very likely very different than your friend's.

Is it passive aggressive griefing? I have no interest in interacting with players that use those builds so it isolates me, not them. If you would like me to block you so that you would not have your instances bothered by my presence in the game, I would be happy to do that.

I'm not trying "really hard" to do anything. I just can not imagine spending what little time I have in-game to sit outside the mail slot, scan hollow squares, read their build sheet, and then navigate to the social menu and block them if they're running grom-bombs.

Why be so sad about use of the game mechanics as designed?
Because it's destroying instancing for the rest of us. It doesn't just affect you. Your block list messes with the instancing for everyone else in your instance. Go to Mobius if you want Open PvE.

oh seven, guv.

That's because there's no publicly available public list for everyone.
If you use an antivirus you usually use a shared antivirus database.
SCUID Guard also uses shared databases, etc.

If you go back in my post history you know I don't like ganking. I'm a peaceful easy going player. Yet you would block me if you encountered me in the wild just because of my build. I run a frag mamba on occasion, overcharged, drag munitions, all that jazz. Because it is fun to fly and efficient to farm NPC bounties with, and in a team or even solo it is hilarious in a CZ. I love it, and basically flying through a small NPC ship like an eagle with just one or two trigger pulls is just hilarious. I would never point that gun at a human player, yet you would block me.

Think about that.

Yes, it says that some players in online games are as annoying as computer viruses. Both have potential to interrupt my gaming if I don't make sure I'm defended.
You're sanitising it a bit imo. One could say similar of people who don't do powerplay and BGS in the "right" way, except that there are no extra tools to deal with those, you just have to bring friends (assuming that "gitting gudder" isn't an option). But I wouldn't stretch to using the same dehumanising analogy, personally. I'd view them as people who've made a bad set of choices.

Nah, pls don't waste time at trying to convince the OP about bad choices: let him live in his rainbows and unicorns game... :ROFLMAO:

I am even wondering what is the goal of coming on this sub and open this topic... because we can all be on his blocklist lol

Or may be most of us is in his ignore-list of the sub, so even worthless reply. 👋

Don't get me wrong; I believe in the power of blocking. If you're a Nixon to me in game, you're gone, at minimum for the rest of my play session. Just, use appropriate metrics to determine who to block and who not.

Not to forget that he's also potentially degrading your instancing possibilities..

Not that I'm either for or against PvP or ganking, but IMO open is the PvP mode and thus anything goes, the good with the bad. Too bad that they didn't make an open PvE too, but we have what we have.
