Oculus pre order information

Exactly. Valkyre is a PVP space shooter and will get old in about 3 days. Zero depth to that and absolutely not worth coughing up $599 for it. Sorry. And Star Citizen? Don't hold your breath on that one. At the rate that is going it's going to take another 2 years.

Yep SC will need a modern version of 'Big Blue' to run it in VR..

About 2 and half days longer than CQC then! :D It's much better than CQC by the way - I can say that now the NDA is lifted. It's not better than ED, because ED is a much bigger game but compared solely to CQC it is way more fun IMHO.

I'm sure it is better than CQC. The whole game is a dedicated shooter. But after playing ED, ED:Horizons, in VR, I'm not even interested in trying Valkyre. I'm certain Valkyre would be a blast, for about 2 hours, then onto the shelf, and I'd be right back into ED again. Could ED use more depth? Absolutely. But it is hands down the most incredible VR space gaming experience to date (IMHO). Been playing since the beginning and just can't stop having fun with it. It's just mind-blowing in VR. My nipples still get hard when I plop into my gaming chair, swing the HOTAS into place, gear up the DK2, launch ED and take off.

Got the cash, praying for Rift CV1, but will settle for HTC Vive if I have to.

Simply a by-product of the fact that that one (The rift) is a semi known quantity and that the vive is for all purpose a brand new unproven product.

Agreed. Those poll results are to be expected. The rift has been around for a while now and working. The closest I've gotten (like most people) to a Vive is a Youtube video :/

1500 dollars... Do you even realize that it's almots the price of 3 rift? For almots same tech?
That's some really not credible rumors.

I wouldn't be surprised if the "PR geniuses" at HTC (sarcasm) were floating rumours like this so that when the price is released people are relieved. Basically the opposite of what Palmer did :)

I agree. Even if as we can see on the internet, some people don't need pr to lose commomn sense x) ( I saw a "1999 dollar HT" ... from someone)

At that kind of pricing, HTC will not sell very many uinits and simply drive up the sales of the Rift. Your average gamer isn't going to pay more for HTC when the Rift tech is just as good.

No Oculus Rift logo, but there is a HTC/Vive one

Sounds like a small thing, but what is really telling to me is that the Oculus Rift logo is missing from the footer of the main Elite Dangerous web page (https://www.elitedangerous.com/), yet the "HTC/VIVE" logo is there for all to see. I'm guessing Frontier has had a major falling out with Oculus (maybe the Eve Valkyrie inclusion, maybe something else?) so Frontier management feel burned and want to play down Oculus possibilities. Perhaps they expected more developer help and were denied it? Why else would you be so vague, non-committal, almost secretive? Maybe the falling out happened around the time when David B. was telling everyone that VR was over-hyped and not to expect too much from it? I remember being quite surprised by that (I'll see if I can find the article link). Makes no sense otherwise. Read between the lines (with or without a tinfoil hat) and it does seem like a bad sign. I've ordered a CV1 anyway, but will use it for Star Citizen if Frontier are upset with Oculus enough to offer only lukewarm support.

In any case, a mod could easily jump on now and say something like "We are fully committed to the Oculus Rift. When the consumer version is released at the end of March, we will definitely be implementing support as fast as possible. We are excited by the VR possibilities Oculus, HTC/Vive all have our full, equal support. We've added their logo back on our web page to show you we care." :)

Absolutely this. I have played with DK2 from the beginning and put all possible hours into this game. I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity to play on CV1, but I'm simply in the dark with the vague and noncommittal responses from FD. I would completely accept that there is an underlying issue with the Cobra engine blocking progress, but if so, tell us. We're more understanding than most mobs because in the end we love the product. What makes everyone tetchy is the lack of any real information.

If a mod said that it wouldn't mean anything! ;) They're volunteers, not employees, and generally do not have that level of detailed inside information.

You'd need an orange to say it, not a blue. :)

It would be foolish of them to put the Oculus logo on the web page knowing that the game is not currently compatible with the consumer version. The HTC Vive logo is on there because they have officially announced support for that product. No conspiracy theories necessary.

Website design and development decisions are hardly synchronised or binding to each other.

Official word is (from the start of this thread).

I wanted to just make a quick post to confirm that we are still actively working with Oculus but currently the only SDK we are able to officially support is 0.6.

If you have a commercial game release are you going to put time and resource into changing your graphics engine to work with a BETA SDK when the release SDK is only months away and cannot be confirmed to be compatible? Or would you (sensibly) wait until the final SDK is available and assign development time for that?

Frontier appear to be going to for latter.

SDK1.0 was released to select developers late last year. The news release said it was for developers shipping their product "imminently". ED is already released so would qualify I reckon but FD haven't stated whether they have SDK1 and CV1 hardware. I would imagine they do though, no reason they wouldn't.

And developers without v1.0 were told to implement v0.8 because it's essentially the final thing minus a few details that make CV1 support a bit better. If they can support v0.8, it will work in v1.0 as well.

Very disappointing FDEV. It would be really nice if we could actually get a straight answer as to what exactly the hold up is. :(
Have you even remotely considered that it's OR that's the cause of the issue? Stop blaming Frontier for something that may be completely out of their hands. If they can comment, they will. Your assumptions are causing you grief.

(Assume this)
- OR is demanding exclusivity, with no other VR products to be supported if you want an OR CV1 dev license for your game.
- OR is asking for a huge amount of money or % of profits for manufacturers to use their CV1 code.
- OR is coding their SDK in a way that disrupts existing game code and FDevs have to find a solution.

Given Frontiers historical support for VR (And controllers and head tracking and multi-screen and an almost endless list of other cool stuff), it's not unreasonable to assume that there's deeper issues here than they can talk about publicly at the moment.
