Ok FDev, we need to talk.

I set my alarm for 5am every morning and play about an hour before I get ready for work. Sometimes I get a free evening.

Now thats where I've been going wrong....

My alarm is set for 5am but i go out for a run for an hour before kids wake up and I have to go to work.....
Why didnt i think of this as game time? Think how many more blueprints and materials i could have collected.

I do also sometimes go for a run, or fly fishing. Don’t tell FD.

So FD has wasted your time.
Then what have you been doing all these weeks of playtime?
If FD wasted your time then obviously you didn't have any fun, right?

If you had fun playing ED untill now then your time certainly wasn't wasted.
If you feel that you're wasting time now playing ED then by all means go play something else.

In short, if FD has wasted your time then you took way to long to figure that out.

What compels you to even make this comment.
Talk about wasted time....

All this talk of fly fishing...and then guys who looks very...demanding and holding a device that makes the hairs on the back of me cheeks stand to attention...

Down with ye! Down I say! Blood pressure not fly, sorry...carry on ^

That would be yours truly...living off the sweat of yer taxes with my feet up playing games all day. Im an unemployed single father raising my autistic daughter alone...if ye knew even a fraction of what real life was like, ye would appreciate some of us have all the reason in the world to complain but dont.

Then again, theres a reason why I dont work...I also happen to have an incurable disease that means having a pension is sorta pointless at this stage. Gives one a enlightening attitude towards others who complain and moan about what are truly the most trivial of things...in simple terms, Im laughing at most of it, agreeing with some points here and there but mostly just shaking me head when other people talk about real life issues. Ye want real life issues, then pull up a chair, I got a whole list ye wont find in yer average soap opera.

But do I complain? A wee bit here and there but by and large, not really...what life I do have left is fairly comfy due to all yer hard efforts in yer jobs and the meds...oh my the free meds...funny thing being when I was able to work, I had to buy this stuff from old uncle Billys missus round the back the estate. Nowadays, they literally throw the stuff at me apparently expecting a good outcome...so naive the health service they have no idea what just hit them ^

I'd love to pull up a chair and chat man but then we would only turn into two grumpy old men.
Complaining about things that aren't crucial, like a computer game, can be a nice outlet though.

"How do I know there are "many"? Because "many" people have said so in this forum (feel free to look it up if you doubt me)."

well I can do the same thing. "Many" people have said so in this forum as well (feel free to look it up if you doubt me). Maybe we should start doing stats of how many people agree or disagree and then define "MANY"

BTW doesn't 'collective whole' imply majority?!

Am sorry, you know... since English is not my fist language....
I feel you miss the point old duck was making. He's saying that by using the word "us", the OP is erroneously assuming that he/she speaks for everyone, when that clearly isn't the case. By just scanning through this thread and others like it, you can see that there are many people on both sides of the argument. It would also be wrong to assume that a consensus on these forums would be representative of the entire player base. The majority of players don't actually use these forums, so we don't really known their opinions.

Hey man yer one the few people I have on my friends list that still play, and I know ye still play cos I see ye online nearly every single day. The game is distraction fer me in ways few would really understand...me wee lady inherited her own special version of teenager rebellion from one who was well and truly there where she is now back in the 70s and early 80s UK. When corporal punishment was still legal...my teenage years were...unorthadox.

The black has no memory...and she is a jealous mistress...she does not share her world with real life...some stories are best never being told...not to such delicate and naive young minds as can be found in this politically correct age we find ourselves muddling through. A refugee from an era when we had a sense of humour about these things and didnt take ourselves so seriously all the time ^

So true man, things we took for granted, or not but we just sucked it up, are no go zones these days.
Elite is a nice distraction from times I couldn't afford a distraction.
Ugh, complaining about real life just makes it worse, when I feel like flipping some tables I just look at the things that I don't like in ED.
Lol, every time someone blows a gasket on these forums I chuckle and think to myself "Life's a bit.. ain't it?"

Well, I can't say I'm too upset about the changes in engineering and have actually found the new system more to my liking. Especially the removal of a lot of the randomness from the process and the fact that I can choose experimental. Yet I think one change can go a long way in the Ol' QOL department. For the love of all that is holy, just put material traders at the engineering bases. You would think that material traders would have a big interest in setting up shop at an engineering base, considering that everybody heading there is going to be chock full of materials.

Actually while I'm at it, they can hopefully give a break on the exchange rate for us too. Or, how about tie it to your faction rep maybe? If you have a high rep with the controlling faction perhaps the trader will give you some nice discounts on the exchange rate, no? I know it's my choice to engineer or not to engineer, but I'm just feeling compelled to get everything engineered and done with, at least until I decide to buy a new ship of course. Anyway, It feels good to rant every once in a while [smile].

Good points, also let's not forget that you don't lose 2 levels of Reputation with an Engineer for putting an experimental which you had to get back again every time.

The new System favors those who are selective and know what they want in means of their ships. For Trading / Mission running, Exploration and Combat. It is harsh for the completionists though, on that I agree.

But then again, the grind in this game getting less and less, even with 3.0 now active. Compared to the games I played in the past, getting the most rare materials to craft the best upgrades is a joke, plain and simple.

I get the OP's point though. The insidious aspect of power creep is that "it's optional" doesn't really hold water. This is because future challenges in the game will assume the player has an optimal setup, ergo they must grind. I also agree about the issue of "respect"...
et al.

+1, and agreed with OP on this. I already spent the time grinding the items for Grade 5 access pre-3.0. Now the goalposts have been moved and I have to go through an even longer and more artificial and contrived grind just to earn back what I already had...? Come on.
