Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

I think most animals will be back, again look at pc2 only a couple rides from the first aren’t in and they’re being bundled in dlc with new rides. The scenery is what looks like definitely won’t be in the base game

Question to all. Say you design the base game roster of PZ2 with a 100 habitat animals, you can only add up to 10 new habitat species, and port the rest habitat animals from PZ to PZ2 basegame. Which 100 animals do you pick for the PZ2 base game?

Assume if it's an older model from PZ it gets updated to the current model standard.

  98. Add flying bird of your choice here
  99. Add flying bird of your choice here
  100. Add flying bird of your choice here

As most of you know by now, I'm not good with birds, so I stayed away from filling in most of the bird slots.

Now, this was fun, but I feel this list is in no way realistic. Too many very popular animals that just need to sell DLCs.
With some species I changed the name to something more generic, hope that doesn't count as changing the animals.

Also: I'm sorry antilope lovers, but they were just overkill.

I just wish us reptile, bird and primates people will be treated a little better
Meanwhile fish people
These things are gonna define if I get PZ2 when it comes out. Will it probably have new and amazing stuff? Most definitely, especially based on the PC2 building.

But after a couple years of modding PZ2 needs better diversity than what mods can provide me for PZ1. Considering how badly I just got burned out by Frontier the sequel needs new animals.

I like PZ building, but I’m here for the animals. I don’t care if the new building features are amazing, I need good animals. I am not excited about the idea that for a future PZ2 I may wait a very long time for some of the animals I want, if I get them. I’m not excited thinking about how Frontier might just make DLCs in the same style as PZ1. Overly mammal heavy, and everything else fights for the last 2 spots if they are lucky. That’s not assuming birds come in some sort of aviary exhibit system (WTE has failed me in that regard), would that mean I might not get good habitat birds? Or does that mean I have to wait forever for exhibits to have fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates?

I’m feeling pessimistic, but if Frontier wants more of my money for a sequel it needs to be better from the start. Now with mods getting better and better, the sequel needs amazing animals for me to jump ship.

Angeł’s PZ2 Base Game roster (+ Deluxe)

DISCLAIMER: I know a lot of headliners a missing. That’s the point. A lot of DLCs can be made and sold by keeping back some of the more important / interesting animals. So I tried to imagine which would be held back next time around. Polar Bears, Orangutans, Chimps, Ring Tail Lemurs, Komodo Dragons, Sea Lions, Pygmy Hippos and MANY more that are missing could help create some DLCs that don’t feel like rip offs from the first game.)

I wrote this in @Captain Callum thread and it made me realize how much I miss this from zoo tycoon 2 and I hope we get in pz2 what do you guys think about this idea?:

Better more active and alive challenges in franchise mode

Make challenges similar to zoo tycoon 2 where they’re more active and have a slight story to them. For example: in zoo tycoon 2 randomly an earthquake would hit your zoo and you’d have to redo all your barriers and repair your zoo, your employees would go on strike and you’d have to resolve with less employees for a little while and help out yourself until they came back, celebrities would visit your zoo and you had to make sure they were happy and you got pictures for marketing, you were approached by magazines for marketing photos and you get them for added boost to your zoos fame, another zoo contacts you about trading animals for a while so you have to rush and create a new habitat for a species and you lose one of your animals for a little bit, there’s a animal rescued and you have to house it and care for it for an allotted time and maybe you keep it, there’s a famous dolphin that you have to make sure is happy when you get her for an added boost of attendance and fame if you don’t you lose her and it’s negative for your zoo. All these active challenges could just spring up and you choose to accept or decline most of them (the earthquake one you couldn’t decline) these were added alongside more passive challenges like donation goals, building a tour ride, etc. these make your zoo feel more alive and keep franchise distinct from sandbox, I miss this aspect from zoo tycoon 2 more than any other feature so please planet zoo 2 bring it back.

Reading some of these list choices kinda pains me lol

There are so many DLC species I can live without for a while, but if I have to wait years to get my most essential animal (the fruit bird) again I will explode into a billion little pieces.

I don’t even want to imagine how long it would take me to get a duck, or even if I can get a white faced whistling duck.

Honestly makes me less excited for a sequel. That’s on top of will Frontier ditch the current dlc roster system? Do I have to wait 3-4 months to maybe get 1 bird each time? If we get aviaries will the aviary bird just replace exhibit animals? In that case do I have to wait for habitat birds and basic exhibit animals?

Not fun to think about.

Honestly, that's what gets me the most with Planet Coaster. Soooo little themes. I know it wasn't much better in Planet Zoo at first, but oh boy, it's gonna be tough.

What is a fruit bird? When I google it, I just find 10000 fruit eating bird but no fruit bird species...
As others have mentioned, yeah I’m referring to the kiwi lol. My favorite little freak, a solid addition to my NA zoos, and Aotearoa’s most essential species <3

I’d trade almost the entirety of Arid and Eurasia just to have these boogers back in a sequel’s base game ngl

Oh, it was a pun... okay.

Well, I got it on my base game list, if I remember correctly.
Would be interesting to see some stats on how often which animal in game was build so far. From there we could make an educated guess on what they save for later.

To be fair, this might be the most brilliant starting roster. I would SLAM my money down for this.
I know that a few of the bigger names from the base game will likely be kept back for later DLC but I could dream about this roster!

I'm pro better OrangUtan fur (and will download a replacement mod for PZ 1 soon), but don't you touch my faboulous North American roster.
I infamously do not care about North American animals in the game. 😅

I think the only ones I use semi-regularly are the prairie dog (small filler species) and the American bison. I love sea lions but the off-scaling of the male is extremely off-putting to me so I stick to the grey seal. Oh, and the skunk, I use that a fair bit. The rest might as well not exist.

That said, it was just a joke, but in all seriousness I would be absolutely gutted if we get the sequel and it still has the same orangutan and the same lion just with slightly better fur textures. I'm fine with repurchasing a big chunk of the roster if it means the older animals are getting makeovers.

Has this been discussed yet - should we set up a metawishlist for PZ2 features we'd like to see?

It seems timing is key with these wishlists because it looks like Frontier used the very first metawishlist to influence the animals they picked, but possibly not later versions. If they're starting work on the game now it might be a good time to combine and order all our hopes and dreams for new features, with the hope that it might have an impact on how they design the game and what they prioritise early on?

What do you all think?
I shouldn't say this myself but I think it's pretty obvious that the meta-wishlist has indeed heavily influenced animal picks in the DLCs.

If there was one thing I hated about the state of the forum on the months before PZ released and the year after is that literally every user would post their random animal wishlist in random threads, making them completely sterile. So yes, a meta-wishlist for PZ2 is something very needed if you ask me.

Am I the right person to host it and keep it updated? Hell no, sorry. As one gets older, life and work commitments take over more and more time (blame academia I guess).
In fact, I think it shouldn't be a personal project but more so a collaborative one, as it's a very demanding task. Especially because I reckon an initial meta-wishlist would ask for 150 base-game animals? Somewhere around that amount.
Perhaps some sort of polling system would be an option, but I don't think any poll would allow that level of flexibility. Cause how many animals would you include? It would be sensible to include flying birds and aquatic animals for this one, I guess, so: 1000? That would probably not be enough and wouldn't be convenient either.
