Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

Okay but am I the only one quasi-dreading this seemingly inevitable sequel?
Like scaling tool and better pathing sure, but I am NOT enjoying the idea of paying $59.99 to finally have aviaries, start from scratch, and THEN having to wait circa 2029 to finally have a proper roster, with what I assume will be a slow, grueling rollout for the previous animals.
dont forget paying for the dlcs too, you are for sure not the only one

ANIMALS I NEED AT THE START OF PLANET ZOO 2 (OR IN THE FIRST YEAR OF EXPANSIONS:

Aardvark / African Crested Porcupine / African Elephant / Alpine Ibex / American Bison / American Flamingo / Arctic Fox / Babirusa / Bactrian Camel / Bighorn Sheep / Blackbuck / Blue Wildebeast / Bongo / Orangutan / California Sea Lion / Capybara / Caracal / Cheetah / Pangolin / Clouded Leopard / Capuchin Monkey / Ostrich / Warthog / Wombat / Sifaka / Cougar / Fallow Deer / Fennec / Fossa / Gemsbok / Gharial / Giant Anteater / Giant Galapagos Tortoise / Giant Otter / Giant Panda / Hippopotamus / Honey Badger / Peafowl / Indian Rhinoceros / Jaguar / Dik-Dik / Koala / Komodo Dragon / Little Penguin / Malayan Tapir / Mandrill / Maned Wolf / Markhor / Meerkat / Moose / Nile Monitor / Armadillo / Beaver / Kiwi / Okapi / Polar Bear / Platypus / Zebra / Palla’s Cat / Proboscis Monkey / Pronghorn / Przewalski’s Horse / Pygmy Hippo / Pere David’s Deer / Red Panda / Red Kangaroo / Red River hog / Giraffe / Ring-Tailed Lemur / Sable Antelope / Saiga / Saltwater Crocodile / Siberian Tiger / Snow Leopard / Cassowary / White Rhinoceros / Spectacled Bear / Spectacled Caiman / Striped Hyena / Sun Bear / Takin / Tasmanian Devil / Gorilla /

PS: I still want the above animals, just not in a hurry to get them, not my favorite animals, but I of course know they are needed for zoo's, but I think Lion's are overrated and overused, never been a fan of wolves, and I really hate Chimps, worst animals next to humans, so not a fan, I know they are zoo-favorites so i included them in the wait-for list...

ANIMALS I WOULDN”T MIND BEING CUT AND NEVER RETURN: African Leopard / Aldabra Giant Tortoise / Alpaca / Alpine Goat / American Standard Donkey / Arctic Wolf / Bengal Tiger / Black Wildebeast / Black-and-White Ruffed Lemur / Bonobo / Bornean Elephant / Dwarf Caiman / Dhole / Grey Seal / Highland Cattle / Hill Radnor Sheep / Himalayan Brown Bear / Tanuki / Nyala / Red Ruffed Lemur / Sand Cat / Scimitar-Horned Oryx / Siamang / Sloth Bear / Sussex Chicken / Tamworth Pig / Wisent /

REPLACE IT WITH ANOTHER: King Penguin (Emperor Penguin) / Nile Lechwe (Waterbuck) / Mute Swan (Black Swan) / Somali Wild Ass (Onager) / Wallaby (Rock Wallaby) / White-Faced Saki (Howler Monkey) / Asian Water Monitor (Perentie) / Dama Gazelle (Gerenuk) / Addax (Great Kudu) / Raccoon (Coati) / Red Fox (Grey Fox) / Formosan Black Bear (American Black Bear) / Red Deer (Elk) / Dall Sheep (Mountain Goat)

I HOPE IT ADDS THE FOLLOWING MISSING ANIMALS: Secretary Bird / Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo / Walrus / Black-Howler Monkey / Musk Ox / Grey Crowned Crane / Shoebill / Echidna / Pelican / Aye-Aye / Generuk / Gaur / Marabau Stork / Scarlet Ibis / Ground Hornbill / Golden Pheasant / Leopard Seal / Mandarin Duck / Muntjac / Puffin / Western Capercaillie / Greater Roadrunner / Victoria Crowned Pigeon / Indian Giant Squirrel / Coati / Serval / Mara / Tamandua / Gelada / Greater Kudu / Alligator Snapping Turtle / Helmeted Guineafowl / Giant Eland / Roserate Spoonbill / Fishing Cat / Yellow Throated Marten / Wild Yak / Giant Armadillo / Rock Wallaby / Wild Turkey / Elephant Seal / Kakapo / Perentie / Black Swan / Gray Fox / Aoudad / Brown Hyena / Superb Lyrebird / Waterbuck /
If that’s what PZ2 ends up being, I’d just laugh and never look at it again. No offense to your choices (you probably wouldn’t agree with mine either) but if it’s anything even remotely like that, I wouldn’t even bother checking the updates

I’d take it you only care about cat clones and farm animals then...

Nice, probably would not touch your version with a stick either, lol full of 100% clones, don’t need 10 tigers

So you would not have bought the first game if the following animals were not in it: Aldabra giant tortoise, bonobo, bengal tiger, red ruffed lemur, H brown bear, nyala, black wildebeast, formosan black bear.
As those are the only animals I didn’t include from the main first game, strange animals to ignore an entire game for

...I woudn't mind another return to domestics, you know guinea pig, muscovy duck, mallard and domestic rabbit would be banger additions.

Just saying.
Yeah.. but that's not what we would get we know that.

There are some domestics i would be ok with having a place in the roster:

  • Highland cow (remastered version)
  • Zebu
  • Ankole wattusi
  • Longhorn cattle
  • Domestic yak
  • Shetlands ponny
  • Icelandic horse
  • Clydesdale horse
  • Mustang or Arabian horse
  • Flemish giant rabbit
  • Lop-eared rabbit
  • Chinchilla
  • Guinea pig
  • African pygmy goat
  • Chinese grey goose
  • African goose
  • Muscovy duck
  • Mallard duck
  • Indian runner duck
  • Helmeted guineafowl
  • Domestic turkey

But not all at once in one pack nor do i need all of those

I would very much consider not buying PZ2 if the base roster didn’t have clones.
Because if it doesn’t, I know they’ll plan on selling them as DLC. Which I really can’t be bothered to go through all over again.
Sure SOME clones in DLC is fine. But I think the base roster SHOULD be padded with a tonne of clones.

Grizzly and Eurasian Brown Bear
Amur and Bengal and/or Sumatran Tiger
Amur and African and/or Persian Leopard
African and Asiatic Lion
Eurasian and Northwestern Wolf
European and American Bison
American and Greater Flamingo

Just a few examples that I think should be in base game. All are really valuable animals and add something different from their counterparts, but to some members on here would be seen as ‘clones’. Therefore, I think to please everyone, they should be in the base game. So no one moans that they're ‘clogging up’ DLC, but that they make it into the game anyway.

Same goes for domestics. They absolutely should be in the game, but considering their last reception, I’m scared for them.

Maybe a Deluxe DLC (a la Planet Coaster 2’s Vintage Funfair Pack) at the same time as Base Game release would be the best way to include them. Nobody’s waiting a long time for them, but they don’t take up slots in the base game, and those that don’t want them don’t have to pay.

being in PZ2's base game (or being added later for free) would remove a lot of controversy from those animals. It'd also let players make petting zoos without having to re-pay for DLC
Yes,but please make better choices then, like potbelly pig, mallard duck, giant rabbit, shedland pony and other such animals, not the silly goat, sheep, pig and donkey they have picked...

Lol, i'm sure like Jurassic World Evolution 3, the roster of Planet Zoo 2 will only have around 80 animals, if the clones YOU want take up spots from that roster, I will not even buy the game. You rather have some 100% clone copies instead of different looking, behaving animals. I will never understand this wish behavior, never.

So here’s what apart of me thinks
Aviary’s or bust.
Big aviaries, think placeable like JWE2 but not needed to be as big.
Small aviaries, think the small ones from prehistoric kingdom.
a large variety of birds for both
A bunch of new ground and wadding birds that won’t warrant an aviary.

Petting zoos maybe reworked to be a little bit more under control and may be kept for a dlc

Exhbit overhaul
This time, allow small mammals that are too small to warrent habitats.
Have the critters move around and climb around.
Separate small, medium and large exhibits for critters of appropriate size.

The ambient noise system now helps calm animals or silence guest noise.

Underwater viewing windows. No more making ground over a window just to make it visible.

Education overhaul.
Transform the education talks and seating into stages. Even allow the educators to have a stand inside the habitat or just not on a guest path. Raptors and education birds can be on the educators arms. Guided tours don’t suck the life out of educators and they can schedule what time of the year tours arrive. Also educators have a room where they can do online media presence to help with marketing.

Golf carts for employees to move around quicker.
Security guards can now staff a guard in a security room kinda like how vets use the research room.

So it seems there’s a good amount of content that would be good for launch but also for dlc

Aviaries, new exhibits at launch
Updates will get us
Petting zoo +
Employee boosts
Gift shops

pushing the game constraints to their max

1. chinese giant salamander
2. coconut crab
3. green sea turtle
4. rhinoceros iguana
5. alligator snapping turtle
6. perentie
7. giant south american turtle
I would pay double the regular price for this pack. I haven’t bought any of the recent DLCs but this would be something more up my alley. Especially if they all are habitat species (death to the exhibit box)

People who are into using mods are always talking about useful new rigs, but you know what’d have the most re-use potential? The coconut crab. It’d likely be PZ’s only official habitat invertebrate due to size and the rig could be used for most arthropods. A group of animals that includes all insects, crustaceans, and arachnids.

I know not everyone cares about making custom spaces for species from this category, but Id love having some habitat species options to allow for true freedom in space design.

Have similar feelings for almost every other species you included here as well (minus the perentie). Animals from categories completely ignored in PZ thus far and yet one of their rigs could open the door for hundreds of others.

A beautiful summary of exactly why I chose these animals (death to the exhibit box).

Arthropods are ridiculously diverse. I know there is meme about everything going crab, but hermit crabs are simply weird. This group is adapted to stick their abdomen into shell and to do so back limbs are often completely reduced, while front pair commonly known as pincers is used to walk. From rig perspective cocount crab is beyond useless. All one can do from this is more hermit crabs lol.

No offense, but that’s not true of the Coconut Crab. Though they are a relative of the hermit crab, they don’t use shells for protection like them. They have 10 “legs” and only the rear-most pair isn’t used for walking/movement. Instead they are used for mating purposes. So that means Coconut Crabs make use of their 8 other limbs anytime they’re moving. A quick google search will show/tell you this.

Meaning that a Coconut Crab rig would have more than enough limbs to make most arthropods function in-game. Modders have also figured out how to “remove” parts from official rigs so there’s how you could use the rig for species with less limbs.

Again, I understand that arthropods might not be a priority for everyone, but there’s no need to downplay/misconstrue their abilities.

This big guy is missing one of its “pincher” claws but as you can see it’s using 4 of its 5 limb sets for movement.

Expect for juveniles, which just like other hermit crabs stick their abdomen into the shell.

They only use shells for protection when they are under one inch in size, an incredibly short and early part of their development. And just like every other species in PZ, Frontier likely would not decide to represent juvenile versions of their species at their earliest stages of development in-game.

Here’s a wild juvenile Coconut Crab, with no shell in sight (also munching on some raisins):

For example, we don’t see baby koalas, anteaters, or monkeys clinging to their mothers for protection like they would in their early stages of development. And we don’t have jelly bean-sized baby pandas or kangaroo joeys that use their mothers’ pouches. Instead Frontier gave us juveniles that are further along in their development. The same would be expected of pretty much any future animal addition in PZ.

Again I’ll reiterate, it’s fine if you personally don’t want a habitat Coconut Crab, but there’s no true reason why it couldn’t functionally work just as well as any other habitat species we’ve already gotten in the game. And yes, their rig would be useful for modding. They’re a 10 limbed arthropod, there’s no habitat species like that currently in-game.

On the more technical side, there are a few small, but highly impactful, changes I'd like to see related to groups. These changes wouldn't do much for more casual players, but for people like myself would save a ton of time and headaches in the long run:
- It would be absolutely amazing to be able to select an item within a group and align the group axis to that item
- The ability to copy multiple groups in one go, rather than having to either fiddle around with multiple copies or just group up two things that you'd rather keep separate
- A mirror button to allow us to flip the items in the group

Yes, I absolutely dislike some of your choices, but you're missing the point even if I removed those and replaced them with my favourites, I would still have exactly the same reaction. Just in the list of animals to "wait for", you included 44 which means, with 7 animals per pack, we would get resells during 6 packs (plus 2 more animals in another)

Well, I did buy PZ1 much later, since when it came out it didn’t seem worth it to me I think I bought it around the time of Wetlands. But the difference with buying PZ1 without X species is that it was the first game I was investing in. At this point, I’ve already bought all the DLCs and now I’m supposed to believe that a new game, with just a few updates, is worth 60 euros, when it comes with only 40% of the species, and that I have to wait years for them and buy them all over again in resells? That’s laughable.

I gotta say even though we’re like a year away from a potential PZ2 announcement, I am quite excited. I’ve wanted birds and especially fully aquatic species for the absolute longest. It would be amazing to finally have them alongside all the other QOL improvements and (hopefully) better gameplay and progression loop for franchise. (ZT2 style Challenges/ Events, Star progression system). The potential improvements to animal behaviors also have me so excited as well. I just hope we eventually get the full PZ1 roster back hopefully in the form of free updates.
