Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

I would say the first DLC could be:
Planet Zoo 2: Amazon animal pack:
Manatee/Jaguar [Headliner]
Jaguar/Manatee
Geoffrey's spider monkey
Spectacled Caiman
Bush Dog
Roseate spoonbill
Harpy Eagle [A]
Green Anaconda [E]
Geoffeoy's spider monkey don't live in the Amazon though.

Spectacled caiman is not something i would pay twice for. Is one of those DLC animals that i want in the base game roster.

I would add the Giant otter though... And no manatee. I don't need an amazonian manatee, i want the west Indian manatee first... Arapaima on the other hand...

Lemme try with that title;

Jaguar [Headliner]
Tufted Capuchin
Giant Anteater
Bush Dog
Red-rumped Agouti
Roseate Spoonbill [A]
Linnaeus Two-toed Sloth[WE]
Green Anaconda [E]

I hope they keep the Barnyard Animal Pack setup for the sequel. For me, it was the perfect mix of more animals and something for us builders to play with.

Based on that + the fact that there "have to" be fully aquatic and flying birds, in my opinion the setup should look something like this. (btw, I hope they do away with the exhibit system completely for the sequel and just give us animated animaltronics for the very tiny animals that we can place freely)

1. Cat/Dog/Bear (Carnivore)
2. Ungulate [1]
3. Ungulate [2]
4. Reptile
5. Rodent/etc
6. Fish/etc
7. Bird
And 60-80 scenery items (I also think that's enough, many of the pieces we got aren't really usable, and considering that we might also get scaling in PZ2, it's unnecessary to get more than that.)

I just hope that they put a little more effort into it and put together a really diverse pack.

Something like that format would be nice but i don't think it should be so strict that don't get out of it. I don't mind a pack with more than 1 carnivores or 2 ungulates and not every pack can/should have a rodent or habitat reptiles but i do hope all packs have at least one bird lol

But i think Big scenery packs will still be pretty much a thing. Is what half the fan base likes to play with and gives lots of options for building. I do hope they do add at least one more habitat animal to the mix. Four is too few 🥲

Id be very dissapointed if a PZ2 only did barnyard style packs. Yes it did include some piece so the builders dont have to go a full year without getting anything, but they were neither (apart for a handfull of exceptions) very usefull or versatile.
I think its pretty much comparable to scenery only packs with an exhibit animal include for the animal people to play with.

It works well for the stage we are at in planet zoo 1 because we already have alot of build sets and whats most missing is miscellaneous stuff whereas the roster at this stage is more important.

I however agree that it would horrible if the sequel only did this style pack we would never get sufficient build items for it to ever be useful

I actually think this type of pack is ideal. Both sides benefit from it.
In retrospect, especially if you look at the early DLCs, there was a lot of nonsense and duplicate stuff. I don't think I even used the ice wall set or the double bamboo and temple building set. And remember, if we get the scaling (which I'm just assuming), it won't be necessary to offer wooden posts in 3 different sizes. That reduces the pieces used effectively quite a bit.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say a pack with 6 animals + 120 building pieces or a pack with 7 animals + 60 building pieces is completely sufficient, maybe a hot take on my part.

Im not really sure how much scaling would really reduce the need amount of pieces in a pack.
I mean you cant just take a 2m wooden beam and shrink it to get a 1m one of the same type, the width of the beam would also change, aswell as the texture. So you would still need multiple lengths for a wooden beam set for example.
Same for walls, the texture is generally made so it lines up and blends seemlessly with other wall pieces, shrinking them would also shrink the texture, making scaling pretty much a downgrade from the current approach.

Scaling definetly would be cool, but its not gonna replace having 3 lenghts of beams for example

I know what you mean. Nevertheless, I think 60-120 pieces every 1/4 year are enough. By the way, it also comes down to the same thing whether we wait half a year and then get 250 pieces half of which are so niche that you never use them anyway. Then I prefer to have fewer pieces, but better selected ones.

It really depends on how the scaling works. If it's just shrinking, I agree with you, then we need different lengths so that the thickness stays the same. In my world, we can use the X, Y and Z axes freely for scaling. You are absolutely right about the texture, I hadn't even thought about that. Oh my god, it would really annoy me if the textures didn't fit together anymore, it already annoys me that some parts don't fit together.

I've tried to come up with a roster for base game that i would be happy with but is nearly imposible. I just don't want to pay twice for animals that are already good. Some could use better animations, models, skins, etc. so they would be ok for paid DLCs but a lot of them (mostly all the animals we got in the last packs) are just as good as they can get already.

Climbing animals, early DLC animals, more birds, more reptiles and some of the base game animals (snow leopard, spotted hyena, giant panda, gharial, green iguana, some bears, okapi, etc) would be good for DLCs in a sequel but a lot other need to be in base game because: 1) they are AbC animals for a zoo Game (lions, tigers, zebras, giraffes, rhinos, elephants) or 2) they already as good as they can be (wisent, boar, alpaca, dromedary, kiwi, swan, etc).

So that begs the question. Which current animals in the game would you pay twice for in a sequel's DLCs?

I think a sequel needs big names for DLCs and i think animals like the Giant panda, the snow leopard, spotted hyena, etc are all appealing enough and not as "essential" for base roster to be left for DLCs and bring in sales.
No matter what, you will have to pay for the animals "twice" , be they in base game or DLCs. However, they likely will improve the models by then.

I assume we could get a lot more new themes like for resorts, underater, cabin... They didn't cover everythin in PZ1

I assume we could get a lot more new themes like for resorts, underater, cabin... They didn't cover everythin in PZ1
There are for sure new themes or reimagings of existing themes they could add to the sequel just as pz1 stands the amount of full build sets is enough. this was more challenging the idea that pz2 should immediately start with barnyard style packs making build set beyond those released initially almost non existent which is I disapprove of.

So after much thought, i think i came up with a (very large) list of animals that i think should be in the base roster of the sequel and that would please me enough. I think is very unlikely, since between the habitat (around 130 animals) and the exhibit boxes/aquariums/aviaries (around another 40) it comes to almost 200 animals. Some could be removed and added later in DLCs for sure, and that's actually what i did with some "big names" that we currently have, because i believe that aquariums and birds alone won't be enough to sale the packs. You need popular well known animals in there as well, so i selected the ones that i think would be charismatic enough and if delayed, wanted and requested enough, that when they come out in a DLC they will drive in sales for that DLC.

I included some flying animals (mostly birds) in base game but not a lot. I think most of them should be left for DLCs. And i think aquatic animals will be a big part of the sequel but included them all as "DLC options". Maybe a new type of exhibit like small aquariums could provide some small and simple ones in the base game. Touch pools and fish ponds could be implemented later one much like WTE where in our game.

So here it goes... large list incoming under spoilers.

Note: in bold animals from the base game that would be later added in the DLCs but also animals that SHOULD 100% be added through DLCs. The rest are just sugestions.
Note2: I didn't add any fully aquatic animal outside of the West Indian Manate because there are too many to count but ofc they would be 100% options for DLC animals as well.

Anniversary animals: proboscis monkey, dama gazelle, quokka - i think the anniversary animals should be ones that were cool we got in base game but kind of controversial, that way they would be added for free and no one has to see them taking another slot in another DLC again haha and it would be cool if we not only get habitat animals but a new exhibit box animal along with them, to expand both rosters.

I hope for animals to look more unique from each other. Different antlers, tails, patterns, manes, horns, etc... Also it would be cool to transfer animals between sandbox zoos IMO. In the sequel I hope you could make time go slower.

Frankly I'd be mad at Frontier if any animal from the first game, base or DLC, was sold in a DLC in the sequel. They already have the models, sounds, and animations, and JWE2 managed not to sell any prehistoric creature from the first game as DLC (except for the Huayangosaurus and the Secrets of Dr. Wu hybrids), so why can't Planet Zoo do the same and have every DLC animal from the first game be part of the base game in the sequel?

The year is 2029, after 2 years of development Planet Zoo 2 finally gets another monkey! It’s the capuchin again.

Honestly me too... But i don't see it likely. And since a lot of animals from base game really need a remake, selling some of them in DLCs with an improved version could be an option so we get a high quality version of the animal and they get some popular animals to make the DLCs appealing.
