Ships Python Owners' Thread

Does anyone know if in the engineers update you can upgrade thrusters, shields, etc? Or if not, if you can modify the ship? I really want to trade some internal slots in my Python for some utility mounts and make my Python more maneuverable.

My impressions of the Engineers modifications would involve enhancing the performance of existing equipment like thrusters, FSD etc so you might be able to get say 20% more performance out of a 6A thruster but with a significant increase in power, the thing is a low mass Python with 6A thrusters is below the magic 0.5 ratio anyway so a 6A turbo thruster won't improve agility all that much and the max speed may have a hard limit on it.

I guess with an FSD additional range will demand more power and increased fuel consumption (perhaps significantly increased) I reckon "Engineered" upgrades will have balancing costs like the Powers weapons and equipment.

I'm currently sitting on about 58M, I know I'll potentially need another 10-15 before I consider the Python.

What do you recommend as a start out basic build that is OK for PvE missions and I can build upon?

Only thing I'm sure of is I want the 5M or so for the 5A FSD...

I think something like this was my initial Python build. Adequate for PVE. Upgrade the distributor as soon as possible, then other stuff. Initial cost 72M though you can save on that by buying in discounted space.

I'm running a miner/hauler build currently so the additional modules and higher power requirements push the price up but I ran this armed trader build for a long while it was fine for navpoint BH and some RES work.

With no cargo it's agile enough to replace the turrets with gimballed pulse but fully loaded it'll struggle to turn with smaller ships so if you're going to trade fit the turrets, I've tried a medium m-cannon in the lower class 3 hardpoint and that works rather well so the class 3 m-cannon should be a beast!

I know the 7A PD is a load of cash but it's essential for the weapon array, shields and thruster boost so cut costs at your peril ;)

Thanks :) but I was thinking something a lot more basic, literally D rated stuff...

How would this fare to start with?

I manage with less shields on my FGS, the Interdictor is for those assassination missions.
I'm not sure the agility would be that great (hence the turreted Pulse)

66M (with insurance) in Li space.

Probably ok but my guess is that the D distributor wouldn't power the lasers for very long. If you can live with that, then go for it. TBH a few max capacity slave trade runs quickly pays for future upgrades.

Oh man oh man...I cannot go back to my 2.0 python now. Will have to wait till 2.1 hits live. I loved the Python before, but now with dirty drives and all sorts of crazy upgrades. it's just so much more awesome! Besides the speed, I was getting 20ly range with my multi purpose load, including some bulk heads, cells and heavy duty mil spec armor ( ~17,5ly 128tons cargo I think).

I haven't tried a Python too busy in my Viper at 550 m/s boost with the upgraded class 3 thruster, one thing to remember is the quantity of materials and data required for a serious Python upgrade will take some time to collect, sounds like my kind of fun :)

Quick question:

I got a Python. Bare minimum module-wise. I was thinking about first buying Class C modules so that it can actually do stuff and then gradually refitting it like this: https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...Iw18eQ==.MwBhEYy6egWATGIA?bn=Python Multirole
Is that a reasonable build?

What are you planning to use it for? The SCBs look a bit out of place if it's a local exploration/missions type build.
If you switch the 7C plant for a 6A then you get slightly more power (enough to not have to power down the FSD) and increased range.

This is variation of my current pre 2.1 build (in light of the new NPC's I may have to revise it though! ;)), it's capable of some light BH, cargo missions/trading, casual mining (needs more collectors) and some exploring as you go.

Most of the materials and data for Engineers is easy enough to collect through mining and salvage and the improvements can be substantial, with drone collectors this build should make collection a bit less painless.

For now I only want to use it for PvE bounty hunting (hence the SCBs), local exploration (the odd trip around the block, no major expeditions) and have some cargo for trading missions if they come up. Just get a feel for it, see what it's like and what I like. Later on I hope that it might become a true multirole vessel which I can take anywhere and do most stuff with, no matter what it might be (except PvP). Didn't think about mining, but why not. Don't have Horizons yet, but I guess I'll get it later on anyway.

I expect you'll find that build to be fine for now. You'll want to tweak the distributor and thrusters as you go forwards. I've not really taken my Python into heavy combat, as I prefer the FAS for that (which also happens to have a much lower rebuy) so I can't say about the SCBs being required or not. The 6A generally holds pretty well against single NPCs. I'd probably be tempted to swap them out for hull reinforcement but that's a personal preference.

Thanks! I'll try to make some fast cash and see what I can afford and how to tweak it a bit more. I hope I'll come to like the Python as much as I did with my old Asp.
