Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

Animals Permanently Removed-
1. Alpine Goat
2. Arctic Wolf
3. Bengal Tiger
4. Black Wildebeest
5. Formosan Black Bear
6. Himalayan Brown Bear
7. Tamworth Pig
8. Wild Water Buffalo
I would be totally fine with this, but I can see a case being made for the Bengal Tiger. It's the most iconic subspecies, and if the argument is that purebred Bengal Tigers aren't found in zoos that's actually not the case, Indian zoos have pure Bengal Tigers and even white Bengal Tigers, so it's not any different than Proboscis Monkeys for example which are only found in zoos in their native range.

Black wildebeest is also fine, it would be better to be replaced with another ungulate (like, any other ungulate) but it's not bad or offensive the way some of these other picks are.

Formosan Black Bear just needs to be renamed to Asian Black Bear and it'd be fine. If we're removing two bears though this is second in priority after Himalayan Brown Bear.

Features that haven't been in other zoo games before that could be added:
-Bring Back Petting Zoos But With Feeding Also (Well they already covered this in Planet Zoo 1 now but they should port it over to PZ 2 but with less weird domestic species and maybe only a couple of them in the base game, not an entire pack dedicated to domestics. It could just have pygmy/dwarf goats, a generic white sheep breed, and a generic miniature donkey breed, as all I normally see at petting zoos anyway are goats, sometimes sheep, and occasionally donkeys. A new feature that could be added would be to buy cups of special feed to feed the animals in the petting zoo as well as pet them. And of course, exotic animals like wallabies, smaller deer species, and smaller antelope species could also be included in the petting zoos.)
-Bring Back Animal Interactions including walking through habitats and viewing domes (Allow animal interactions with harmless animals even if they aren't petting zoo animals. Also allow guests to still walk in habitats with harmless animals again even if they can't interact with them. Bring back viewing domes.)
-Bring Back Safaris/Feeding and Photos Now Included as Well (Safari vehicle rides are back but the twist is that guests can now buy cups of feed to feed the animals and carry cameras with them. The safari rides will stop so guests can feed the animals and/or take photos of them.)
-Giraffe Feeding (Guests can buy lettuce and feed it to the giraffes.)
- Fish/ Fully Aquatic Animals/ Aquariums (Besides actual aquarium simulator games, the closest any other zoo games have gotten was to have Sea World type expansion packs which included mostly aquatic mammals like seals, dolphins, and whales. We need aquarium tanks and buildings where we can put fish and fully aquatic amphibians.)
-Flying Birds/Aviaries/ Parakeet Feeding Interaction (Besides a general aviary where birds can fly around the guests, many zoos also have an area where you can feed parakeets nectar on sticks.)
-Reptile and Amphibians Houses (Be able to build terrariums for reptiles and amphibians and put them in a building that becomes the zoos Reptile House. This is a necessity in cold-climate area zoos in real-life.)
-Nocturnal Animal Houses (Perfect for bats and other strictly nocturnal animals to be comfortable in a nice, dark indoor space.)

-Reptile and Amphibians Houses (Be able to build terrariums for reptiles and amphibians and put them in a building that becomes the zoos Reptile House. This is a necessity in cold-climate area zoos in real-life.)
How are those not added in PZ tho? Yeah the exhibits are pretty clunky to use and i really want them improved, but reptile houses are 100% something you can already build

I expect a different type of DLCs, maybe bigger expansions like Zoo Tycoon. I'm tired of these dozens slices of contents every 3 months. PZ2 needs a new and more interesting way to expand.

I don’t know if its remotely possible, but a solution to the PZ1 DLC problem could be that, if PZ2 runs on the same engine, then if you purchased any PZ1 DLC already, you can add them to PZ2 for free. The base PZ2 roster should be the same as PZ1, but also include the pre-order and anniversary animals plus some more additions:

1. Pacific Walrus
2. Secretary Bird
3. Blackbuck
4. Gelada
5. North American Black Bear
6. Javan Rhinoceros
7. Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
8. Golden Lion Tamarin
9. Black Spider Monkey
10. Green Iguana (graduates from being an exhibit animal)
11. Lesser Antillean Igauana
12. Nile Crocodile
13. Coati
14. Western Capercallie
15. Himalayan Monal

Pre-Order Bonus
1. Olive Baboon
2. Rockhopper Penguin
3. Macaw (various species - WE)

For Exhibit animals, they need to figure out a way to make it so they have more animations because being stationary is pretty boring.

For the most part, the major features in PZ2 should be aviaries and aquariums, with about 8-9 species on each side for base. There should also be smaller exhibit fish and birds too.

Since it has been brought up a few times, do you think the iguanas will be upgraded to habitat animals? Would you support this? How about the sloth, which we know was originally planned as one before being too difficult to work?

Planet Zoo 2 will likely be using an upgraded engine from the one seen in Planet Coaster 2. Similar frameworks, but not really the same.
Also, let's not assume Frontier will be benevolent when it comes to DLC. We already saw that they're more than happy to re-sell old content at premium pricing in JWE2 and PC2

So following the awesome announcement of PC2, let's discuss PZ2. Here are soem questions:
  1. What do you think will be in PZ2?
  2. What will be the key new features?
  3. How much of the current roster will transfer to the sequel?
  4. What are your hopes?
  5. What do you hope not to see in a sequel?
  6. What feature from what's announced in PC2 will you want in PZ2?
  7. What do you think will be the base roster of the sequel? And how many species?
Here's what I hope for that latest zoo game (mobile and apps excluded) to have.
  1. American black bear (last of all eight bear species to be there)
  2. Any Australian monitor lizard species
  3. Masai giraffe
  4. Rockhopper penguin
  5. Gentoo penguin
  6. Squirrel monkey
  7. Any two-toed sloth while three-toed one was already there
  8. Flying birds and aviary ideas
  9. Fish (last of five groups of vertebrates (backbone ones) to be there
  10. For exhibit: toad, gecko, chameleon, cobra and maybe smaller rodents?
  11. Ways to house larger snakes like king cobra, green anaconda and larger pythons

I'll pick and choose some of Yoav's questions since I already kind-of answered some (either here or elsewhere)
  1. What do you think will be in PZ2?
  2. What will be the key new features?
I think the big selling points will be aviaries and aquaria. Bats and butterflies might be moved over to the avaries if we're lucky.
  1. How much of the current roster will transfer to the sequel?
I think most of the roster will be safe, but I 100% expect cuts from PZ's final roster to PZ2's base roster. This does not spark joy
  1. What do you hope not to see in a sequel?
Paying premium for existing species is the big one for me, but I expect it to happen anyways... I'd also not like a big emphasis on building, and more emphasis on being able to sit down with each habitat and spend a little time at it without your entire zoo collapsing because time moves too fast.
  1. What feature from what's announced in PC2 will you want in PZ2?
Object scaling, gameplay-relevant weather, and improved pathing are all big for me
  1. What do you think will be the base roster of the sequel? And how many species?
I think we'll probably get 120 habitat animals from PZ1's roster and 10-30 new species. Either exhibit animals stay entirely or see huge reworks and 5-10 additions (complete with cuts, of course). Then we get separate sections for aviaries and aquaria adding 10-20 species each.

Best case scenario for base would probably be 180~ habitat species. All the PZ1 species (153), the iguanas and sloth getting upgraded, and then 12 aviary birds as habitat species and 12 fully aquatic habitat species. I don't expect this to happen but I wouldn't say it is impossible.

That'd leave us with 39 exhibit species, not sure how many new ones we could expect but if exhibits are reworked (and especially if we get small birds and fish) then I could see up to 60 in the base game. I also really help that we will get more than 1 exhibit species per DLC, the roster is really dire. Ideally we'd get the same amount of habitat to exhibit but I'd at least hope for (assuming pack sizes remain the same) 2 per scenery pack and 3/4 per animal pack.

Will Planet Zoo 2 give cougar a full subspecies name (probably and maybe excluding Florida panther)? And my favorite (and hope) is the subspecies from Rocky Mountains since some DK games and most Cabela's games. That's the best known cougar subspecies, anyone think so?

At this point, zoological consensus is that there are only two subspecies--Northern and Southern. The Florida panther is just a distinct population of the former.

I would hope not. Cougars to my knowledge are managed in zoos at a species level. I would assume most cougars in the US for example are of the northern subspecies or hybrids, but since modern zoos don't make a distinction, I hope PZ won't either.

Question to all. Say you design the base game roster of PZ2 with a 100 habitat animals, you can only add up to 10 new habitat species, and port the rest habitat animals from PZ to PZ2 basegame. Which 100 animals do you pick for the PZ2 base game?

Assume if it's an older model from PZ it gets updated to the current model standard.
This proved to be much harder than I thought it'd be (this will assume that iguanas are elevated to habitat status).

Adding another 10 species would look something like this:
  • Eastern Long-Beaked Echidna
  • Green Sea Turtle
  • Mantled Howler
  • Matschie's Tree-kangaroo
  • Muskox
  • Nilgai
  • Red-Legged Seriema
  • Roseate Spoonbill
  • Superb Lyrebird
  • White-Nosed Coati
Edit: swap red pandas for the gharial, completely forgot about it

I want 300 animals in the base game roster for PZ2.

By and large, keep the 195 animals in PZ1 (assuming no more DLCs).

Add 35 fish/coral species, 35 flying bird species, and 35 requested species that didn't make PZ1 (with an emphasis on small mammals, monkeys, exhibit reptiles, insects, amphibians, and land/water birds).

That type of roster of 300 animals is adequate to build a realistic zoo (which we can't currently do). A good round number for marketing as well. And still plenty of scope for future DLCs with mixed rosters of birds, fish, land animals...

PZ2 needs better cat models, almost all of them in PZ1 aren't too photo realistics like reptiles and ungulates from the same game. It sems the devs have few know how to make furries.
