Spring dlc Speculation 2023

If a Children's Zoo Pack were to become a thing, I think these would be my choices for the animal list.

1. African dwarf goat
The only domestic breed of the four habitat species, but this is the most common domestic animal in zoos and is regularly kept in either walkthrough enclosures or ones that allow close access to visitors. They can also be kept with wild African herbivores, including giraffes, zebras and ostriches. They are probably the archetypal children's zoo species.

2. Bar-headed goose
Waterfowl are commonly kept in zoos, and many species are suitable to walk among and feed. The bar-headed goose is the most commonly-kept of any exotic goose species, kept in all manner of different enclosures from walkthroughs and mixed enclosures to ornamental ponds, fountains and moats, are attractive and sociable birds and are also pretty friendly as far as geese go.

3. Black-capped squirrel monkey
Because squirrel monkeys are such active and curious animals, they are often kept in more interactive settings such as walkthrough enclosures and children's zoos (like the new one in San Diego). Unlike the smaller marmosets and tamarins, which live in small groups based around a single breeding pair, the squirrel monkeys live in large groups (up to 100 individuals) with many males and females, so I think they are the ideal small monkey option.

4. European rabbit
An Endangered species native to southwest Europe, this is the ancestor of all domestic rabbits. I would have the wild rabbit in-game, as they would be able to fit into a children's zoo setting but are not limited to it, so would also fit into a European wildlife exhibit or even an Australian exhibit (as Zurich Zoo has done/plans to do). Although most wild rabbits are brown, they do naturally come in a variety of colour morphs including albino, black and ginger, so these colours could be selected for in a children's zoo.

5. Western honeybee
The exhibit species is a semi-domesticated insect, commonly kept in zoos around the world. As well as matching with the farming theme that often occurs with children's zoos, they could be kept nearby to the butterflies or in any Eurasian or African exhibit. I would have the bees be displayed in a naturalistic display based on a hollow tree (like the bee exhibit at Vienna Zoo, pictured below), with a special feature being that the bees have an access tube in one wall of the exhibit, so a visitor path cannot go right up against this wall.

With that, there would be a species from Africa, Asia, South America, Europe and a more general Old World species. None of them would feel out of place if displayed away from a children's zoo, but would make the construction of one much more viable.
I really like this pack idea, it brings home the children's zoo vibes while keeping it original and interesting as well as including very well-needed species to the game. Being a piece pack would also be a great way of implementing playgrounds as well, although I'd maybe prefer it as an Animal Pack.

I agree with the animal pack, there is just too many animals to be considered in a children's zoo. Want a barn? You can build that. Want a modern fancy children's zoo? Yeah you can build that already. The only thing we need is unique feeders like hay bales and guest feeding/touching interactions not a several hundred pieces that we already have in game

As a more serious take, i honestly really like the general idear of a half domestic half exotic children zoo pack, as it could combine some of the most needed animals in a thight package, most notably domestics and monkeys.
However i dont agree on just 2 more domestics for the game as they still are really needed, so something id really love to see would be 2 more sprinkled into other packs, most notably the shetland pony for an island pack and the domestic yak/scottish highland cattle for a highlands pack.
If we get those, a children zoo pack with lets say african dwarf goat, squirrel monkey, guinea pigs, the barheaded goose and budgies and maybe a dromedary and/or domestic donkey in a drylands pack, id be quite allright with our domestic representation while an actual petting zoo pack could still be easily done if support gets continued.
Like yeah a mallard, kuneku pig, domestic rabbit and zebu + a cannary or something would still be quite the dope domestics pack, cause while some people pretend domestics to be boring and unnessecary, there are quite alot of cool and different once out there that all have their arguments for joining the game

I recently watched a video of a tour around the children zoo area of San Diego Zoo and it changed my mind about a potential children's zoo pack. I am not very interested in getting cows, pigs, chicken and alike, but now I that I've seen what other kind of animals are housed in children's zoo areas I wouldn't mind something like this:

Maybe I would save the dromedary for a desert pack and replace it with European mouflons or African pigmy goats.
This is a bit of a tough one for me because, yes, I really want to see all of the "mundane" children's zoo species you posted, but I also really do want a small handful of domestics as well. I think my ideal solution would be to save the dromedary for a desert pack as you mentioned, then add a Nigerian dwarf goat, Patagonian mara, donkey or zebu, and some sort of waterfowl for an animal pack.

Petting zoos and children's zoos are similar and often overlapping concepts, but they aren't strictly the same thing. Petting zoos typically feature domestic and barnyard species, largely livestock. Children's zoos are a bit more diverse, but I've seen them focus on relatively "mundane" or smaller species like maras, porcupines, prairie dogs, lemurs, wallabies, small New World monkeys, and raccoons. Sometimes they'll double as a place to teach kids about local species, so I've seen them with black bears, red wolves, beavers, that sort of thing (obviously ymmv with the exact species in that case). And yeah, the two concepts often go hand in hand, which is in my eyes the best thing that could happen for Planet Zoo: a pack that gives us a handful of domestics (goat, donkey, maybe a pig or cattle?), and a handful of diverse "filler" animals (mara, a monkey, stork, porcupine).

I don't think anyone's actually advocating for petting porcupines, lol.

Since there are soo many to choose, I suggest the basics, to easier to mod in the future.

1) big white pig
2) Milk Cow - milk for extra
3) goat - milk for extra
4) Chicken
5) Duck
6) Horse - pulling cart for extra
7) Sheep -sell wool for extra
8) bee - sell honey for extra

Everyone's welcome to think as they like, but I cannot understand why having a Porcupine as a petting zoo animal would be a good idea. This has already been discussed and should be an obvious "no".
I'm not thinking of them as a petting zoo pack, just animals that would fit in the setting of exhibits dedicated to children. Aka simple but curious animals, something giving the vibes the Drusillas Park in the UK could give.

Domestic animals pack - preferably for 2024:

1. Yak
2. Dromadary
3. Konik horse
4. Alpaca
5. African goat
6. Poitou donkey
7. Scottish cattle

WE: Poultry

I wasn't talking about a petting zoo, but something like this in London zoo, for example: https://www.zsl.org/zsl-london-zoo/exhibits/animal-adventure

Thanks, that makes more sense for sure. Porcupines are really interesting and cute. And the noises are just absolutely next level adorable.

I think such a pack would either need to be a scenery pack or come with a significant update to bring playgrounds/merry-go-round to our children's areas (I think a Merry-go-round would be a fantastic update item, especially if we were able to "customize" it by selecting animal sets which unlock based on with dlc you've purchased... but this is probably too ambitious for a free update).

Anyway, on the chance it were animal pack, I would hope to see -

1. Nigerian dwarf goat
2. Donkey
3. Some kind of duck or goose.
4. Some kind of small South American monkey
5. Some kind of porcupine
6. Red River Hog
7-8 Two exhibit species. Children's Zoo often have a focus on small animals, so there a ton of good options, especially with the possibility of a WE filled with clone parrots. Maybe clone parrots and a large walking stick?
