Ships Python Owners' Thread

So then, a larger flying wing -style hull with good armor, capability for fighters & 3 metric pantloads of cargo? Maybe a little drifty...? :D

Idk, for some reason it's just not growing on me. I'll likely keep it for later, possibly for CGs if I'm ever able to participate in those somewhere down the road. At the moment I keep finding myself more interested in other ships...

And that is why there are other ships to choose from. Not everyone likes the same ships. Find one that fits your play style and go have fun. :)

Yeah I am liking it for it's sheer versatility but it's not pushing my buttons the way the dropship does. I think I'll really like the FAS so might have to grind the rank for one to try out.

In the meantime I'm keep the python as my BGS/mission ship for now. It's just TOO good not to use.

Prior to my being able to afford a properly fitted Python, I was flying around doing missions/cargo in a FAS. Loved that ship. I had three beams under the nose and a PA up top for medium to large interdictors/pirates. And it could carry a decent amount of mission related cargo to boot! :)

Quite the nimble little tank...

PS4 player here and new owner of a mostly B some C rated Python
Loving it so far and building up to fully A rated and need to get some rep with the engineers

Tried all pulse and MC and pulse

Any weapon loadout suggestions for combat?

Until you engineer it up, be very careful. Dirty drives a must. If you're still just at the beginning of the road with those pesky engineers, become best buddies with Farseer in Deciat. She's a big help.

Well, i upgraded my FDS to my python and i love it. The FDS felt too big and cumbersome. Also even when i A rated everything the shield and hull felt too weak for any type of combat. I remember on a planet assault mission (dont remember if it was a generator or surface scan mission) a skimmer depleted my shields before i could even get the ship powered up and off the ground. Just never felt comfortable in combat with the FDS. The python is a lil more nimble, and more slot for cargo, passengers, and the srv.

My combat engineered A-rated Phyton goes like this:

3G Beam lasers (long range, 6km range with 6km falloff.. lol - before they even come close, they are dead)
3G Beam lasers (long range, 6km range with 6km falloff.. )
2T Multi-Cannon turret (30% more DPS) / 3G Beam lasers (long range, 6km range with 6km falloff.. )
2T Multi-Cannon turret (30% more DPS)
2T Multi-Cannon turret (30% more DPS)

Once they arrive in range for multi, they find themselves without shields already. :D
If I need to hit hard and quick, I go with 3 beam. Otherwise 2 beam and 3 multi turrets.

7A enngine clean for optimized heat management
7A power distributor with charge optimization (plus 30% or so)

With 3 shield boosters (lvl 5 engineered) & death warrent scanner or 4 shield boosters if in combat zone. Shield is only lvl 3 engineered, still missing the Chinese.

Shields: 760 (870 with 4th booster) and resistance:
KIN 45%
THERM 35% (47% with 4th booster)
EXPL 50%

Supported by a class 6 shield cell bank with 5 charges and engineered for less heat usage.

Armor: 2.370 and resistance (roughly):
KIN 20%
THERM 30%
EPL 20%

Range in combat fit is around 19LY with engine lvl 3 engineered.

This ship really performs. If you complain about combat usage, give it a try. But you need engineers.

I have bought and sold most of my various ships but I just can't bring myself to let my Python go. It does everything well..

Well last night I decide to strip and shop in the FDL and the Dolphin last night for the Python, and what a ship it is! Shes my first multi role ship and my does she do everything you could ever need!

Current starter spec is D rated on the core apart from A rated FSD and runs a 5A shield gen with a single A rated booster and rest of the utility slots have a pint defense, kws and chaff.
Shes armed with two m/beams and three L/mc's, all gimbals.

I have found it is very enjoyable and smooth ship to fly, even the cockpit being off centre isn't annoying me like it did in the FDL.

Had a few close encounters of the 'oh balls I am nearly dead kind' during hi res bounty hunting but she performs very well providing I don't get cocky with my targets and the weapon convergence is awesome to boot.
When I have her fitted out for commodity trading she's pulling 250t and is much more enjoyable than my hateful T-7 was for trading, I have yet to properly configure her for passenger missions but again seems to do well with that using the left over cabins from the Dolphin.

I am looking forward to properly getting to know the characteristics of this fine ship :D

Also has anyone any experience running cannons on a Python?
As above I am running 2 medium beams with 3 large mc's (the beams tend to be me main weapons of choice) I am tempted to swap the multi's for cannons and see if they are effective for long range sniping once i have a ships shields down.

I tried a cannon under the nose once, but I'm such a lousy aim it was pretty useless for me. Currently I run 3 large beams and two medium PAs, all on gimbals. These allow me to keep the guns on the target longer, and if I want to try shooting a ship at longer range, or they drop chaff, I just unlock and use them like fixed. Weapon convergence on the Python is one of the best in the game.

Enjoy your Python. IMO she's one of the best all-around ships available. :)

Yeah those gimballed PAs are awesome, just like convergence on the Python :p
