Ok FDev, we need to talk.

And yet, there are people who have lives and work and still don't complain. Thinking about it, probably those who complain all day are the people without a live and work.

Sure they don't come here to complain, not all of them. Either they quit and move on or simply just play so little they don't care right, or or or.... many or's.

You see my rep on the forums, its low right?! Does that mean that I have no experience with the game? I think I just hit 1000h, which is not a lot for this game.

That means, I never came before to the forums to WHINE or COMPLAIN because I DO have work and A LOT of folks just like me where voicing there concerns about TIME vs REWARD and didn't need to repeat it!

Why am I here now?! because its gotten to the point of absurdity the amount of grind for this game. Why else? because I care! because I also think this game is beautiful and could be SO MUCH more than endless grinding!

To end with your supposed "COMEBACK".

Thinking about it, probably those who DON'T complain about TIME vs REWARD are the people who actually HAVE TOOO much time in their hands.

So much that whenever they are not playing they are in the forums kissing FD backside and saying to everyone else>>> "everything is fine, nothing to see here".

BTW nice amount of rep you have, spend much time in the forums with a coffee cup?

I wanted to put this in the focused feed back but I see that it has moved on and I didn't want to get removed. FDev, you are the intended audience for this post.

First, let me give you a bit of background on my CMDRs. I have two Elite accounts on my Xbox. My first account is a deep space exploration account. This account has over 12 weeks of in game time and tens of thousands of systems tagged with it's name. My second account is my bubble account. This account is approaching 10 weeks of in game time, is approaching double elite and a member of the cutter club. I have been an active CMDR since the GPP on Xbox. I tell you this because I want you to understand this is coming from a long time, even if relatively silent member of this community.

Secondly, a little background on myself. I am a life long gamer. I have a successful career that has blessed me with a modest amount of disposable income that I can spend on recreation. Over the last few years, I would spend 20-30 hours a week in game. My wife and I welcomed our first child in November so my in game time has been cut drastically. An average week may see me log 5-7 hours of game time, mostly on Friday and Saturday nights after I have gotten our son to sleep. Forgive the back story, the relevance of this will be apparent later in the post.

FDev,
Let me start by saying you have put out a beautiful game. It is truly one of a kind and the fact that I have spent more time in this game than any other since I left WoW during the Kungfu Panda era is a testament to that fact. That being said, I think the time for me to move on is rapidly approaching and I feel I owe you an explanation of why.

Another CMDR, in a post that appears to have already been removed, said it best. You've wasted my time FDev and my time is more valuable than just about anything I have to offer right now. I just don't have enough of it and unfortunately I have become rather protective of the time that I am fortunate enough to have to relax and you simply seem to not value it as much as I do.

Your engineering system is frankly broken and borderline abusive of the people who keep your project afloat and alive. I understand the major trend in game design for the last several years has been to find a way to keep your gamers in your game as much as possible, but this has crossed a line. I also understand the major focus of the changes to engineering were an attempt to alleviate some of the RNG aspects of the mechanic. I understand all these factors, but in doing so you have taken a mechanic that already was a bit "grindy" and in an effort to fix a different failed aspect of it, made it more grindy. At the end of the day, I can't get past the fact that I had already max engineered several of my ships and you are forcing me to go through this effort again, an effort mind you, that I wasn't really fond of in the first place, but for the sake of the game I chose to participate in. I understand you've built in a sort of "opt out" so to speak. I can simply just choose not to participate and keep my "legacy" mods in place and call it a push. I contend this isn't really an option. You are asking me to not participate in an aspect of a game that frankly I paid for with hard earned money. That seems like an pretty unacceptable option to me. I understand this grind is moderated (only ever so slightly, tbh) by the material traders, but when I start looking at the numbers, I have spent every single hour in game since the launch of Beyond trying to catch my exploraconda up and I am still not done. This is maddening.

My time is so limited FDev. My options are not. This grind is a monumental waste of time. I can spend an entire week worth of game time trying to find one mat for one G5 upgrade and come up empty handed. This is a huge was of time and frankly I expect some sort of reward for the time I spend in game. To be fair, maybe "reward" is the wrong term. At a minimum I expect to have progressed towards my goal in some sort of fashion. To spend what little time I have available in a given week in your game and to come up empty handed is just something I can't tolerate any more.

I've thought long and hard about this FDev and it is a sad day, but I think the time has come to move on. Coming from a life long ( I am 41) gamer, this is an amazing time in the gaming industry. There are so many amazing games out there right now and so many amazing options for me to spend what little time I do have to relax and frankly FDev, you have failed us here.

DWE2 is on my radar so I may just get my Conda geared up and ready to go for that and come back, but for now, the time has come to say goodbye.

CMDR Azazul/Xerbeross signing off. Good luck CMDRs and Fly Safe o7.
I don’t usually post in these “I’m leaving, throw me a pity party” threads.

But this just has me irritated. Get over yourself. I’m a 45 year old. Professional career with a high pressure job in semi-conductor R&D. Disposable income. Wife, kid, mortgage. I feel fortunate.

I set my alarm for 5am every morning and play about an hour before I get ready for work. Sometimes I get a free evening.

I’ve been playing since launch. I have a single Anaconda and a Cobra Mk 3 and about 60 million in the bank. No elite ranks.

I’ve NEVER felt that clicking launch and finding myself in my ship and roaming about the galaxy doing everything that takes my fancy a waste of time.

Some days I play other games too, but Elite is always a relaxing escape and the cockpit of my ship and the chatter of my cheeky NPC fighter pilot feels like home.

The new engineering system is much better them the previous one, previously depended on luck, and for the grinders it could be a never ending work. Cant see the point !!!!!????

I could be wrong, but it really seems the point ends up being, everyone can get the best rolls now, with vastly less work.

Meaning God rolled gank ships aren't that special anymore, meaning everyone will have the ability to get top teir ships. Meaning pvp players should end up mor balanced.

Meaning some people can't just go steamroll every CMDR in the universe as easily now, and well skill should become more important over mods.

Meaning some people are unhappy their power is being lessened because they aren't as good as they think, or claimed, they just had a huge advantage.

Basically they don't like people like me, who struggled to get any G5 rolls, let alone a single good one before. But I've now gotten mats, and the ability to get some. I have gotten so many more of the rarer mats through, sometimes horrible, and sometimes smart trades with the traders.

The one valid complaint with new engineers was very well explained in an OBsidian Any video.

You can't just go get a quick couple of G5 rolls immediately on anew module. All new modules have to have several lower tier rolls before you can apply a G5

I feel it's a fair compromise considering all special magical mods can be had easily for mats anytime you want now.

No one wasted your time but you. If your time is so precious then stop playing video games.

Wow, I'm would have been sure someone in that line of work would have been able to get the point. Bad assumption on my part.
It’s just differing opinions and expectations of what you fee the developer is obligated to provide you. You feel your time is wasted.

I’m in a similar place in my life and I still find the relaxing escapism in flying my ship rewarding. Even after 4 years. It’s entertainment. I don’t agree with all the design choices, but my energy is spent on other life priorities.

If the game becomes something that brings me frustration, I’ll just not play it and move on. Like you said, there are lots of options.

And this is supposed to carry any weight?
If you try to show off here you're doing it all wrong.

to the other ducks:
i do get where you come from, guys, but mocking every ragequit post doesn't change the fact that they are becoming increasingly frequent. you might feel good and get away with direspecting these players, but you still need them for the game to be supported in the long run. way to throw stones at your own ... ships. just saying.

You seem to be confusing ducks with other animals, as my reply to:

.....and frankly FDev, you have failed us here.

Define "us". I happen to like the new Engineering system.

No mocking or disrespect, just setting the record straight that OP doesn't speak for the collective whole, and that many of us actually enjoy the thing he claims "is frankly broken and borderline abusive". That is all.

There ya go. Exactly the point and much more reasonable.

I no longer feel that way and I have been a part of this community and this game has been part of my life for long enough that I feel like I should explain my issues with it. It really is that simple.

Fair point duck. The other side of that is there are fair number who do agree, a fair number who don't and then trolls, just trolls. ... but I get your point.

I'm confused. If your ships already engineered, why would you have to engineer it again? If it's g5, and you want to convert it from legacy to current, you drop down to g4 max leveled, and only need g5 materials to upgrade it.

If you have a God roll, you won't gain anything by switching it to the new engineer.

Seems like a completely redundant complaint.

You make it sound like you are the majority!

How do you know?

Situations for every person are different, and what they might find broken you might not... this is an opinion

I for one, agree with Obsidian Ant, Yamics and many others who love this game (as am sure you do as well) that many aspects of the game just feel to grindy and broken, that is all.

How is that bad just because you don't agree with it?

Maybe English isn't your first language, but 'many' doesn't mean 'majority'.

Is English not your first language? I would have said "most of us" instead of "many of us" if I was implying a majority. How do I know there are "many"? Because "many" people have said so in this forum (feel free to look it up if you doubt me). My post has nothing to do with whether the OP himself likes or dislikes engineering, but rather his declaration that Frontier is abusing (his word) "us". Hence my reply to challenge him to define "us", because I'm not part of his "us", nor are the other players who have posted their approval for the new Engineers.

Holy ninja sleutelbos, you read my mind!

Yeah you are right, English is not my first language. (I know what you did there though, nice try)

Let me try what you just did...

Maybe READING is not your thing, I was quoting CMDR Old Duck on "just setting the record straight that OP doesn't speak for the collective whole" Where is this 'many' you speak off.

well I can do the same thing. "Many" people have said so in this forum as well (feel free to look it up if you doubt me). Maybe we should start doing stats of how many people agree or disagree and then define "MANY"

BTW doesn't 'collective whole' imply majority?!

Am sorry, you know... since English is not my fist language....

And yet, there are people who have lives and work and still don't complain. Thinking about it, probably those who complain all day are the people without a live and work.

That would be yours truly...living off the sweat of yer taxes with my feet up playing games all day. Im an unemployed single father raising my autistic daughter alone...if ye knew even a fraction of what real life was like, ye would appreciate some of us have all the reason in the world to complain but dont.

Then again, theres a reason why I dont work...I also happen to have an incurable disease that means having a pension is sorta pointless at this stage. Gives one a enlightening attitude towards others who complain and moan about what are truly the most trivial of things...in simple terms, Im laughing at most of it, agreeing with some points here and there but mostly just shaking me head when other people talk about real life issues. Ye want real life issues, then pull up a chair, I got a whole list ye wont find in yer average soap opera.

But do I complain? A wee bit here and there but by and large, not really...what life I do have left is fairly comfy due to all yer hard efforts in yer jobs and the meds...oh my the free meds...funny thing being when I was able to work, I had to buy this stuff from old uncle Billys missus round the back the estate. Nowadays, they literally throw the stuff at me apparently expecting a good outcome...so naive the health service they have no idea what just hit them ^
