Ships Python Owners' Thread

So I've been trying to find/build a fun weps loadout with the normal weps (no PP stuff) and ships I have available. I'm not a fan of small ships, even though they are fun to fly because it's too much effort to take out the stronger medium and larger ships. I find nothing fun about spending 20 minutes taking out a conda with a viper. too much like work. ;)

My preferred weps are beams with either frags or MCs. PAs are fun, but I'm not that good with them and my TTK (time to kill) goes through the roof with them. Beams are power hungry suckers, and my FDL just can't keep them lit long enough for me. Call me crazy, but I keep throwing the FDL into the back of the garage and bringing out the Python when I just want to have a little fun and not worry about the credit score. She just kills faster, for me, and I've proven it time and time again. The only ship that I own that kills faster than my Python is my 'vette, but doesn't surprise me. He's supposed to do that. :)

I normally run three G5 efficient beams on the large and either the MCs or frags on the mediums (currently G5 double shot frags). Last night I was just playing around in a haz res in the FDL (again) and was just not happy with it. It's C6 PD is just not large enough to keep those beams lit for as long as I want. So...

I got the idea last night to replace the under slung beam on my Python with a G5 double shot frag. Coriolis tells me that I can pull the trigger on my large beams now for about a minute and a half or until they melt, whichever comes first. Which makes blowing up those little fast-movers SO much fun. And once the beams strip their shields, the C3 frag added to the C2 frags are just flat out crippling when I get in close on larger/slower ships.

This should be much more fun than the FDL. Going to spend some time with this config today and if it turns out like I think it will, I'll get rid of the FDL. Never liked that stupid view out the window anyway... ;)

Hi guys, I've just A rated my python. If I don't have any interest on engineering atm, what would be a good shield generator? Are SCBs a must have? I actually prefer to have all 4 Shield Boosters instead of having to carry heat sinks around. I'm thinking of either a 6A shield (no SCBs) or a 6C Bi-weave shield, which would be better? Thanks

Without engineering on the shields (high resistances to incoming fire) I'd probably go with a 6A shield and 4 boosters and decent armour + MRPs and HRPs, unless you're firing off SCB's continually the heat isn't going to cause major damage I'd suggest try it and see, weapons really down to what you like the build below is similar to my engineered multi-role Python a decent balance of firepower, shields and cargo capacity.

To whoever made the Python's ingame model: I love its front section so much. Especially this view from the side, the way the shape lines up, looking both sleek, fast, agile and yet at the same time, strong, heavy, bulky. And then all of this is enhanced even further by the front landing gear, which looks fittingly massive yet elegantly designed, and its location allows enough of the ship to loop and tower strong above the ground below.

Today I've bought my very first Python! And the first thing that struck me was: The seat is to the left of the cockpit's center! I must say, none of the ships I piloted so far is like that, so it feels kinda weird. Should I keep that fact in mind, or does it not really matter when piloting?

It doesn't really matter. Seriously. I thought it weird at first too. :)

It may help to activate the mouse point (little dot in center of your HUD) and just fly by that and ignore the canopy surrounds. You will quickly adjust. FYI, if you think the Python's seating arrangement is weird, don't fly a FDL. :D

On the cockpit crossbeam in the front of the FDL there is a thicker flange like part, a bit like where two pipes join together. If you keep your target a quarter inch or so above that flange it will be centred.

I just sold every god damn ship i owned (Cobra, Chieftain, Vulture (only one compl. A-rated), ASPX, Eage, I-Eagle, Fed Ship), and most of the innards too, to buy a legendary PHYTON!!! Everything D-rated (anly exeption is a A-rated FSD) for now tho. Regrets? Give me a break! I love it! :)

Im pretty new, PS4 here. :)

I totally agree. This ship is IMO the most detailed ship in the game. Everything about it screams Hollywood quality. However I just wish it had a little bit better view out the front windows. Like get rid of that big cross section that's smack dab in front of your face, ugh.

I did similar way back when. I think I eventually bought a different AspX, for some exploring, but then sold it again after the 5k to unlock Palin almost drove me insane. The Python is easily my favourite ship.

It is easily my favourite ship as well, and my most expensive. But there are quite many ships yet to explore. Im planing an going the imperial star destroyer (corvette) route. But i will allways own a phyton. It is the most versatile medium ship as far as I know (I watched a LOT of YT-Vids). And it looks dangerous. Quite the contrast to all the other bricks. I like the default colours as well. Gives it a military look. In ED the are quite a lot of crappy defaults imho.. ;) I use it like a armed to the teeth trader for now, until i can afford the a-rated stuff. Powerplant etc. is ridiculous expensive. Yesterday i got stuck in an mailslot for the first time. Boom. 4mill rebuy. Did.hurt.hard. ;)

Standard or bi-weaves?

Greetings from austria commanders! Have a nice day!

I was planning to get a Conda for exploration purposes; then i said "what the H!" and jumped into my Python and head out... The ship is lovely and i want to see the universe in this beauty, only. Already made it to Rohini and the ship works like a clock! :)

Right now my Python is set up as a multi-roll ship because I can’t afford more than one Python. I fiddled with Python builds and it look like I could get about 35ly jump range (max just over 40) with all the long term exploration goodies. I might be able to get a couple or more ly with more engineering of modules.

I’m curious what your jump range is on your exploration Python.

My "taxi" python that is not fully fitted for exploration has 40 ly , and it is not even engineered with new upgrades so i bet it could go past 45 ly . imo you could get past 50 ly now with ease

It's about 40ly, but i keep my srv with me all the way, in case i would like a change in scenery. If carefully stripped for a long range travel max jump would be around 43, maybe a tick higher. It could still be engineered a bit further though.
Well, back in the day, i had travelled 5.000 ly away for Palin, i was in my roughly-26ly-jumping AspX that time so 40 is more than sufficient for me.

On the other hand, this kind of range limit (40ly) helped me not to miss unexplored systems on the way as well. I managed to explore around 150 systems -mind you, not planets- for the first time, and counting. Well, that's what edsm says :)
