Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack arriving 18 Oct 🦇

My thoughts about the animals:

Egyptian Fruit Bat - really excited about this one, its something completely new and I just love bats.
Red Fox - I like them, its basically the last fox that was a must for me and also one of the European must-have representatives that I was missing. great to see they will have lots of coat variants!
Common Wombat - was also on my wishlist of Oceanian animals, although not particularly high, I am excited about them! (Still think we need Emu, Wallabies, Kiwi and Tasmanian Devils).
Striped Skunk - very surprising pick, I saw them in a zoo recently, very playful and interesting looking. Solid pick.
Raccoon - Not that I wanted them, but they are cute and cant blame anyone for wanting them, their model and animations looks amazing.

Like I said before, I prefer animal packs, simply becuase more animals the better. Scenery is a bit too much themed for my liking, but I am sure some of the pieces will be very useful - those hollow tress and cave rocks? Love. I am also excited about all the new plants I spotted. We can never have enough of foliage.

Incredible, I guessed the theme I had already thought long time ago 🎃 🧙‍♀️🪦🐈‍⬛🦉

Obviously these are preliminary comments without having the DLC in my hand and I will write the negatives first and then the positives.

NEGATIVES:
After 4 months of abstinence I was expecting at least an animal-only DLC, so the classic 7+1, and instead we end up with only 4+1. Obviously I have never accepted the policy of these DLCs with such a small number of animals, and all the more reason this pack could be exploited much, much better, I don't mean that you had to make all the animals I had thought of, but the theme here was so vast that you could choose more and better. For example, the red fox, an animal I like, but always a clone of others already present in the game, has been exploited as already happened in the past to fill a slot with 5 miserable (numerically) animals. I would have liked it to be added later, not sure now that we have other foxes in the game, not sure in this DLC.

I would have exploited this theme exclusively for animals, for flora, for some habitat objects (for example the enrichment of the pumpkin with food inside that the animals must find), for some interactive statues for the guests. Instead, there will be "new" construction objects similar or otherwise quite useless (such as bright mushrooms, pieces of construction wood), unless it is a theme park, but since this is a game that must simulate one zoo, I don't think there are zoos in the world built with areas based on a spooky theme.

POSITIVES:
Finally as I had expected, ladies and gentlemen we have the animations for the flight, ALLELUIA!!! 🙌 👏 🥳

An absolutely necessary dynamic, there couldn't be a zoo game without animals flying! Now there is the Egyptian fruit bats, I had foreseen the flying fox, that's okay, as long as you gave me a flying being. This opens up new perspectives, it will totally change the game, if the developers want it ... Seeing parrots, birds of prey and colorful birds will be beautiful and fun.

Connected to the first factor, there is the possibility of having larger exhibits, which can be used by guests. They are not modular as desired as I would have liked, but it is already an extraordinary achievement. I am not sure if we will have the option of using it with other animals, but only the fact that it is there too can change the dynamics of the game for the better, opens up new and very interesting perspectives.

The presence of the raccoon (I would not have included it in this pack but in a DLC dedicated to the animal neighborhood) could be the pass to the future presence (it absolutely must be there) of one of my favorite and very common animals in zoos, the coati.

Please actually read the steam page/ forum post: The new scenery items are only „Halloween“ by a small ratio, the biggest part will be Romanian/ European Castle/ Cottage Core.

Well I can safely say for the first time that I won't be buying the new dlc lol

Happy for those who somehow still wanted more foxes in the game and got the red fox though.

Well this is definitely a twist, a scenery pack for fall! And additionally, it’s a theme pretty much no one was guessing. Everyone was pushing so hard for a nocturnal pack when, a Halloween-linked theme (Didn’t Planet Coaster receive a “Spooky” Halloween themed DLC too?), was always right there. The new plants and the building pieces look to be really useful, so I am actually excited this is a scenery pack (though admittedly quite surprised)! I will say though that some of the decorative pieces don’t seem to be very multi-use, not sure how much I’m gonna be using a Wombat gargoyle. On the other hand, the stalagmites and other cave pieces will be incredibly useful (not only in caves but also any rock work) so thank you Frontier for those!

Now time to discuss the animals. Let’s start with the real shock of the line-up, the bat. On the one hand, I’m over-joyed that we finally have a true flying species in PZ. But on the other hand, it’s strictly an exhibit species with limited animations/interactions and is still “locked in” a cube like all the other exhibits. I love that in the accompanying update to this DLC, exhibits did receive some more love, but the real issues most players have with them still wasn’t addressed. The animals are all stuck on animation-repeat in a one-size cube that lacks true customization like habitats.

All this said, I now really worry about what’s to come for potential flying birds in PZ. We’ve waited almost three years for flying bird species in PZ, for them to potentially only be exhibit species? Maybe you’ve got other plans up your sleeve Frontier devs, but if not I’m begging you not to put flying birds in exhibit boxes. They need to be habitat species, with full behaviors, needs, and animations, just like all the other current habitat species. If December is an animal pack, and it’s a grouping of flying species, I truly hope they aren’t limited to exhibit boxes. If so, it will likely be the first DLC I’m not purchasing. I don’t care how interesting the species selections are, at the end of the day, exhibit species and their boxes offer very little customization and creativity in a game that advertises building and customizing things as key elements.

As for the other species in the pack, I’m quite surprised these species were selected as a “strong” line-up for a 4 animal-limited scenery pack. It’s not that the animals are all bad picks, just not what I would have expected as likely to be brought together and sold in a pack with such a limited roster. The Raccoon, Skunk, and Wombat will likely all have some unique animations and interactions and are quite different both taxonomically and anatomically from anything already in PZ, so I think they will all bring something fun and different to the game. Can’t say I’m overjoyed with the Red Fox’s inclusion though. We already have a number of other canids, two of which are foxes. I doubt the Red Fox will behave any differently in PZ than the already in-game Arctic Fox does.

It’s quite obvious the devs have put a lot of love and effort into PZ, and I don’t mean to minimize their work at all with any of the above things I said. This pack does have some potentially really fun animal and scenery piece inclusions that I think are really useful. But it does also have some questionable elements that I hope don’t stand-in as a sign of what’s to come for PZ’s future. Flying birds have been one of mine and many other PZ players biggest “Wants” for the game since it’s release. Frontier, please don’t make us wait three years for them to only receive them as exhibit box animals.
I think the fact they've added in a singular flying animal in this pack actually makes flying birds more likely, not less. Of course, it could be flying loops or static, we'll have to see, but I'm thinking they've got the plan in place, and are opting to see how the release of one "flying" animal goes in game play, and any problems that may arise. I'm fact, I'm pretty certain fly birds will be a December pack and an animal pack. They may not end up being full on habitats, but I do think we'll get them some way.

I usually hate new canines but with this one having so many colour morphs and unique sounds, I‘m actually really excited for it.
